1 WHAT S NEW IN CHECKPOINT Improved Export to MS Excel If you use a version of Microsoft Excel that is newer than 2007, you will see a much-improved display when exporting chart results from Checkpoint and viewing or working with them in Excel. The improved display makes it easier to customize, filter and manipulate chart results to meet your needs while in Excel. Screenshots: BEFORE Chart descriptions (column A in this example) were condensed into a single narrow cell and difficult to read.

2 AFTER Chart descriptions now span the width of the chart and are easy to scan or read. BEFORE Chart results that included numerous topics and/or jurisdictions were not properly formatted throughout the entire chart. 2

3 AFTER All the information in the chart is properly displayed in consistently formatted cells, no matter the length of the chart. To take advantage of this improved display, select MS Excel 2007 and later from the list of options in the Export popup window. If you use a version of MS Excel that is older than 2007, or if you prefer the previous display, you may continue to export the way you previously did using the MS Excel option. 3

4 Upon clicking the Export button, you will need to click Yes to accept the pop-up warning message issued by Excel. 4

5 New Pinpoint Linking from Checkpoint to e-form RS All Forms to use references that exist in the Federal Tax Coordinator Analysis and USTR Explanations have now been tagged to link to the appropriate form or schedule in e-form RS. The links are accessible if you have a Checkpoint subscription that includes the Federal Tax Coordinator and/or United States Tax Reporter, plus e-form RS. The pinpoint links enable you to turn answers into action and go further in your workflow using Checkpoint. Screenshots: When you click on the linked reference to a Form, and when Checkpoint finds a match in e-form RS, a pop-up window appears asking you whether you would like to open the Form in e-form RS. The link will always take you to the most current and final form available in e-form RS at the time you click on the link. The Forms to use reference will be a blue link if your subscription includes e-form RS or plain text if it does not. 5

6 Clicking the OPEN IN E-FORM RS button launches the e-form RS Pass Thru screen. Click the Continue button to proceed directly to the appropriate Form in e-form RS. Links will always take you to the most current version of a Form that is available in e-form RS at the time you click the link from Checkpoint. 6

7 For annually updated forms corresponding to a specific tax year, the pop-up window may occasionally (depending on the time of year) also provide information about the status of an upcoming form. This will typically occur late in the year when the major annual update of e-form RS is close to releasing. e-form RS only includes final forms that have been released by an appropriate taxing authority. e-form RS does not include drafts of Forms. Once the final version of a Form has been released by the taxing authority, it must be programmed in e-form RS and then sent to the taxing authority for review and approval. This process can take several weeks or longer depending on the Form and taxing authority. 7

8 Occasionally a Form reference that appears as a link will no longer be accessible because the Form has been obsoleted or replaced by a new Form as determined by the appropriate taxing authority. The screen shot below is a hypothetical example. 8
