1 Important! Read this Information Bulletin before Upgrading Switched Rack PDU products to rpdu Firmware Version or This Information Bulletin is relevant for you if 1. The part number of your Switched Rack PDU is one of these: (AP79xx): AP7900, AP7901, AP7902, AP7902J, AP7911, AP7920, AP7921, AP7922, AP7930, AP7930J, AP7931, AP7932, AP7932J, AP7940, AP7941, AP7950, AP7951, AP7952, AP7953, AP7954, AP7957, AP7960, AP7961, AP7968, AP7990, AP7991, AP The serial number of your Switched Rack PDU is within this serial number range xx0301xxxxxx xx0816xxxx. 3. You want to upgrade the firmware to or from or any other previous firmware revision. 4. You want to upgrade 50 or fewer Switched Rack PDUs. Objective: This information bulletin advises customers to download the config.ini file before upgrading the Switched Rack PDU to the latest firmware revision. Please follow the work instructions detailed on pages 3-7. Parts Required: 1. Networked computer/workstation 2. Access to the Switched Rack PDU over the network 3. Firmware revision The firmware download is in the form of an executable: apc_hw02_aos359_rpdu358.exe which can be obtained from the APC-MGE website after logging-in using this link: -7G6SLV&swfam=55_187&family=&part_num=&tsk=f817x or download the executable this way: IB0117GB01 29 September 2008: Page 1 of 7

3 Instructions: Downloading the config.ini file: 1. From your desktop, click on Start/Run and type cmd. Press <enter>. 2. From the command prompt, switch directories to your Desktop. 3. Create a directory called config on your Desktop by typing mkdir<space>config. Press <enter>. IB0117GB01 29 September 2008: Page 3 of 7
4 4. Switch to the config directory by typing cd<space>config and press <enter>. 5. You will need to know the IP address of the Switched Rack PDU you are accessing at this time. Type ftp<space><ip address of the Switched Rack PDU> and press <enter>. Enter the login credentials for the Switched Rack PDU. Default username and password are both apc. If you have changed this, enter your login credentials. 6. Once at the ftp> prompt, type bin and press <enter> 7. Type get<space>config.ini<space><ip address.ini> then press <enter>. 5 8. Type bye then <enter>. 9. The <ip address>.ini file should now be located in a folder called "config" on the desktop. Verify that the file is there and then you may now upgrade the firmware. Upgrading the firmware The firmware download is in the form of an executable: apc_hw02_aos359_rpdu358.exe. When you run the executable it asks for the IP address and login credentials then does the upgrade itself. The executable is attached to this information bulletin and can also be obtained from the Reapplying the config.ini 1. Once the firmware has been upgraded, you can put the config.ini file back on the Switched Rack PDU. From your desktop, click on Start/Run and type cmd. Press <enter>. 2. From the command prompt, switch directories to your Config directory. IB0117GB01 29 September 2008: Page 5 of 7
6 3. Type ftp<space><ip address of the Switched Rack PDU> and press <enter>. Enter the login credentials for the Switched Rack PDU. Default username and password are both apc. If you have changed this, please enter your login credentials. 4. Once at the ftp> prompt, type bin and press <enter> 5. Type put<space><ip address.ini> then press <enter>. Example: put<space> ini 6. Type bye then press <enter>. This step logs you out of the Switched Rack PDU. 7. Let the Switched Rack PDU process the new file. Allow at least 2-3 minutes. 8. The Outlet User Accounts should be applied to the Switched Rack PDU. To check, log into the Switched Rack PDU via your web browser. Default username and password is apc. If you have changed this, please enter your username and password. Once the username and password is entered press Log On. IB0117GB01 29 September 2008: Page 6 of 7
7 9. Click on Device Manager then Outlet Manager. The customers Outlet User Accounts should still be listed. 10. As long as the Outlet User Accounts are still listed and the firmware upgrade was successful, this process has been completed successfully. If the Outlet User accounts do not appear, try uploading the config.ini file again and make sure you give the Switched Rack PDU ample time (5 minutes) to apply all settings. If the Outlet User accounts do not appear, please contact APC Technical Support. Notes: This Information Bulletin is geared towards upgrades involving 50 or fewer Switched Rack PDUs.
