3 1 Introduction The goal of this document is to explain and show to every user of the Remote Desktop Services, how to print documents from the European Parliament remote desktop environment to their local or network default printer. 2 How to access the list of your printers 2.1 On your Windows 7 workstation (physical workstation) Click on the Start button and then click on Devices and Printers. Here you have the list of all your printers (see Picture below). The printer marked with a green check mark is your default printer; in the picture above the default printer is the Lexmark E352dn (MS). Page 3/9

4 2.2 On your Remote Desktop (virtual workstation) You should first connect to the Remote Desktop Services following the guide Windows7Guide.pdf ( Click on Desktop 7 to launch a new remote session. Then a new window will open. You will have to wait until CITRIX configure your remote desktop. Page 4/9

5 When your remote desktop is fully loaded, click on the Start button and then click on Devices and Printers. Be careful to click on the Start button of the remote desktop. Here you have the list of your remote desktop printers. Page 5/9

6 You can see that printers in your remote desktop environment are not the same as the printers in your local computer. The default printer (with the green check mark) is now Citrix UNIVERSAL Printer (from XXXXXX) where XXXXXX represents your physical computer. 3 How to print from your remote desktop As we seen in chapter 2.2, we have only two printers under our remote desktop: Citrix UNIVERSAL Printer (from XXXXXX) Nitro PDF Creator (Pro 10) We will now explain when and how to use one or the other. 3.1 How Citrix Universal Printer works The Citrix Universal Printer is not a physical printer, but a virtual one, that redirect all printings to the default printer set on the local/physical workstation, the one defined on chapter 2.1. In simple words, when you print a document on the Citrix Universal Printer (1), the document is printed on your preferred local printer (2), in our case on the Lexmark E352dn (MS). Page 6/9

7 Remark: Your default printer could also be a network printer. In this case, the document printed on the Citrix Universal Printer (1) is redirected to the network printer (2) that you defined as default on your local workstation; for example the MFP- LUXKAD04C007-B&W-089 printer that is a black and white copier located on the network at the 4th floor of KAD. 8 3.2 How to use Citrix Universal Printer The only thing you have to know is when you print on the Citrix Universal Printer, the document is printed on your default local printer. 1 On your local computer, install every printers you need ( 2.1). 2 On your local computer, set your preferred printer as default. 3 Connect to your Remote desktop. 9 4 On your Remote desktop, print documents to Citrix Universal Printer. 3.3 When to use Nitro PDF Creator (Pro 10) printer If you don't have any printer connected to your workstation or if you encounter trouble to print on your default printer, you can easily create a PDF document by printing it on the Nitro PDF Creator printer. After the PDF document creation, you can send it by or do whatever you want with it Page 9/9
