B. INTRODUCTION Welcome to CYBRA Corporation s MarkMagic Bar Code and Label Printing Software. Enclosed is the latest modification level of Version 5.1 of MarkMagic 5 Bar Code Label, RFID Tag, and SM@RT Forms Software for the IBM iseries or i5 featuring our JMagic Client Version 3.0 the world s only WYSIWYG label and forms designer written in Java. MarkMagic installation comes in a variety of flavors. The traditional CD based installation is still available. In addition, you now have the alternative of downloading MarkMagic from the CYBRA website. 1. INSTALLATION TERMS Install An Install is a new installation of MarkMagic. We offer two methods of installing MarkMagic V5.1, via CD or via download. Note: Version 4.1 is only available on CD. Upgrade An Upgrade is a move from Version to Version. For example, if you are an existing customer on MarkMagic Version 4.1 and you wish to install MarkMagic Version 5.1. We offer two methods of upgrading customers, via CD or via download. Note: Version 4.1 is only available on CD. Update An Update is a move from MarkMagic Version 5.1 Mod Lvl to a later modification level of MarkMagic Version 5.1. We offer three methods of updating modification levels: Full update via CD, Full update via download, or Quick update via download. Fixes Fixes are single updates to individual program objects and are not applicable to all customers. All fixes distributed since a Mod Lvl release will be incorporated into the next Mod Lvl release. Visit to see if any applicable fixes have been release for your modification level and printer device types. For example, Version 5.1 customers updating from Mod Lvl and above have three update options. Follow the "Full" update instructions (either via CD or download), or use our new "Quick Mod Level Update" procedure. See Section G. Quick Mod Lvl Update if you are at or later. You must be at OS/400 V5R1M0 or later to download and install MarkMagic V5.1 from the web. If you are at OS/400 V4R5 or V4R4, please contact help@cybra.com. 6 2. WHAT S NEW IN MARKMAGIC V5.1 MOD LVL Enhancements in MarkMagic Increased the total number of data, text and barcode variable fields in a format from 750 to 999. This added capacity helps MarkMagic customers and Application Software Vendors support increasingly complex labels and forms with up to 10 times the number of variable format fields as competing solutions. Updated command, WRKMMVSN (Work with MarkMagic Version) now requires *SECOFR authority to change MarkMagic version defaults other than *SESSION or *USER. Protects *SYSTEM version from being changed by mistake. Updated command, SETMMVSN (Set MarkMagic Version) now allows *DEFAULT for both current *SESSION and *USER user levels. Allows the *SESSION version to be changed back to the *SYSTEM version more easily. Now, you don't need to know the *SYSTEM version, you can specify *DEFAULT. Updated Graphic functions. Conversion function now retrieves graphic length and width for source graphics. In addition, graphic field formatting improved by adding calculated graphic size and converted graphic rotation value to graphic image retrieval during format definition. This helps position complex graphics correctly. PDF Add On Option: Added new command, WRKMMEML (Work MarkMagic ) to display, edit and change the *DEFAULT and *USER configuration information; Many new fonts, styles, and sizes now supported. Enabled special values, *DEFAULT, *USERID, and *USERNAME in SENDER parameter of PRTLBLF (Print a Label File) command; New Times font now properly displays as Times Roman in PDF; Bar codes and rotated graphics now display correctly on rotated forms; Courier font scale changed to match the scale in the MarkMagic; PCL5 driver; Barcodes now display in the correct location in PDF (Previously, they were printing off by the height of the barcode itself); Boxes and lines in PDF now match the printed look when printed from MarkMagic. Added the ability to use *RANDOM record order for FormWeaver jobs. Additional flexibility is gained when the label file LBPARM field is examined to determine the format to use, record by record. Unlike the previous sequential record order (*SEQ) in which the input records follow the same sequence as the list of formats in the FORMATS parameter, random record order lets you vary the FormWeaver formats printed on each page, in any order you like, as long as the formats appear anywhere in the FORMATS parameter list. Chapter B. INTRODUCTION Page - 4 -
Print Monitor: Added support to match the number of copies to the number of copies on the input spool file if the copy attribute is set to 1 in the job set up. This is useful in applications in which you need to print a variable number of copies of a label or a form. Added the ability to start Print Monitor in a User s start up program This comes in handy whenever a program is run to start the subsystems. MarkMagic Jobs: Added *JOB option for MarkMagic Jobs and Print a Label File (PRTLBLF) command. This option will retrieve the DEVICE or OUTQ from the User s job attribute. This is useful in applications in which you need to change where the output will print. This option allows you to use the 'CHGJOB' command before the MarkMagic job runs to override the OUTQ or print device. This option will also allow you to control jobs that are run by the print monitor. 2D Bar Code for Forms Option: Added native 2D bar code support for V5R2M0 and above. Previously, a PC was required to create laser 2D bar codes. 3. WHAT S NEW IN JMAGIC V3.0 MOD LVL Enhancements in JMagic New integrated online help system. This web-based help system features context sensitive help topics based on the panel and task you are working on. New Command Prompters recall the parameters used the last time you used the command. This works even after user exits and restarts JMagic and several command prompts now fill in User's ID by default. Graphic enhancements: There are two new default graphics that may be seen while designing a format in JMagic. One that indicates a variable graphic is used. The other is for graphics that do not have a Source graphic associated with them; Added Image Conversion Complete Dialog for notifying when JMagic completes converting a graphic. Rename Format option now available in the Format Menu, and the system name is now visible in the JMagic status bar at the bottom of the screen. Arrow keys on the keyboard now do not move user's view of the format. This helps in accurately moving fields. JMagic now correctly supplies the graphic width and height when adding a graphic; JMagic now swaps the length and width of the graphic when it is rotated; Converting PCL graphics with rotation is now enabled in the converter; Specifying a graphic number at time of conversion now correctly overwrites an existing graphic number; Correct row value is now provided when adding a new graphic. Previously a value much lower than the selected row was provided causing many invalid row errors. Graphics that were converted Chapter B. INTRODUCTION Page - 5 -
rotated should now display correctly on the format. Previously they were shown rotated the opposite direction. This is valid for the normal design layout and when using Print Preview. Print Preview: Fixed variable graphic support. The graphic is now drawn in the correct spot on the format. Improved the accuracy with which JMagic displays fonts on the screen. Logon Preference Windows and Graphics Properties Window changed so user does not have to manually resize the windows. 4. WHAT S NEW IN MARKMAGIC V5.1 FOR V4.1 USERS MarkMagic Visual Designer has a new Main Menu screen, and JMagic has a new, updated look with new icons, and a new menu look and feel. Integrated all graphic functions so that you no longer require separate utility software tools for converting graphics. Graphics can be static (one per format) or variable (graphic changes with each record of your file). We strongly recommend using JMagic to convert your graphics for better performance. New PRTLBLF parameters: SECURE FROM OTHER OVERRRIDES allows you to secure the MarkMagic print file from any other overrides. EMULATED DEVICE provides ability to design formats for one printer type and then print to any printer in the printer type family. It also allows you to specify non-printed output like Adobe PDF file. QDLS is no longer the default folder on the IFS. Any path can be used. New Printer Drivers include Avery Dennison, Epson Raster Text, Paxar SNAP. RFID support for Monarch (MPCL), Zebra (ZPL II), and Printronix (IGP/PGL). Most MarkMagic commands needed for label file creation and printing have been added to JMagic. At anytime in the design process, a preview of your format can be generated. Save your format and click the Turn On Preview toolbar icon. A preview of your format with the spool file or database file data you were working with during your design session will be shown OR JMagic will prompt you to browse your system for a file to supply data to your preview. Once in preview mode, a navigation window allows you to view multiple pages by clicking next page. New constant fields along with box, line and graphic fields can be added. You can also modify the previewed text fields sizes or font types. Multi Level Undo is now supported in JMagic. You have the ability to undo (and redo) any change you have made during a design session by simply clicking the undo or redo button on the JMagic toolbar Chapter B. INTRODUCTION Page - 6 -
In addition to default zoom options you can now tailor your JMagic design view by entering a custom zoom percentage. Click on view and select either one of the default zoom options or enter a custom percentage. Defining SM@RT Forms is easier than ever. Now you can automatically create an entire format against an existing spooled file in just a few keystrokes. JMagic will create a new text field wherever there are one or more blank spaces between the text in your spooled data file. This is a fast way to duplicate your spooled data. To speed your design of a new label, an image of your target label or form can be scanned and imported into JMagic as a Template. When you enable a template in the design session, a light gray image of the template will appear as a backdrop on your canvas. 5. MARKMAGIC ADD-ON OPTIONS RFID Add-On Option MarkMagic 5.1 supports printing smart labels containing RFID tags for these three popular thermal printer types: Monarch, Printronix and Zebra. Included is support for both Class 1 and Class 0 EPC standards, and will also support, eventually, the Class 1, Generation 2, EPC protocol. In addition to EPC tags from Alien Technology and others, MarkMagic 5.1 supports RFID tags from Matrics, which plans to introduce a read-write version of the Class 0 EPC tag, and Texas Instruments TagIt tags, Philips I-Code tags, Inside Technology s Pico tags, and ISO tags from a number of manufacturers. Print Monitor Add-On Option Print Monitor eliminates programming for automatic MarkMagic printing. New spooled files added to a queue or a record added to a database file will trigger a MarkMagic Job to print labels or forms. PDF and Add-On Option With this option you can produce Adobe Acrobat PDF files containing searchable text and scannable bar codes. PDF documents can be sent as attachments. Note: This option requires V5R2M0 or higher of OS/400, PASE & JAVA v1.4.2 Laser Printer 2D Add-On Option Select this option if you need to print UPS Maxicode, PDF417 2D or DataMatrix bar codes on HP PCL Laser or IBM AFP or IPDS laser printers. FormWeaver Add-On Option The new FormWeaver option enables printing of documents that merge up to 100 formats. An example of merged formats would be a pick ticket or invoice form with a shipping label in the lower left hand corner. FormWeaver Documents can Chapter B. INTRODUCTION Page - 7 -
also consist of two or more different formats, each on a separate page, for each input record. An example of multiple formats per input record would be a printed bill of lading that contains a duplexed back page with special instructions. 6. LICENSE INFORMATION The Version 5.1 MarkMagic licensing scheme requires that we know your Processor group, in addition to the CPU model and serial number. Also we need to know whether MarkMagic will be run in more than one logical partition (LPAR). 31 G. QUICK MOD LEVEL UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS 1. BEFORE YOU BEGIN You must already be at MarkMagic V5.1 Mod Level or BEFORE applying this update to Modification Level If you are not at Mod Level , or , you will need to download and install MarkMagic V5.1 Full Upgrade (please see our website or contact CYBRA Technical Support at: for more details). Before installing your new version, make sure that: No one has the MarkMagic library (MRKMAG50 or MRKMAG) or the MarkMagic User library (MRKMAGDTA) in his or her library list, and also make sure that no one is working with MarkMagic or JMagic. To see if someone is using MarkMagic sign on with SECOFR authority and enter WRKOBJLCK OBJ(MRKMAG50) OBJTYPE(*LIB). Also, enter the Work with Active Jobs (WRKACTJOB) command on an OS/400 command line. Look at the column Function for CMD-STRMRKMAG. The MarkMagic library (MRKMAGDTA) is not locked. To see if the MarkMagic User library files are locked, enter the Work with Object Locks (WRKOBJLCK OBJ(DEVPF50) OBJTYPE(*FILE)) command on the AS/400 command line, and press F4. Type DEVPF50 for the object name, MRKMAGDTA for the library, and *FILE for the object type, and press ENTER. Look at the column Users to see who is working with MarkMagic. Ask them to sign off the system in order to release the MarkMagic libraries and files. If you are upgrading from an older 5.1 modification level and using the MarkMagic Monitor Option, please make sure to end your monitor before upgrading. Type: CALL PGM(MRKMAG50/ENDMONPGM) PARM(' '), and press Enter. We recommend that you save MarkMagic libraries (MRKMAG, MRKMAG50, MRKMAGDTA) and User libraries prior to installation. After following the above steps, sign off the system and sign on to a new session as QSECOFR (or make sure you have SECOFR authority to begin the update.) The update process should take between 5 and 10 minutes depending on system load. Chapter G. QUICK MOD LEVEL UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS Page
2. INSTALLATION Download the file, MM ZIP from this web page or copy the file from the Update folder on the MarkMagic product CD to your PC hard drive. Unzip it and save the file to a folder in the root directory of the IFS: Example: '/home/cybra/mm savf Sign on with a User ID with Security Officer authority. On an OS/400 command line, type MRKMAG50/APYMMFIX and press F4. The Apply MarkMagic Fix (APYMMFIX) parameters will be displayed. In the From PC file parameter, type the path name to the file you unzipped, MM savf, and saved in Step 2. In the To Library parameter, do NOT use the default value. Instead, be sure to type MM50TEMP Press Enter. The Apply MarkMagic Fix Command will create the library MM50TEMP and restore the update objects to it. Sign off the system and sign on again with a User ID with Security Officer authority to begin the upgrade. On an OS/400 command line, type CALL MM50TEMP/INSMMFIX and press Enter to start the installation. Chapter G. QUICK MOD LEVEL UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS Page
The following occurs during the upgrade procedure: Replaced AS/400 objects will be saved in a Save File called MM+old mod level number. Example: MM in library MRKMAG50 Replaced IFS objects will be saved in a new folder in cybrajavaclasses. Folder name is the old mod level number (no MM in front). Example: In the last step of the upgrade procedure, a job that deletes the library MM50TEMP is submitted to batch. 3. TROUBLESHOOTING Log spool files will be created that list all updates. These spool files will be put on hold under your user profile with the file name MARKMAGIC. Should errors occur, a large log spool file will be created including the job log to help identify problems. If you have trouble installing Version 5.1, we request that you us the summary log immediately following your installation. If the installation is unsuccessful, there will most likely not be a printed Install Log. Please send the log file in QGPL to help@cybra.com. Chapter G. QUICK MOD LEVEL UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS Page
