Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Presentation

Windows 10 Creators Update Feature Guide The second big update to Windows 10 has landed. Going by the name of Creators Update Fall Edition, this refresh of the operating system brings with it a whole range of new features.

There's a lot of improvements coming with the Fall Creators Update that not everyone may be aware of. So, I thought it'd be a good idea to throw together a list of all the changes that are being introduced with the Fall Creators Update! Also if I had a slide for every feature so far I have found you would be looking at a slide show of 132 slides. So a lot of the features are given as a line item so you can go to the club web site where this presentation will be posted and Google the PowerPoint presentation line items for further information I have highlighted some line items which I feel need some explanation

Windows Shell The Windows Shell is the main part of Windows that people interact with everyday. It's the Start menu, the Action Center, the Taskbar, and File Explorer. So here's all the noteworthy changes showing up in those locations.

Resizing Start horizontally is now smoother. You can now resize Start diagonally. Start now uses Acrylic backdrop. Scrollbars will now shrink away when cursor isn't near them. Added new context menu icons in Start. New Action Center UI featuring Fluent Design. Action Center now shares the same Acrylic backdrop as Start. Toast notifications now float in the bottom right corner. Tweaked design for toast notifications. Toast notifications now feature an arrow instead of an X to dismiss. There is now a My People Hub icon on the taskbar. You can now pin up to three contacts to the taskbar. Pinned contacts can send you "pops" that appear as animated emoji on your desktop. My People Hub gives you quick access to all your contacts and associated communication apps. You can now share with contacts directly from the Share UI Taskbar Battery icon has new fly out with a slider for Power Throttling. You can now enable Spatial Sound directly from the Volume icon context menu in the taskbar. You can now see files saved in the cloud via OneDrive with "On-Demand Sync" in File Explorer. You can now share files via the Share option in the context menu.

One Drive Files On-Demand Always available files Locally available files Online-only files The most eagerly anticipated change for those who use Microsoft's OneDrive cloud storage is 'Files On-Demand'. This feature will let users see all their files stored on OneDrive from within Windows 10's File Explorer, without having to first download these files. Users will be able to see all their files, whether they are stored locally, are only on OneDrive, or stored on both. They can choose to download OneDrive files and folders to the device and to keep their local drive in sync with OneDrive. Files and folders stored solely on OneDrive will be tagged with a cloud icon.

Microsoft Edge Microsoft continues to improve Edge in many ways. With this release, Edge now has better PDF and EPUB support, a new read aloud feature, an updated favorites system and a load of under the hood improvements for stability.

General PDF reading improvements. You can now pin websites to the taskbar just like with Internet Explorer 11. General EPUB improvements. You can now annotate EPUB documents. Minor UI improvements. Reading progress is now synced across devices. You can now save favorites into a different location directly from the favorites UI. You can now edit the URL of an already saved favorite. Share UI now shows up in the top right of the window. Tabs that are no longer active will show a semi-transparent icon. Edge now features a read aloud mode that reads text for you on a webpage, PDF or EPUB document.. Under the hood improvements. Copy and paste is now more reliable. Edge now shows Acrylic in its title bar. Pressing F3 when using Find a Page will now go to the next result. Shift F3 will go to the previous result. Updated editable fields in PDFs to now have a subtle color to help indicate that they're editable.

Input Improvements Input improvements include the way users interact with Windows, whether that be with a mouse or keyboard, touch screen, or pen! New Emoji Panel (accessed with WIN+.) Support for Emoji 5.0. Updated Touch Keyboard with Shape Writing and one handed mode. Improvements to handwriting panel. You can now scroll lists and web pages with a pen.

Settings Here's a list of all the noteworthy new settings coming in the Fall Creators Update.

About area has been redesigned with relevant information about system health. Storage Sense can now automatically delete files in your downloaded folder after 30 days. Storage Sense can now delete the previous version of Windows once an upgrade has taken place. Remote Desktop is now in the Settings app. A new sidebar is present with contextual help tips and video. A new "Video Playback" option has been added with HDR and other video options. A new Game Monitor option is present. Updates now have individual progress indicators when downloading and installing. New update activity monitor that shows statistics on downloads of updates for the month. Cortana now has its own area in Settings. Slight changes to the order of Settings categories. Delivery Optimization improvements You can now track update download usage There is a new option for linking an Android or iphone device to your Windows 10 PC New options for controlling your PC with your eyes using third party hardware from Tobii.

And of course General Improvements Here's a list of some of the changes that don't belong to any of the categories shown. These changes are just as important as all the others. Windows is now smart enough to throttle inactive programs. Windows can now adjust Win32 programs DPI without needing to logout. Android users can now see missed call notifications on the desktop when Cortana is synced on their PC and phone. Windows 10 now runs on ARM64 architecture. Cortana now supports dedicated Speaker Devices. Minor elements of the Fluent Design System are present in some areas of the OS. The Photos app now has a new Story Remix area that allows you to create quick video clips. You can now recover your Microsoft Account password directly from the lock screen. Battery life improvements Windows 10 Security enhancements with Windows Defender, Exploit Guard and more. Translucent UI elements now have Acrylic noise. The Mixed Reality Portal icon has been updated.

Cortana can now lock, sign out, shut down and restart your PC with voice commands. Windows can now automatically re-setup your account after feature-update is installed, automatically opening apps and more. The Bahnschrift font is now pre-installed. Fixed the issue where USBhub.sys was causing spontaneous reboots due to bugchecks (GSOD). Fixed an issue where your PC might not go to sleep automatically after remoting into it and signing out of the remote session.

5 reasons to use Edge in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update With Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, Microsoft has added a handful of new features and tweaks to its Edge browser. I doubt they will be enough to pry you away from your browser of choice, but the Edge browser continues to trend in the right direction. Here are the five big improvements Microsoft has made to Edge with its most recent Windows update.

Not seen since Windows 8, you can once again pin websites to the taskbar. To do so, click the triple-dot button along the Edge window's right edge and choose Pin this page to the taskbar. You can put your favorite websites on your taskbar for fast access.

True full-screen mode Edge finally has a true, full-screen mode where you lose the browser's menus and tabs at the top. Hit F11 to toggle in and out of full-screen mode or click the triple-dot button and then click the diagonal double-arrow button to the right of the zoom controls. Better integration with your phone Edge promises to let you start an article on your phone and then pick it where you left off on your PC, but you'll need to use a preview version of Edge for ios or Android or the Cortana app for ios or Android to try it out. And you'll need to connect your phone to your PC in the new Phone section of the Settings app, which you'll find on the main page of Settings. I tried it out by installing the Cortana app on my Motorola Nexus 6. I opened a news article and tapped the blue button to continue reading on my PC. It worked seamlessly; as soon as I tapped the button on my phone, a new tab opened on Edge on my PC.

Better bookmarking Click the star button in Edge (or hit Control-D) and you'll see Edge's bookmark menu got a design refresh and better illustrates the folder hierarchy for your favorites, making it quicker and easier to find a folder to plop a new favorite. And on the Favorites hub itself, you'll find two new items on the right-click menu -- Sort by name and Edit URL. The former lets you arrange a list of favorites alphabetically and the latter lets you quickly edit a favorite's URL. Better PDF and ebook reader Microsoft added a few tools to make Edge more capable with PDFs and ebooks for touch screen PCs. With PDFs, you can now click the Add Notes button to the right of the URL bar to ink on the PDF, from signing your name and highlighting lines to adding comments and copying text. It's particularly useful for signing documents -- no longer will you need to add a weird electronic signature or, worse, print, sign and scan a PDF in order to send back a signed copy.

For ebooks, students (and habitual note takers) will rejoice at being able to mark up ebooks as you read them. Just highlight some text and a small menu will appear that lets you highlight the text, underline it, add a comment, copy it or open a Cortana panel along the Edge window's right edge without leaving the page you are on.

So there you have it, all the noteworthy changes In the Fall Creators Update which started in October. Next REDSTONE 4

Windows 10 'Redstone 4 What to expect in Microsoft's 2018 next big update "Redstone 4" is Microsoft's next major update for Windows 10. Here's everything I expect to see show up.

Development Windows 10 Redstone 4 development is now well underway internally at Microsoft, which means it's time for me to start poking around to see if I can find out what Microsoft is planning for its next major release of Windows 10. Here's what I've learned so far.

Release date Microsoft itself has already stated that it plans to release two feature updates to Windows 10 each year, one in March/April and the other in September/October. Considering the next scheduled update is March/April 2018, I m expecting Redstone 4 to be finalized sometime in March 2018 with an official release in the month after.

Features Timeline and Cloud Clipboard File this one under totally obvious, but Microsoft is planning to debut both Timeline and Cloud Clipboard features with Redstone 4. Announced last year, these two features were originally going to show up in the Fall Creators Update, but where cut at the last minute

Timeline is a glorified recent apps screen that shows the user all the apps they've opened on their device and other devices that are signed in with a Microsoft account. You can see apps you've opened through time, open them with a single click that puts you exactly where you left off. It works across Windows 10 PCs, ios and Android. I believe Timeline will be another CShell element, similar to the new swipe keyboard found in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Microsoft will slowly be introducing more CShell elements over time, and Redstone 4 will see that trend continue.

Cloud Clipboard Is a feature that many people are excited about, allowing you to copy text or a document and have that copied item saved to the cloud for pasting on other devices. This will be optional of course, and will work across Windows 10 PC, IOS and also Android.

Fluent Design in the Windows Shell Microsoft announced earlier this its new design language called "Fluent Design System" that will be implemented in Windows over the next several releases. We're already seeing small bits of it show up in the Fall Creators Update, and I'm told Redstone 4 will see Fluent Design show up in the Windows Shell a lot more. Fluent Design.

My People Improvements My People in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update at best looks unfinished, and that's because it is. I'm told My People will be getting some love in Redstone 4, with an updated design that more closely matches what Microsoft unveiled back in October last year. The My People feature in the Fall Creators Update is only there so that developers can start working on integrating their apps with it. Its UI isn't final, so expect to see some more good things happening in the future.

Cortana As always, we're going to see Cortana get smarter with a new release of Windows 10. Abilities such as being able to set a wallpaper, find lyrics, help with shopping and a whole lot more are being worked on for Redstone 4. Microsoft is also working on a new chat-based Cortana UI, however I'm not sure if that will be ready in time for Redstone 4. We shall see.

And more There's a lot more in the works for Redstone 4 from what I'm told, and of course more things are being added to that plan all the time. Expect to see more improvements to Microsoft Edge, new Pen and ink features and improvements; Windows upgrade improvements, and more enterprise related features. Improvements to the Windows Shell is what I'm most excited about with Redstone 4. Fluent Design is going to make Windows 10 look pretty, and hopefully closer resemble that of what Microsoft unveiled in its YouTube concepts video
