This is only supported on Android (Lollipop) or later. Wi-Fi Direct allows a device to access the cellular network provided by its SIM card while still being paired with a WT10X locator via Wi-Fi. This is useful for drivers that need internet connectivity for other third-party apps while still using Driver Center. Pairing and unpairing your device with a locator by means of Wi-Fi Direct is straightforward, but there are several scenarios and situations (described in the Notes and Considerations section) that you should be aware of when using Wi-Fi Direct. This document is accurate as of the Driver Center 5.16 release BSM Technologies Ltd. Page 1

Pairing devices via Wi-Fi Direct Here s how to pair your device with a locator in Driver Center via Wi-Fi Direct: 1. On the Driver Center home screen, tap Wi-Fi Direct Connect at the bottom right.

2 Pairing devices via Wi-Fi Direct Here s how to pair your device with a locator in Driver Center via Wi-Fi Direct: 1. On the Driver Center home screen, tap Wi-Fi Direct Connect at the bottom right. You should now see a list of all available WT10X networks. Note that the network names contain the last 4 digits of each locator s serial number if you see multiple WT10X networks, verify the serial numbers to make sure you re connecting to the correct vehicle. 2. Tap the name of the network associated with your vehicle and then tap Connect. Note that in-progress connection attempts can be canceled at any time BSM Technologies Ltd. Page 2

3 3. (Optional) Once the connection is successful, you can tap Link to set this network as the default connection. This means that you don t need to manually reconnect to the locator whenever the Android device is restarted. This default connection can be removed at any time by tapping Reset. 4. Tap Close to return to the main login screen. The Wi-Fi Direct icon appears on the device s notification bar: 5. Back on the main login screen, log in using your username and password. Notes about the connection process: When the device has paired successfully, you will see an on-screen message. The connection process may take up to 2 minutes.

The connection process can be canceled at any time. The connectivity indicator at the bottom left is delayed by roughly 30 seconds. It s normal for it to flash red for a short time after a connection has been established. Once the connection is made, the pairing will persist until you disconnect Wi-Fi Direct. This means that: o If you walk out of range of the locator, your device will automatically reconnect when you walk back in range. o IMPORTANT: No other devices will be able to connect to that vehicle s locator until you disconnect your device, regardless of whether or not you re in range. Logging out when using Wi-Fi Direct If you are going to use a different vehicle on your next shift, or if someone else will be using your vehicle, you must log out and unpair your device when you have finished using the vehicle. It s very important that you log out before unpairing, because your device relies on the locator s network connection to transmit information (such as HOS logs, inspection forms, etc.) to Fleet Center. If you unpair before logging out, then all your information will be trapped on your device until it connects to a locator. 1. 5 3. Tap the network name of the currently connected locator and then tap Disconnect. Notes and considerations This section goes over some situations that you should be aware of, best practices, considerations, etc. The connectivity indicator at the bottom left of Driver Center has a slight delay. It s normal for the indicator to stay flashing red for about 30 seconds after successfully connecting via Wi-Fi Direct. The Wi-Fi Direct connection process can take up to 2 minutes. If the connection attempt takes longer than this, then another device may already be paired with the locator, or there may be a problem with your device or the locator itself. Driver Center constantly searches for nearby Wi-Fi networks approximately every 30 seconds in the same way that your device constantly searches for networks while Wi-Fi is enabled. Note that this may increase battery usage. If you re done working with a vehicle for the day and there s a chance that someone else will be using that vehicle, you should disconnect your device. If you don t, other drivers may not be able to pair with that vehicle. WT10X locators are active for approximately 2 hours after ignition off. This helps ensure that all your Driver Center activity is transmitted to your Fleet Center servers so that your driver logs are complete and you are HOS compliant BSM Technologies Ltd. Page 5
