1 Acer Aspire 5600U Administration Multiple Point Installation Process The following are the installation process of setting up an Acer Aspire 5600U Model PC used for administrators in central office. Please read carefully as the instructions are explained thoroughly. Step by Step Process Acer Aspire 5600U (Windows 8) START UP PROCESS 1. Unpack and power on PC 2. Set Time zone and Region : Central time zone 3. Agree to terms and regulations 4. Set up PC name: User(FirstName) - PC 5. Connect to Wi-Fi if available a. STET- 12stet12 b. Turn on Sharing Services 6. Settings a. Customize i. Windows Update 1. Do Not Set Up Automatic Updates ii. Smart Screen 1. Enable (On) iii. Microsoft Notification 1. Disable(Off) iv. Check for Solutions 1. Enable(On) 7. Sign in to PC a. STET (User Account) i. Password : stet2020 ii. Hint : Default 8. Welcome to Windows 8 Tutorial a. Wait for a minute while it installs USER ACCOUNTS Create user accounts for administrators and STET log in. In this scenario since we logged in at the beginning as STET we have to create an account for the administrator only. 1. Create User log in a. Go to Control Panel>Manage Users i. Create without Signing in to Microsoft Account(Local Account) ii. Make account Administrator Privileges iii. Change Picture to Pre determined picture located in the win8.zip folder iv. 2 POWER SETTING This is a very important step and can be found under the Control Panel > Power Settings 1. Change when to turn off Display Settings to a. 3hr - Turn off Display b. 4hr - Sleep UNINSTALL Uninstall the following programs using the uninstall feature located in control panel. 1. McAfee Antivirus a. Full Uninstall 2. Norton Online Backup 3. Spotify 4. Acer Cloud Portal 5. Acer Remote Software a. Click on the bottom, right-hand corner white triangle to view running apps b. Rollover the Acer Remote Icon and right-click to Exit the app c. Then go to the control panel to uninstall Acer Remote, which only takes a second d. Reboot the Acer PC 6. Delete Microsoft Office 2013 Icon from the Start Menu only 7. Disable Arc Server a. Press Alt+Ctrl+Del and enter Task manager b. Click show more settings c. Go to the Startup Tab d. Disable Arc Server INSTALL The following installation files would be found on the web, make sure to not install additional software included within these programs (example: google toolbar in adobe reader installation). 1. IOBIT Start Menu Tool a. Go to Horizon.ms>downloads>Software>Win8Apps>Win8Start(New).exe b. Download and install executable file i. When prompted uncheck install advance system care c. Once installed apply the following settings i. Personalize>Start Button>Choose Classic 2. Java a. Go to > Click on free java download 1. 3 1. Follow Prompted Instructions, remember to not install add on software 4. Adobe Shockwave Player a. Go to > Downloads > Shockwave Player 1. Follow Prompted Instructions, remember to not install add on software 5. Adobe Flash Player : Mozilla Firefox USB INSTALLS a. Using Mozilla Firefox Browser, Go to > Downloads > Flash Player 1. Follow Prompted Instructions, remember to not install add on software Ask IT Supervisor for USB containing up to date installation files needed for PC set up. Copy the files to the desktop and keep track of your installations. Remember more than likely you will be working on multiple PC's so make sure to keep track of your work. (Sticky Notes, Post it, etc...) 1. Install Microsoft Office 2007 a. Use the First(top) license included in the installation files b. Customize i. MSOFFICE 1. Run all from my computer c. After installation Finishes i. Run Microsoft Word Accept Default Setting for first time use 2. *note : Accepting this will trigger windows to change windows update options to automatic download and installation ii. Close Microsoft Word 2007 iii. Change windows automatic updates 1. Go to Control Panel > System & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates but let me choose when to install iv. Send shortcuts of the following programs to the desktop 1. Microsoft Excel Microsoft Word Microsoft PowerPoint Microsoft Publisher 2007 a. Rename each Icon erasing the Microsoft in front of each program i. example : Excel Mozilla Firefox a. When prompted select the custom installation i. 4 ii. Do not import configuration from other browsers 3. Bullzip PDF Creator a. Follow the Default installation settings 4. Realtime Media Player a. Do not install Google Toolbar INTERNET BROWSERS 1. Internet Explorer a. Set stet.co as homepage b. Add Menu Bar c. Add Status Bar d. Disable automatic updates i. Help>About> Uncheck Automatic Updates e. Make Window about 60% on Desktop i. Open several windows ctrl + n and then close them to save size setting f. Disable Pop-Up Blocker i. Internet Options >Privacy>Uncheck Turn off Pop-Up Blocker g. Send 32-bit Internet Explorer shortcut from the Start Menu to Desktop 2. Mozilla Firefox a. Set TxEIS as homepage i. grab from stet.co>staff>txeis link 1. copy shortcut>paste to homepage b. Add Menu Bar c. Add Status Bar d. Disable Pop-Up Blocker i. Settings>Content>Uncheck Pop-Up Blocker setting e. Rename Icon on Desktop to: Firefox [TxEIS] DESKTOP The following procedures should be applied to every user account created. 1. Create new folder and name it Unused Icons a. Drag all unused icons into this folder i. Pre-installed Programs, etc. 2. Change the wallpaper a. Download Win-8-Icons.zip from horizon.ms > Downloads > Software > Win8Apps > Win- 8-Icons.Zip b. Save to Desktop c. Unzip folder on the Desktop d. Change wallpaper according to user i. Black Win 8 (STET) ii. Win 15 (User) e. Once finished delete the.zip file f. 5 i. Libraries > Documents > Public Documents 3. Right click on Desktop and choose Personalize Option a. Click on Show Desktop Icons Option on top left corner i. Checkmark the following 1. My Computer 2. User Docs b. Change Mouse Pointer i. Choose the following from the drop down menu 1. Windows Inverted Extra Large WINDOWS UPDATE This process may be repeated several times in order to properly update a PC. These Acer PC approximately took 6 to 7 updates in order to be fully up to date. 1. Go to Control Panel a. Click on System and Security Link i. Go to Windows Update 1. Check for Updates a. Download and Install as Necessary 2. After all updates seemed to be done on the Classic Windows Interface go into metro mode and check updates within the Microsoft store, should be prompted to download update for Windows 8.1. a. Download and Install i. During Installation make sure to Disable automatic updates ii. Make sure not to sign in with Microsoft account, choose local computer option. PERSONALIZED Install all of the following devices; some individuals might have different devices than other make sure to go by the following check list. 1. Network Printer a. Main Network Printer (Toshiba) b. Back-Up Network Printer 2. Local Printer/Scanner Bundle 3. Scan Folder 4. Other Peripheral Devices 5. Migrate Old data files to new PC a. Desktop b. Documents c.
