Note: For a updating the software on a simulator use NEXT GENERATION CONTROL - SIMULATOR - MULTIBOOT procedure. If you replace the main processor or if you cannot put the machine back into operation refer to: NEXT GENERATION CONTROL - SOFTWARE UPDATE GUIDE. Software Download Software Update - (Option 2) - NGC 1 Log on to the HAAS PORTAL. Note: Make sure you have pop up blocker deactivated. Select the Service tab [1]. Select Documents and Software [2].

2 Software Download Software Update - (Option 2) - NGC 1 Log on to the HAAS PORTAL. Note: Make sure you have pop up blocker deactivated. Select the Service tab [1]. Select Documents and Software [2]. Select Control Software [3]. Select Next Generation Control. Select Mill, Lathe and Simulator Software. Select the link (100.xx.xxxx.xxxx.) to download the software file. 2 At the prompt, enter the User Name and Password that you use to log on to the Portal. Download and unzip the file to your USB memory device. Caution: Make sure you do not have another folder named HaasUpdateData in the root folder of the USB memory device. Page 2 of 13 pages

1 If you are reloading the configuration file, go to step 5. Select the Service tab [1].

Enter the serial number for the machine [4] and select Get Machines [5]. Select Next [6].

Push [SETTING]. Navigate to the Network tab to see the machine MAC address [4].

3 Enter any number in the Machine Generated code: field [2]. Enter a reason for upgrading [3].

Enter the serial number for the machine [4] and select Get Machines [5]. Select Next [6]. 2 Make sure the MAC address [2] on this screen matches the MAC address [4] on the machine. Push [SETTING]. Navigate to the Network tab to see the machine MAC address [4]. Select the Software Version [3] you are updating to. Select Next [1]. 3 Enter any number in the Machine Generated code: field [2]. Enter a reason for upgrading [3]. Select Next [1]. 4 Review the software update information [2]. Select Submit [1]. The screen will show an activation code. You can ignore this code. 5 Select NGC - Configuration [1]. Enter the machine serial number. Select Get Details [2]. 6 Make sure the machine information is correct [1]. Select Download All Files [2].

Caution: DO NOT select Factory Setting File or Download Original Build Files Only [3]. Only selectfactory Setting File if you are doing a clean software install. Note: Add a.zip extension to the downloaded file. 7 Look at the structure of the unzipped folder. The files in the folder must have an exact structure so that the machine control can find the files. If you have (2) folders named with the machine s serial number [2], copy the SECOND folder to the root of the USB memory device. If you have only (1) folder named with the machine s serial number [1], copy that folder to the root of the USB memory device. When you are finished, the USB folder structure must look like the picture on the left. The order of the files in the CONFIGURATION folder does not matter. Page 5 of 13 pages

6 Software Update - (Option 2) - NGC Next Generation Control - Configuration File - Load 1 Power on the machine with your Haas Control Key. The USB memory device must contain these items: Your HaasKey.txt file [1] Configuration files folder [2] 2 Push [EMERGENCY STOP]. Push [LIST PROGRAM]. Navigate to the USB tab [1]. Select the directory with the serial number file name [2]. Push [ENTER] to put a Mark [3] in the box for the file name [2]. 3 Push [F4] [1]. Select Load Parameters [2]. Push [ENTER]. This starts the parameter file installation. The prompt File or Folder Already Exist shows. Push A to delete all installed files and install the updated files. 4 If you get the error shown in the illustration, push [CANCEL]. The installation of the configuration files is completed. 1 Set Setting 155, Load Pocket Tables, to ON. Note: Make sure the memory lock key switch is in the unlocked position. Push [LIST PROGRAM]. Navigate to the USB tab [1]. Push [F4], System [2].

The backup makes a.zip file. You can open this.zip file on the control or on a PC. The name of the.zip file that contains the backup data has this structure: "HaasBackup", then the date.

Select Back Up Machine [3]. Push [ENTER]. 2 Know this important information about backup files: The next step puts the copies of the machine data files in the open directory on the USB memory device. The backup makes a.zip file. You can open this.zip file on the control or on a PC. The name of the.zip file that contains the backup data has this structure: "HaasBackup", then the date. For example, HaasBackup(xx-xx-xxxx).zip. You cannot make a backup file if the control is in MEMORY or USER DATA modes. 3 This screen lets you select the data files to make copies of. Caution: If the machine has software version , DO NOT select User Data [2] when you make a backup. Go to the User Data tab [1]. Select the User Data files to backup. Push [F2] to copy the files to the USB memory device. Make a selection. Push [ENTER] to select or deselect what you must backup. Push [F4] to make the backup. 4 Download and print NEXT GENERATION CONTROL - SOFTWARE UPDATE CHECKLIST to manually record the machine configuration values. After the software is updated and machine data is restored you can check that machine configuration settings are set correctly. Know this information about the stored data: System Data makes copies of these data files: settings Page 8 of 13 pages

Programs makes copies of all the files in the Memory folder. The approximate size of each selection shows on the right side of the display. The total Estimated size shows at the bottom. Software Update - (Option 2) - NGC 1 Insert the USB memory device into the USB port on the Control pendant.

This screen shows the Platform Update Version and Release Notes. Press [ENTER] to continue. Press [M] for MACHINE or Press [S] for SIMULATOR.

11 Software Update - (Option 2) - NGC 1 Insert the USB memory device into the USB port on the Control pendant. The USB memory device must contain the following in the root folder: Configuration files folder [1] HaasUpdateData folder [2] Machine backup file [3] Your HaasKey.txt file [4] 2 Power off the machine. Press [POWER ON] while you press and hold the [U] button until the (4) linux penguins show. 3 The HAAS AUTOMATION SOFTWARE UPDATER screen appears. Press [2] to begin the Software Update process. The UPDATE SOFTWARE FROM USB screen appears. This screen shows the Platform Update Version and Release Notes. Press [ENTER] to continue. Press [M] for MACHINE or Press [S] for SIMULATOR. 4 All the machine data is backed up onto the USB drive. The FPGA is updated. The platform version is checked. Note: The platform version will automatically update when a new version is released. The software update begins after 6 seconds. Page 11 of 13 pages

5 If the platform version update was done, the platform version is updated and verified. [1] Note: The platform version update includes the software update.

Use the Machine Software Update option to get the activation code. Enter all the machine information. Use the Machine Generated Code on the control to get the activation code.

If you did the software update, the software update is verified. [2] You are prompted to cycle power. Power off and power on the machine. 6 Go to the HAAS PORTAL. Use the Machine Software Update option to get the activation code. Enter all the machine information. Use the Machine Generated Code on the control to get the activation code. Enter the activation code in the control and press [ENTER]. If you updated to software version or higher, make sure Media Display shows it has been purchased in thefeatures tab, in the Parameters tab. If it does not show that it has been purchased, load the configuration files again. Media Display is a standard feature on all NGC machines with software version or higher. 7 Press [DIAGNOSTIC] to access the Parameters, Diagnostics and Maintenance screen. Select the System tab. Verify the System Platform Version [1] and Software version [2] are correct. 8 Important: If you encounter any problems during or after the software update process refer to: NGC - SOFTWARE UPDATE GUIDE Page 12 of 13 pages

13 Important: When this procedure is completed, make sure that the correct optional functions are enabled. ENTER THE BILL TIME CODE IF AVAILABLE. If the Bill Time code is not available, be sure to increase the time to the maximum date permitted from the Haas Portal. Important: After you complete work on the machine, make sure you remove your Haas Control Key and press [POWER OFF]. Note: For all SS machines, you must set the T-Axis Grid Offset when you update software from xxx.xxxx to xxx.xxxx. Refer to NGC - SERVO-DRIVEN SMTC - GRID OFFSET AND TOOL CHANGER OFFSET.
