4 The Horizons Pre-Algebra Tests and Resources Book is a consumable component that is to be used with the Horizons Pre-Algebra course. This book should be kept by the teacher and the pages should be passed out as they are called for in the Teacher s Guide Lesson Plan. By providing the tests and worksheets in a separate book the opportunity is reduced for the student to see these materials before they are distributed which will increase the validity of the assessment results. Each item should be removed from this book prior to distribution. The pages are perforated for easy removal. This book includes the following: Course Introduction Tests There are 6 tests in the Horizons Pre-Algebra course. One test follows each set of 0 lessons. Eams Four eams have been developed for this course. One eam follows every 40 lessons. Eam 4 is also a fi nal eam. You have the option of administering the fi rst two pages as a fourth quarter eam, or all si pages as a cumulative fi nal eam. Worksheets This course has 80 worksheets. These worksheets have been developed for reinforcement and drill. A complete listing of the worksheets and where they might best be used is provided on the following pages or in the Teacher s Guide. Some Worksheets are for additional practice of a new concept while others are for review or a quiz grade. The Lesson Plan will indicate which case applies for each Worksheet. Formula Strips Occasionally, formula strips are called for in this course. Students should cut these out when the Lesson Plan calls for them. The number of formulas and conversion factors that the students must memorize has been limited to the ones that are typically required by standardized testing. Nets Supplements This course includes supplements for the lessons that cover nets of -D shapes. Students should cut these out when the Lesson Plan calls for them. Details on their use are given in the Lesson Plans where needed. Algebra Tiles Algebra tiles will be used in this course. The students should cut these out the fi rst time the Lesson Plan calls for them, and store them in a ziptop bag for future use. These manipulatives will assist both visual and kinesthetic learners in mastering algebraic concepts. 5
