1 M&Ms Spreadsheet Chart You will create a spreadsheet using Microsoft Excel to record M&Ms the occurrences of colors in a bag of. You will use data from other students in your class to calculate an average M&Ms as a chart. number of each color of Renée Cole 2017
2 To Begin: View your team by looking at the Team Numbers on your computer number card (T1, job # are listed on each card) Each person has a job # Job #1 pick up one bag of M&Ms for each person on your team Job #2 enters the data on the class Google Data Sheet Job #3 adds your Team color counts on a sheet of paper Job #4 throws away trash Each person opens their own bag and carefully pours out the M&Ms Each person counts the number of each color on a sheet of paper (You may eat the M&Ms after counting and recording, but please NO CHOCOLATE ON THE COMPUTERS!)
3 Individual Work: Open Excel 2013 Save the workbook as (your initials)chart in your SPREADSHEET folder Add your heading in the LEFT Header section Add a TITLE in the CENTER Header section Go to INSERT>TEXT>HEADER/FOOTER select Footer (look at the bottom) Add Team member s names in the RIGHT section of the FOOTER
4 Click A1 and Type in the word COLORS Starting in A2, Type the colors of the M&Ms in column A Click B1 and Type Team 1 Continue in row 1 with the Teams (C1, D1, etc.) In the cell beside the last Team, Type AVERAGE Insert a row above A1 (RIGHT CLICK>INSERT) Click in A1 and Type M&Ms Chart Select A1 through THE CELL ABOVE the word AVERAGE Press the MERGE AND CENTER BUTTON Save changes
5 Add all colors, Teams, and the word Average Right click Empty row
6 Merge & Center Highlight the cells to be merged Now all cells merged
7 Working with the Numbers: Enter all of the totals for each color and Team Click in the cell on column A after the last color and Type the word TOTAL Select row 2 and CENTER the text Select all of the totals in column B including the empty cell for the TOTAL row Click the AUTOSUM button Repeat for the entire row
8 Decrease Decimals AUTOSUM Highlight all cells and the empty cell Now all have a grand total for each Team
9 Select the numbers in ROW 3 for find the AVERAGE Select the numbers HOME>AUTOSUM BUTTON arrom>average Select each average and use the HOME>DECREASE THE DECIMALS button to make each number a whole number
10 Select all the cells with numbers and CENTER Change the top margin to 1.5 Change the font style and size for all cells Resize the columns/rows as needed Change the font color for all cells Change the fill color for all cells Select the cells and Add borders (HOME>BORDERS) Be creative!!! Check your spreadsheet in PRINT PREVIEW
11 Now add the averages for the colors by highlighting the column>autosum>average AUTOSUM>AVERAGE Select all cells for average
12 This is what your spreadsheet should look like but not the same colors and fonts Can you see each column? Where is the average?
13 Change the orientation of the page to landscape Center your table horizontally PRINT PREVIEW Now your spreadsheet looks like this!
14 Create a Chart: Select the names of colors Hold down the CTRL key and the averages (NOT THE TOTALS) Go to INSERT>BAR CHART>Select one Select the chart then go to DESIGN>ADD CHART ELEMENTS>CHART TITLE>to add title the chart M&Ms Chart Select the chart then go to DESIGN>ADD CHART ELEMENTS>AXIS TITLES>Name the Primary Horizontal axis>colors of M&Ms Select the chart then go to DESIGN>ADD CHART ELEMENTS>AXIS TITLES>Name the Primary Vertical axis># of M&Ms
15 Select EACH of the cells for the COLORS and Hold down CTRL to select the AVERAGES

17 Now your spreadsheet should look like this
18 Move the chart below the spreadsheet data just like you move any other object Select the column for RED (Make sure you only select the red by double clicking USE THE FILL paint bucket TO COLOR THE COLUMN) Choose RED as the color for the column Repeat these steps for each color of the chart Change the background of the chart FORMAT>SHAPE FILLS DO NOT PRINT Show me your work!
