2 Overview This document outlines the SPARs enhancements and bug fixes included in Service Pack 3 for the Spire CXP3535 color server v1.0 for Xerox DocuColor 3535 Copier/Printer. The current official version is CXP3535 v1.0 Service Pack 3 includes fixes contained in Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2 Fixed SPARs and Bugs Summary No indication on the DocuColor 3535 user interface, in situation of Finisher Full and Out of paper Problem Description In cases where the Finisher is full and on the same time the printed paper is finished, alert message appears only on the CXP3535 Color Server. 3 Page Duplex Document Stapling. When sending any 3-page duplex and stapled job, the output will not be stapled in the finisher. This only occurs when the job has 3 pages. RGB workflow with "Replace with Device link" burns images. Printing with Transparent setting on Bond paper. Removing PSKill.exe from Spire. PPD text discrepancies. Missing custom paper selection on Imposition. Missing replace waste toner indication. There is an error in the Admin>Network>TCP/IP window when Token Ring is active. Spire version on configuration report 1. "Print grays using K only " results in missing images. 2. First page prints correctly, but the rest of the file prints with a different color. This occurs when you print a page with RGB then a page with LW and then a page with RGB again. 3. VPS drops B&W images when printed. Printing from Tray 5 loaded with Bond, job requested transparency, and print does not stop. The installer of SP1 removes the PSKill.exe file from the Spire CXP3535 color server. Discrepancies between English, other languages and the Job parameters In the Imposition - Trim parameter and the Page Exceptions tab, the custom page size dimension dialog box does not open on the DFE job programming GUI. There is no Attention Required message on the Spire CXP3535 color server when the waste toner is full. When you enable the Token Ring Network Adapter and disable the Ethernet Adapter for the Creo server, within the Spire Application the Ethernet Adapter is still displayed as the active connection. If you check the actual server network preferences, the Token Ring adapter is displayed. This can be very confusing to the operator; they may be unsure that they are connecting using Token Ring. Missing service pack version on configuration report. Page 2 of 17

Text cut from the top of page when printing simplex PPD file of French (or other languages) PS driver has "?" character instead of accented letters Problem Description Novell context browsing causes a GUI error when an alias object is double-clicked in the NDS. During calibration on some occasions, such as when using low qulity paper, the user gets a confusing message indicating low density values. Interleave is not working in LEF orientation with jobs configured using the Job paramenters on the CXP3535. In rare cases the Spire spooler lost connection with the OS spooler and jobs do not arrive in the Print Queue. Test page does not incude the correct Spire version including the SP build. When creating an imposed PDF job while PDF optimization is on, the pages within each booklet are in the wrong order. When imposing a job on a system with inches set as the measurment unit, the system does not insert the Trim Size in the job parameters. The trim size always remains A3. In the Job Parameters window Image Quality tab, the Trapping feature does not have default values. This is only relevant to systems with inches set as the measurment unit. Color Flow Chart file in the sample files folder: on both pages one and three, the subject is wrong (appers as W/CSA,) where it should be W/Device Link on page one and W/CSA on page three. The icon position is misleading and the action of the front and rear direction keys reversed. Some JPEG files have 17-bit instead of 16-bit data in the header. These JPEG files would fail in RIP. After assigning a gradation table to a job, any changes done directly on the gradation table do not effect the job. A Wrong message while activating the Preflight window ("Preflight check report will be recorded in job history "). In several scenarios, the text/images in jobs are cut because it is located close to the page boundaries. When you install a French PostScript printer driver from the CSX3535 all the printing options containing accented letters are displayed with the? character instead of the accented characters (e.g. tête à tête becomes t?te? t?te). VI and Postscript files with EPS images either embedded or as APR with dos header preview, fail in rip Job which contains text/vector elements, painted on white with over print = on, disappearing from printout Black box appears when creating linear blends between two pantone colors on CorelDRAW 11 and Illustrator 10. Previewing a PPML file before RIP converts the file to PDF format, losing the Variable Information format. Adding interleaves from PPD file is not supported. Server crashes while printing and automatic reboots. e-vipp files (files which include both VIPP format and PS format combined) that come from the Atlas Print Shop Mail application fail in RIP When a 1-page simplex or 2-page duplex job is printed through a virtual printer with stapling and the printout is rotated and cut. The option of using a 1-page job (or 2-page duplex) is not blocked from selection on the PPD file. Several constrains between the option to select Specific Paper size, printing method (such as manual duplex) and finisher are not similar between the Job Parameters window and the PPD selectable option. XMPie PPML files with DOS headers fails during the RIP process with Offending Command error. Images form XMPie PPML files are being cut. Trying to import the custom-made ICC profile file generated by the Praxis color profile generator results in an error. When replacing consumables, the process creates additional errors from the DocuColor 3535 (such as Door open or Finisher out of place ), and the current print job is aborted. The Spire CXP3535 color server crashes, and a blue screen appears indicating a driver error. Spire workspace loses all functionality and the current printed job stops in middle of printing. 5 Summary Not-centered PDF2Go file PDF with image + text Quality high, fails to print Images position functionality errors Problem Description In some cases, when exporting an RTP job as PDF2Go, the PDF has an image position shift which does not exist in the original RTP. When printing a job containing blank pages and using the Text/Line Quality option set to high, the job fails during printing with the error "please try to change paper feed direction or set compression to high level from services tab.". 1. The one-side image position shift does not work when printing the job using paper from Tray When you set the Spire CXP3535 color server to work in inches and set the image position shift to a negative shift, the GUI (Graphic user interface) does not work properly. PDF job printing cut Importing Brisque jobs through Hot Folder Wrong message appears on the Spire CXP3535 color server when the Xerox DocuColor 3535 Copier/Printer is not communicating with the Spire CXP3535 color server application. A PDF job containing a non-zero Crop Box value prints with a cropped image. In some cases, when dragging and dropping a Creo Brisque job into a Spire CXP3535 color server hot folder, the job is not identified as a supported job and does not import. In other cases, the job is not cleaned from the Hot Folder after successfully importing. Print Monitor caption indicates on No Communication instead of directing the customer to turn the printer on, or off and on, in order the to establish connection in the following scenarios: 1. The Xerox DocuColor 3535 Copier/Printer is turned off while the Spire CXP3535 color server application is running. 2. The Spire CXP3535 color server application was started while the Xerox DocuColor 3535 Copier/Printer was already turned on. Tray 5 and manual duplex constrains Printer status is not presented correctly on the Web Viewer When Tray 5 was selected in the Job Parameters window, it forced the duplex method to change to manual duplex and the other duplex options are then unavailable. After reselecting tray 1-4, the duplex methods remain unavailable. When the Xerox DocuColor 3535 Copier/Printer registers that it is out of paper, the Xerox DocuColor 3535 Copier/Printer still shows Ready status on the Spire CXP3535 color server. Page 5 of 17

6 Summary Errors in PPML Preview Problem Description Second preview fails on PPML jobs that include reusable elements in global scope. Preview fails on PPML jobs that include DOS Headers. When previewing PPML before the RIPing process, part of the page is cropped. Novell configuration error VPS prints out of page boundaries Missing elements in VPS PS jobs fail to rip Missing information from Configuration Page Hand coded VPS fail to RIP Error on VPS files from Document Sciences application Wrong output tray Alert Message Wrong accounting IOT dead cycle during mixed media printing During Novell configuration, the Spire CXP3535 color server fails to browse through Locality NDS objects. The second side of the VPS job printed in duplex has a shift of approximately 1", which causes printing outside the page boundaries. Missing VI elements in VPS jobs. PostScript files containing EPS images with metafile preview fail to RIP. Configuration page does not include information on the installed patches in the Spire CXP3535 color server. VPS files, containing Hand Coded tags and that are linked to an external PS file to use as a template, fail to RIP. Images disappeared on the print out, and several text rows appeared in the wrong location on the job. When the center tray is full and a job is submitted, the error message on the alert queue says: "...requires Finishing - OCT to resume" instead of "...requires Finishing Center tray to resume". Incorrect accounting result when printing a batch of 200 one page, small jobs of with job batching on. IOT dead cycle after trying to print a mixed media job containing a heavyweight paper from Tray 5. Page 6 of 17

7 Enhancements DB Recovery The Spire CXP3535 color server uses an internal database for information management. Internal database integrity is essential for Spire CXP3535 color server operation. The Spire CXP3535 color server internal database may corrupt in certain circumstances, such as improper system shutdown due to power failure. Whenever the database becomes corrupted, the Spire CXP3535 color server application performs an automatic database recovery on system startup. Database Recovery The Database Recovery dialog box informs you of any errors that are detected in the database. Note: The Database recovery dialog box appears only when errors are detected. If errors were detected, click Recover to repair the database. When the recovery process is complete, the Database Recovery completion message appears. Database Recovery Completion Message Click Start to launch the Spire CXP3535 color server application. Mixed-Color Printing Mode Support The Spire CXP3535 color server supports the DC3535 mixed-color printing mode, i.e. the printer does not cycle down between printing color and b/w pages of the same job. 8 Note: The DC3535 mixed-color printing is disabled when the Job Batching mode is set to Off in the Spire CXP3535 color server. It is recommended to disable the mixed-color printing mode when the vast majority of the printed job is black & white. Calibrations from Tray 5 to maximum size paper. Enable the option for Color Calibration on paper loaded in Tray 5 only for the following paper sizes: 1. SRA3 On a machine running with millimeters set as the unit measurement as the default setting x18 On the Spire CXP3535 color server running with millimeters set as the unit measurement as the default setting. Change in default paper size and orientation Changed the default feeding orientation to LEF (instead of SEF) and the default paper size to A4 (instead of A3). For jobs received with no PPD parameters, the Spire CXP3535 color server will assign LEF feeding orientation to the job. Parsing PDF file info. Added support for PPD comments in PDF files. Stop Screen Saver. For performance considerations, when a client spools files, the screen saver will be stopped. Vignettes Between Two or More Pantone Colors Service Pack 3 for the Spire CXP3535 contains an improved algorithm that provides better management of pantone colors blends. New Printer Status messages The CXP3535 No Communications printer status message has been replaced with a set of new, more descriptive, printer status messages: Status Message Startup Connecting Power or Cables problem Turn Printer Off and On Indication CXP3535 connection startup process Connection to printer Printer is turned Off or DDI cables are disconnected or misplaced Wrong system Power-On sequence. Printer was turned On before the CXP3535 application The Attention Required printer status message was rephrased to Printer Needs Attention. Page 8 of 17

9 New supported page size 10x13" from PPD An additional paper size was added to the selectable options in the PPD: 10x13", which is only for use while printing from Tray 5 of the Xerox DocuColor 3535 Copier/Printer. Manual Duplex GUI change The Manual Duplex print method can be selected in the Job Ticket only when you are printing from Tray 5 (bypass). Note: This GUI behavior change only increases usability. Manual Duplex functionality was not changed. New Auto Tray constraints Since Tray 5 (bypass) cannot be auto selected by the DocuColor 3535 Copier/Printer, scenarios that require printing from Tray 5 (bypass) are now constrained. The "Auto" Tray selection options are limited to the following: Print Method: Manual Duplex Paper Size: The following options are available: Custom, SRA3, 8x10 LEF, 10x13 SEF, 5.5x8.5 LEF, 12x18, 12x19, B6 SEF, A5 LEF, A6 SEF, Postcard SEF, Envelope LEF Media Type: The following options are available: Lightweight 55-63gsm, Postcard, Envelope Same as Job option GUI change Tray selection was removed from Job Ticket when using Same as Job paper stock. The Same as Job paper stock option is available for special papers (i.e. Admin page, Slip sheet, Front/Back cover). Note: This GUI behavior change increases usability. The Same as Job functionality was not changed. Tray selection is still available under the Paper Stock - Other option. Face Up printing The Face up printing option was removed from the Job Ticket and PPD. Job Offset Job Offset (jogging) can be selected for both the Finisher and the Center Tray. When set to On, the sheets (sets) are placed in two positions that are offset sideways. Note: Single page jobs are never offset. New Imposition Templates The following step & repeat templates were added to the Spire CXP3535 color server predefined list: 9 x 3, 3 x 9, 5 x 4, 4 x 5, 2 x 4, 3 x 3, 5 x 6, and 6 x 5. New Scan Templates The following Scan templates replace the current Spire_Color & Spire_BW templates: BW: o SpireBW200_1S (i.e., B/W, 200dpi, 1 side) Page 9 of 17

10 o SpireBW200_2S COLOR: o o o SpireColor200_1S SpireColor200_2S SpireColor600_1S Color and BW scanned jobs carry their template name and are saved on the Spire User disk under D:\ScanToSpire\Spire_color and D:\ScanToSpire\Spire_BW respectively. Prinergy_SWOP Color Emulation The Prinergy_SWOP color emulation was added to the Spire CXP3535 color server set of predefined source profiles (emulations). Prinergy_SWOP is the default destination profile of the CREO Prinergy Workflow System. Original Blank Pages The original blank pages of the job appear in the CXP3535 Color Server Accounting report. Print engine information on CXP3535 Test Page Print engine information was added to the CXP3535 Color Server Test Page. This information includes: Print engine s Firmware versions, Serial number, Feeders and Finishers configuration. Support for New Language The Spire CXP3535 color server workspace and PPD file supports additional language; Brazilian Portuguese. Novell support improvement The Spire CXP3535 color server supports the distribution of NDS Print Queue objects in different NDS contexts. Printer Mixed Color mode The Xerox DocuColor 3535 Copier/Printer supports a Mixed Color printing mode. When this mode is set to On, the printer does not cycle down between color and B/W pages of the same job. Thus, productivity increases. The printer mixed color mode setting is available via the CXP3535 color server Administration>Preferences>Printer Color Mode. Page 10 of 17

11 Note: It is recommended to set the Mixed Color option to Off if the majority of printed jobs are B/W. Security feature Disk Wipe This paragraph describes how to use the Spire CXP3535 color server Disk Wipe utility. Normally, when you delete a file, the file s dictionary entry is removed but data still remains on the disk. The Disk Wipe utility enables you to clear previously deleted files. Disk Wipe eliminates the contents of your deleted files by scanning all of the empty sectors on the disk and replacing them with zeros. Sectors that are not empty are left untouched. This feature enables you to work in a more secure environment. Operating the Spire Disk Wipe Utility 1. Shut down the Xerox DocuColor 3535 Copier/Printer. 2. Exit the Spire CXP3535 color server application. 3. Browse to General/Utilities/PC Utilities/Disk Wipe. 4. To install the utility, double-click the Disk Wipe installer icon. The Disk Wipe utility icon appears on the Spire CXP3535 color server desktop. 5. Double-click the Disk Wipe utility icon. The disk wipe application opens. 6. To start the disk wipe operation, click the Start Wiping button. A progress bar appears while the Disk Wipe operation permanently deletes files. Page 11 of 17

12 7. Wait until "Disk wiping was completed successfully" message appears and close the Spire Disk Wipe application by pressing on the Exit button. Notes: The disk wipe operation does not function well when Norton Utilities is installed. Before you activate the Spire Disk Wipe utility, make sure that Norton Utilities is not installed on the Spire CXP3535 color server. The supported language is English. In rare cases, the process of deleting files from the Storage Folder is not completed, for example, the system shuts down before the deletion process is completed. In these cases, parts of the deleted files still reside in the D\:Output folder. Therefore, it is recommended that before you start the disk wipe operation, check the D\:Output folder to ensure that all the relevant files were deleted. The Disk Wipe utility affects the user disk and printer disks. Do not operate the Disk Wipe utility while another application is running. Disk Wipe may take some time to complete. Make sure the completion confirmation message appears before you close or abort the application. Page 12 of 17

13 Spire CXP3535 Color Server Limitations Admin page does not include post-rip modifications The Admin Page is generated during process only. Parameters that have been subsequently changed but do not require re-processing (i.e. in RTP jobs) are not reflected in the Admin Page information. Enabling the Advanced Printing features cause a spooling error Enabling the Advanced Printing Feature on the Printer Driver Options>Document Options causes a spooling error, and a pop up message appears on the client side: "Printer Folder; there was an error when printing document to INPUT. Do you want to retry or cancel". The Advanced Printing Feature is not supported by the Spire CXP3535 color server. Mixed orientation Jobs and Stapling Mixed orientation jobs may be cropped if stapling is selected. Transparency Interleave Transparency Interleave may not work properly from Tray 3 and Tray 4 with a TTM (Tandem Tray Module) configuration on the DocuColor3535 Copier/Printer. Page 13 of 17

14 Installing the Service Pack Important Before installing Service Pack 3 for the Spire CXP3535 color server Service Pack 3 for the Spire CXP3535 color server automatically formats the image disk during the installation process. Verify that any important jobs are archived before continuing the Service Pack 3 installation for the Spire CXP3535 color server. Note: If current installed version includes Service Pack 2 for the Spire CXP3535 the format image disk will not be activated. Service Pack 3 for the Spire CXP3535 color server should be loaded on the Spire CXP3535 color server version 1.0, or on Service pack 1 and 2 for Spire CXP3535 color server version 1.0. Service Pack 3 for the Spire CXP3535 color server contains an update of the Spire CXP3535 color server Postscript Printer Description (PPD) file. The following table describes the required action for each OS/printing method: Operating System Method Action Windows (All) Windows printing None (automatic update) Windows (All) LPR Copy the new printer driver files from CXP3535 utilities share. Erase printer and re-install according to the User Guide. When prompted for the PPD file, browse to the new PPD file. Novell 5.x, 6.x Non-NDPS printing Copy the new printer driver files from CXP3535 utilities share. Erase printer and re-install according to the User Guide. When prompted for the PPD file, browse to the new PPD file. Mac OS 8.x, 9.x AppleTalk Replace the local PPD file with the new PPD file downloaded from the CXP3535 utilities share. Recreate the desktop printer (according to the explanation in the User Guide). When prompted for the PPD file, browse to the new PPD file. Mac OS X AppleTalk/LPR Replace local PPD file with new PPD file downloaded from the CXP3535 utilities share. Erase printer and re-install according to User Guide. When prompted for the PPD file, browse to the new PPD file. The service pack installation will restore the factory defaults of the default Virtual Printers (ProcessPrint, ProcessStore, SpoolStore). SP3 is distributed via CD or downloaded from FTP/HTTP site. If any virus scan software is loaded on the Spire CXP3535 color server, it is recommended to disable the software before installing Service Pack 3. Once Service Pack 3 has been installed, the virus scan software can be enabled. Page 14 of 17

15 Installation Procedure 1. Shut down the Xerox DocuColor 3535 Copier/Printer. 2. Shut down the Spire CXP3535 color server application. 3. Insert the CXP3535 Version 1, SP3 CD into your Spire CXP3535 color server or download and expand the SP3 compressed file to the Spire CXP3535 desktop. 4. Locate the Setup.exe application file in the SP3 directory, and double click to launch the installation. 5. Read the Attention message and click Yes if you approve the format action. Note: If current installed version includes Service Pack 2 for the Spire CXP3535 the following window will not appear. 6. Click Yes to accept the license agreement. Page 15 of 17

16 7. The system reboots after the installation process is finished. 8. During the Spire CXP3535 color server application launch, a VBScript message appears; click OK. Note: If current installed version includes Service Pack 2 for the Spire CXP3535 the following window will not appear. 9. When the Spire CXP3535 color server application launches, from the Help menu, select About. Page 16 of 17

17 The following window appears with the service pack information: 10. Turn on the Xerox DocuColor 3535 Copier/Printer. Uninstalling the Service Pack To uninstall Service Pack 3: 1. Uninstall the Spire CXP3535 color server application, using the Add/Remove application located in the Control Panel. 2. Install the application from CD-ROM #2 (P/N C) located on the Spire CXP3535 color server software kit. Page 17 of 17
