5 MCS Windows App-V5 Needed to deploy Office Will provide per-user licensing. Office 2013 Will replace Office 2007 during summer vacation Sites can either have 2010 or 2013 (not concurrently on same PC). Rollout in June with summer vac to test and update course notes. Outlook 2010 will replace Outlook 2007 (no Outlook 2013). Helen will contact sites re license upgrades if required. Will meet with various course givers to identify a common config. All free multi-lingual LIPs, Screen TIPs and Proofing Tools. 64 bit (not 32 bit).

9 MCS Linux Brand new build constructed and shipped over the summer. Upgraded base distribution from Ubuntu to Many, many software updates from the base distribution Updated CIFS driver to incorporate stability bug-fixes. Lots of extra software packaged and shipped on top. More than 4000 packages shipped as standard. Updated artwork. Far fewer late-breaking software requests thank you!

11 MCS Printing & DS - Print MPS Growth: 19 MFDs + 3 trials 4 Printers + 1 trial 1 Common Balance Wherever possible please provide as much notice as possible for integration/commissioning works. Managed Print Totals: 35 Departments, 26 Colleges using Managed Print 34 Departments, 18 Colleges participating in Common Balance Scheme 83 MFDs 184 Printers Managed Print Trials: 5 Institutions actively participating in trials.

12 MCS Printing & DS - Print Supporting Visitors: Uptake available to early adopters Awaiting release of new DMS for full visitor support. Supporting Linux: Release to early adopters delayed due to technical issues - PaperCut incorrectly reporting colour detection when using Evince document viewer for Linux. Engaged and working with PaperCut for resolution ASAP Kelvin Morgan will be available during refreshments for any questions or MFD demonstration.

16 DMS FAQs Can I populate each home directory with a copy of a file tree we point to on the filestore? Will be included (account management) Can I generate random passwords for each account when it is set and generate a PDF with username/passwords written down? Will be included (visitor ID management) Can I set a date and time when the visitor accounts are automatically reset and passwords set to unknown random? Will be included (visitor ID management) Will any improvements be made to the Qmonitor displays including better\reliable\easier access for local admin? All Qmonitor display (which is accessible via the DMS), is out of scope of the current work.

17 DMS FAQs. It would be good if there was a facility to remote boot machines on demand for updates? The current power saving mechanism would work for this (set a power saving period and use Wake-On-LAN at the end of it). Can I have a button that forces my MCS machine to boot into Linux, or better the ability to schedule MCS machine to boot into Linux? Not included in this phase further DS liaison to include this. Can usage logs be automatically generated e.g. Once a term and once a year so that when I log into the MCS Usage Statistics - termly usage is already there and a yearly usage is already there? This will be implemented (but maybe not in phase 1)

18 and some more DMS FAQs Will the new DMS have a responsive design to the new site, I end up doing a lot of admin when I only have a mobile device? I realise that this may be hard if you are restricted to templates The new interface framework allows for responsive design, but it may not be fully available in phase 1. A nice thing to have would be the list, I normally bug Martyn for, of all the machines (with IP & MAC) we have connected to the DS. This can now be included as we now have an improved internal MCS database.
