1 How to Set Up Windows 7 If the computer name is needed, log on as STLP on the domain and right click Computer and click properties. On 7/Vista, the name is found under the Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings. On XP, the name is found under the Computer name tab. Use the 32-bit Windows 7 CD unless the computer is CHS lab - use 64-bit. Hit F12 as you are turning on the computer. Insert the CD and select the option that has CD- ROM included and press enter. Press any key to continue. It will now say Windows is loading files. Wait for the next screen to pop up and click on Install Now. Language to install: English, Time and currency format: English (United States), Keyboard or input method: US Click next and install now. Check the I accept the license terms and click next.

2 Choose the Custom (advanced) as the type of installation. Click the Drive options (advanced) and delete all partitions and there should be one left after you do so. Click next afterward. Windows will initiate the installation process. It may restart several times during the process. When the installation is complete, make sure the computer boots from the hard drive, not the CD. The computer will prompt for a user and computer name. Set the username as: STLP. The computer name will be either be a newly assigned or reused one. See the first step if there was not a name assigned and the name needs to be same. The password for the computer is 999plts. Put 999 as the password hint. When the computer asks protect and improve Windows automatically, choose the option: Ask me later. Set the time zone as Eastern, and set the time and date if needed.

3 Set the internet as a work network. After Windows is set up, the computer will boot to the desktop. Right click > Personalize > Screen saver > Change power settings Choose balanced and Change plan settings. Hard disk > Turn off hard disk after: 0, Sleep > Sleep after: 0, Hibernate after: 0, Power buttons and lid > Power button action : Shutdown, Display > Turn off display after: 0 Click apply, then OK. Close all other windows until the window to change the Screen saver is left. Change the screen saver to Bubbles and set it to 10 minutes, then apply and OK. Click on the start button on the bottom-left corner and search gpedit.msc. User configuration > Windows settings > IE maintenance > Connection > Proxy settings

4 Check Enable proxy settings and enter this as the proxy in the HTTP bar: proxy.cville.kyschools.us and the port as: Check Use the same proxy server for all addresses. Click apply, OK, and close all windows. Start > Computer (Right-click) > Properties > Change settings > Change Select the Domain bullet and put this in the bar: campbellsville.ketsds.net and click OK. If a window pops up, choose yes if non-standard message. A window will pop up to ask for credentials. Use the STLP username and password from the domain. If it worked, a window pops up and says, Welcome to the cville.ketsds.net domain. Click OK, close, and Restart now. The computer restarts and it goes back to the logon screen. Use the same password: 999plts. Start > Control Panel > Category - Small icons > Administrator tools > Computer management > Local users and groups > Groups > Administrators Click add and another window pops up ask for credentials again. Use the STLP username and password from the domain. Add the user DIST support admins and click OK. Repeat the same steps to

5 add the users stlp and update. If it is a teachers computer, the user is the last name of the teacher. Apply and OK and close all windows. Log off and log back on using the STLP username and password from the domain. Right-click > Personalize > Desktop icons. Click on all of them and then click apply and OK. Computer (right-click) > Properties > Device Manager. If there is any drivers missing, (indicated by a! ) see Gamini or Parker for more information. Test Internet Explorer to see if the internet works. If it does, install Adobe Reader, Flash Player, Java, and Internet Explorer 9. Prevent any installation of any addons (Chrome, toolbars) by making sure to uncheck anything beforehand. Installing Adobe Reader, Flash Player Go to Scroll down until Adobe Reader is shown. Click on it, make sure the option to install Google Chrome is unchecked, and press install now. Repeat the process for Abobe Flash Player. Installing Java

6 Go to Click on Install Java and then I have read and accepted the terms and agreements. Whenever it asks to install the Ask toolbar, uncheck all and click next. After it is installed, Go to Control Panel > Java. In the Update tab, uncheck Check for updates automatically and click Do not check. Installing Internet Explorer 9 Go to and search internet explorer 9 download. Pick a result that has microsoft in their website. If it wants to try to download IE 10, still choose the option to download IE 9. After it is installed, reset the computer and log back in with STLP username and password from the domain. Install Microsoft Office 32-bit unless the computer is CHS lab - use 64-bit Start > Devices and printers > Add printer > Create a new port > Local TCP/IP port Enter IP address and press next. When the printer is found, choose the option to not share this printer and finish.
