2 What to Backup Determine what data on your computer you want to back up. Suggestions are: Documents Photos Music files files Miscellaneous programs that have data files Miscellaneous programs (software)

3 Getting Started with Livedrive Establish an account by ing Michael Young a request with the following information: Your first name and last name Your address A password or a generic will be supplied which you can change later Mike will verify that your membership is current and then provide you with a Livedrive account

7 Account Settings Software Download When you download the Livedrive backup software it will place a icon on your desktop. Click on this icon to open Livedrive so you can customize your backup.

8 Using the Desktop Settings-Account An an Manage Users to add or delete an account Change Details to customize the details of your account and you can stop and restart Livedrive on this screen (note if Livedrive isn t running, click on the message Livedrive is not running (Click her to start Livedrive)

9 Using the Desktop Settings-Bandwidth Select your connection speed or you can select the custom option and set your upload and download bandwidths. Make sure the Encrypt all file transfer between Livedrive and your PC is checked.

10 Using the Desktop Settings-Services Click on Manage Backup Settings. The two tabs within the Manage Backup settings are the most important places to customize your Livedrive backup.

11 Using the Desktop Settings-Services (cont) Folders select the drive and folders that you want to backup (green). Note - if you have more than one user, then you need to select each user that you want to backup.

12 Using the Desktop Settings-Services (cont) Settings change how Livedrive is to backup your data (real time or a specified time). Set files to be excluded by selecting their file extension.

13 Using the Desktop Settings - Advanced Check and repair Livedrive if you have noted a problem and change proxy settings.

14 Using the Desktop Settings - Updates Check for updates to your Livedrive software.

15 Livedrive s Web Site Log onto to Home recently uploaded files, how many GB you have uploaded and your account limit which is unlimited.

16 Livedrive s Web Site - Backup Backup displays your computer name which includes your folders and individual files and is used to restore data. * Note - Briefcase isn t available as part of the free backup through CPCUG.

17 Livedrive s Web Site Account Settings Your Account displays your account type and your backup information.

18 Livedrive s Web Site Account Settings (cont.) Your Details Displays your name and address. You can also change your password on this screen. If you want to close your account use this screen.

19 Livedrive s Web Site - Account Settings (cont.) Plugins Zoho is a cloud office suite, FotoFlexer is for imaging editing, Pixir is photo editing and Music Browser gives you the ability to browse music file various ways.

20 Livedrive s Web Site - Help Service Statue displays any scheduled maintenance for Livedrive. Livedrive Blog contains information about Livedrive blogs. Quick Start contains an abbreviated guide.

21 Run Your Computer Backup Your initial backup will be very time consuming and it could take several days or a week depending upon the number of files and the speed of your internet connection. Your computer MUST be on in order for you to upload your files to Livedrive - can t be in sleep or hibernate mode.

22 Run Your Computer Backup (cont.) The following steps will keep your computer on and running while doing the initial Livedrive backup (Windows 7): Go into control panel Change the screen saver setting Change the minutes to a very high number (ex. 9,999 = 6.9 days) When the backup is complete, change the setting back to their original setting

23 Restoring Your Data Restoring a single file is a three step process. Step 1 is to go to Livedrive s web site and open the Backup tab. Double click on your PC name and then step down to the file you want to restore.

24 Restoring Your Data (cont.) Step 2 is to go to the folder where the individual document is stored and double click on the folder that contains the file. Your folder and files will be under the same folder as on your PC.

25 Restoring Your Data (cont.) Step 3 is to find the individual file and right click and a drop down is displayed and select download. Follow the screens as to what you want to do (save, save as, save and open).

26 Restoring Your Data (cont.) Restoring a large file or large numbers of files you need to download the Restore Client under the Account Settings tab and Software Downloads. This will place a Livedrive Restore program icon in your start menu.

28 Restoring Your Data (cont.) When you start Livedrive Restore you will be asked to provide your address and password this is the same one that you use to logon on to Livedrive s web site.

29 Restoring Your Data (cont.) The screen will contain the folders that you have on Livedrive. You will need to step down through the folders and/or files as needed to select and restore your data.

30 Restoring Your Data (cont.) If you want to download the entire folder then right click on the folder and a small menu appears that has restore highlighted. Click on this to populate the Restore a Folder Menu. Restoring may take some time depending upon the size of the folder.

31 Tips Livedrive will mirror your PC as to where the files are located Follow the path of the files on your computer and use the same path on Livedrive For example - this is the same for MS Outlook files You may have to search the internet to give you a start as to where to find the Outlook address book and data files Your personal computer may have some deviations from what is stated on the internet Photos take much longer to upload and download therefore if you have lots of photos expect your initial backup to be very time consuming.

32 Summary Livedrive is easy to use and self-explanatory Initial backup may take day(s) depending upon the amount of your data and your internet upload speed After the initial backup everything is quick, automatic and transparent Your data will be safe and secure
