2 Introduction Introduction This document contains information on previous releases of Pointsec Mobile Symbian OS (S60) in the 3.X series. The information included here is based on the Release Notes for each release. For information on releases in the 2.X series, please see the documentation accompanying that product. As you read this document, please note the following: The first Pointsec for Symbian OS (S60 3rd Ed.) version recorded in this document is 3.0, because this is the version in which the Symbian OS platform changed from S80 to S60. As of the release, the product and documentation were rebranded to Pointsec Mobile Symbian OS (S60) due to the fact that Pointsec Mobile Technologies AB was purchased by Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. See the Pointsec Mobile Symbian OS (S60) Release Notes for details. Versions prior to are referred to as Pointsec for Symbian OS (S60) in this document. In this document, the abbreviation N/A is used. N/A means Not Applicable. Pointsec Mobile Symbian OS (S60) is also referred to as Pointsec Mobile or Pointsec. This document contains the following chapters: Product Version Tracking on page 2, containing information on the changes and corrections made and the devices supported in each release. Tracking on page 20, which lists each device and the release or releases that support it. Product Version Tracking This chapter includes information on changes and corrections made in the previous releases of Pointsec for Symbian OS (S60 3rd Ed.) and Pointsec Mobile Symbian OS (S60) and a list of the devices supported in each release. Version Changes and Corrections in New in In this release, the following was added or changed: New profile settings: Access contacts and call history This feature enables the administrator to decide whether or not the users should be able to access contacts and call history applications when the device is locked with screen lock. Disable native device lock This setting enables the administrator to decide whether or not Pointsec Mobile should prevent the native device lock from being activated if the Pointsec screen lock is enabled. With this setting, it is possible to enable users to access contacts and call history applications when the device is locked with screen lock Disabling of native device lock New profile setting added: Disable native device lock. With this setting, it is possible to configure the profile so that the native device lock is disabled if the Pointsec Mobile screen lock is enabled Improved authentication time Previously, customers sometimes experienced that it took too long to authenticate to Pointsec Mobile. The authentication time has now been greatly reduced. New s These devices are added in this version: Nokia 6124 Fixed in This Release The following issue has been fixed and verified: Table 3 Fixed in ID Short description Description/Info Waiting for installation profile was displayed at startup When Pointsec screen lock was activated, it was sometimes not possible to connect to PC-suite using USB. On rare occasions, Pointsec entered an unrecoverable state which made Pointsec unusable. The USB connection dialog was sometimes not displayed on top of the screen lock window. 6 Version Fixed in This Release The following issues have been fixed and verified: Table 5 Fixed Issues in ID Short description Description/Info Removing Pointsec Mobile hung the device Silent uninstall failed when the encrypted memory card prompt was answered Pointsec Mobile displayed the missed calls message when the user pressed the red button The Remove Pointsec function never finished if an encrypted memory card was inserted and no files were encrypted. If you initiated removal of Pointsec Mobile from a Management system, it failed under the following conditions: User encrypted a memory card which was not present during Pointsec Mobile removal. Pointsec Mobile displayed the message Memory card encrypted but not inserted, continue or cancel? If the user pressed cancel, the removal was aborted on the client, and the Management system could not initiate a new removal. Pointsec Mobile incorrectly displayed You have missed call(s) when Pointsec Mobile screen lock was activated and an incoming call was dismissed with the red button. 7 Version Version Changes and Corrections in New in this release: Temporary Encryption Pointsec Mobile temporarily encrypts new information written to the device during times when you are not authenticated. The information is then decrypted and encrypted normally when you authenticate to Pointsec Mobile, making the information available to all applications as usual. The devices that support temporary encryption are Nokia E51 Nokia E90 PR2 Screen Lock If the screen lock function is enabled on the device, Pointsec Mobile blocks most other windows while it is locked, which forces the user to authenticate himself to use most other applications on the device. When screen lock is enabled, the native key lock of the device will be activated after Pointsec Mobile locks to prevent the user from being accidently locked out. Password Policy and Property Settings Password policy and property settings have been added to the installation set settings for Pointsec Mobile. These settings allow the administrator to manage how long passwords can be used and define the strength of the passwords that users use to access their devices. The following are the password policies that administrators can deploy on the device. The minimum length of time, in days, during which a user must use the same password. The maximum length of time, in days, during which a user can use the same password. The number of unique new passwords that a user must use before he/she can re-use an old password. The following are the password properties that administrators can deploy on the device. This setting is included in previous versions of Pointsec Mobile Symbian OS (S60). Its location is new in this release. Passwords can be required to contain both upper and lower case characters. Passwords can be allowed to start and end with a digit. Setting Moved and Renamed The installation set setting Silent Installation Wizard has a new name: Welcome Message. It has been moved from the Management Settings section to the Miscellaneous section in the Pointsec Administration Console. Note the change in function for this setting compared to previous versions: Setting the Welcome Message to No minimizes the amount of user interaction that is required in the Pointsec Mobile installation wizard. In previous versions, when the setting was called Silent Installation Wizard, the Yes setting performed this function. Remote Help using SmartCenter for Pointsec - webrh Pointsec Mobile Module You can configure Pointsec Mobile to use SmartCenter webrh, a separate Check Point product, to provide Remote Help to users instead of the standard Remote Help functionality. For information on using SmartCenter webrh, see the SmartCenter for Pointsec - webrh Pointsec Mobile Module Administrator's Guide. Fixed Issues The following issues have been fixed in this release: Table 9 Fixed Issues in ID Short description Description/Info Pointsec Mobile display problem The Pointsec Mobile icon did not display in the Fast Select menu after upgrade until user switched the device off and on. However, sometimes Pointsec was not uninstalled. This has now been fixed. When Pointsec was unlocked and an antivirus application (running a real time scan) was enabled, the device user interface sometimes froze, requiring the device to be reset. 11 Version New s Supported Nokia E51 Nokia N81 Nokia N81 8GB Nokia N82 Nokia N95 8GB Fixed Issues The following issues have been fixed in this release: Table 13 Fixed Issues in ID Short description Description/Info Background image display problems Messages were not encrypted after message storage was switched to memory card Users could not choose an image as a background with Pointsec Mobile installed. After restarting the device, the background picture was encrypted and not displayed until the user authenticated. Messages (for example, SMS and MMS) were not encrypted if the user copied such messages from the phone memory to a memory card. New messages were not encrypted if message storage was switched to a memory card. This occurred even if the memory card was encrypted. 12 Version Table 14 Supported s in the Nokia N95 V or later Nokia N95 8GB V Nokia 6110 Navigator V Version Changes and Corrections in New in this release: Removal of JPEG (JPG) files from predefined lists Encryption of JPEG (JPG) files can decrease device performance. Therefore, JPEG files are no longer included in any of the predefined lists. If users work with sensitive pictures, you may want to add a special picture folder on the inclusion list in which the user can store such pictures. Appendix B, Entries in Predefined Inclusion and Exclusion Lists in the Pointsec Mobile Symbian OS (S60) Administrator's Guide has been updated with this information. Fixed Issues The following issues have been fixed in this release: Table 15 Fixed Issues in ID Short Description Description/Info CR Pointsec Mobile client installation wizard did not start properly on devices using Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite The user was sometimes forced to reboot the device to get the installation wizard to start properly when he installed Pointsec Mobile on devices using Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite. CR Problems removing Pointsec Mobile from devices using Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite The device hung when the user attempted to remove Pointsec Mobile from a device using Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite. On Nokia E65 devices, the user had to initiate synchronization with Mail for Exchange manually after Pointsec was locked Connection to Web applications broken When the user unlocked Pointsec, connections to applications that accessed certain encrypted files were broken. We recommend, however, that you install this release immediately to fix a few problems that were discovered after the 3.1 release. 17 Version New functionality Pointsec for Symbian OS (S60 3rd Ed.) is now interoperable with Sybase ianywhere OneBridge 5.5 Nokia Intellisync Manager OMA DM Edition Update Profiles Administrators can now update security profiles easily with Pointsec for Symbian OS (S60 3rd Ed.). For more information, see Update Profiles for Pointsec for Symbian OS in the Pointsec for Symbian OS (S60 3rd Ed.) Administration Guide. Augmented Configuration Guidance for Improved Usability To help administrators and users make optimal choices when working with Pointsec for Symbian OS (S60 3rd Ed.), we have added recommendations in the Pointsec for Symbian OS (S60 3rd Ed.) Administration Guide to provide guidance for such questions as how long to set inactivity timeout and the whether or not to encrypt memory cards. For more information, see the individual setting instructions in the Installation Settings section in the Pointsec for Symbian OS (S60 3rd Ed.) Administration Guide. The General Recommendations section of the Release Notes (this document) has also been augmented with advice on testing profiles for usability, defining encryption inclusion lists, and which predefined sets to use to ensure messages can be synchronized. We will continue to add information to the documentation in future releases on how you can secure devices while maintaining usability. Fixed issues The following issues were fixed and verified in the release: Table 24 Fixed Issues in ID Short Description Description/Info 8121 Locking Pointsec caused the radio to terminate unexpectedly 8071 Unlocking Pointsec broke connection with Web applications 7765 Software behaved as though it were possible for the user to remove Pointsec 6200 Misleading error message appeared during backup When the user locked Pointsec for Symbian OS (S60 3rd Ed.), the radio terminated unexpectedly. This has been fixed in this release, however, see ID 6634 in Known Issues in This Release for information on other applications where this problem may still be encountered. When the user unlocked Pointsec for Symbian OS (S60 3rd Ed.), connections to applications that access encrypted files were broken, forcing the user to reconnect to the Web applications to continue using them. If the user attempted to remove Pointsec via the application manager, Pointsec for Symbian OS (S60 3rd Ed.) was NOT removed from the device. However, it was no longer shown in the application list. This has been fixed in this release. When creating a backup, a misleading error message sometimes displayed, leading the user to believe that the backup had failed, when in fact it had succeeded. The reason for this was that automatic retrieval of stopped working after installation of Pointsec for Symbian OS (S60 3rd Ed.). This has been solved in this release, so POP3 accounts can now be used Backup and restore was interrupted by Pointsec lock Previously, data was lost if the Pointsec lock timeout occurred when backing up or restoring data.
