2 1. To begin downloading library ebooks to your Kindle, go to our homepage at Click on E-Library in the vertical menu on the left. Then click on Download. Click on the OverDrive logo. 2. This will take you to the Westchester Library System s Digital Media Catalog. Click "Sign In" in the upper right. 3. To sign in enter your library card number (without spaces) and your pin number. Your pin number defaults to the last four digits of your phone number.

3 4. Once you log in you be taken back to the Digital Media Catalog home page. Click on Account. 5. From the Account page you can view your Bookshelf, your Holds, your Lists, and your Settings. Your Bookshelf shows the items you currently have out. Your Holds shows items you have reserved. Your Lists shows your Wish List, and Settings allow you to change your account settings. The tabs for these sub-pages are in the upper left. Click on Settings.

4 6. Here you can change your default loan periods from 1 week to 2 weeks. Select the default loan periods you prefer.

5 7. Find the Advanced Search link in the upper right corner of the page. By using the Advanced Search options you can refine your search in a number of useful ways. You can search by Title, Creator (author), Keyword, and ISBN. You can also specify the Format. Click the drop-down menu next to Format and select Kindle book to limit your results to books in the Kindle format. By specifying a Subject you can limit your results by subject, such as Crime or Historical Fiction. You can choose to search the entire library collection or just titles available now. Just as with regular books, we are limited to loaning one book to one person at a time. Therefore not all books in our collection are available all the time. Let's do a search now. For Format select "Kindle book" and for Subject select "Fiction." Click on the "Library Collection" button and then click the "Search" button.

6 8. This is a list of all the fiction ebooks in the collection. Each ebook is represented by an image of its cover. Also notice that you can switch between the entire library collection and those books available now by using the buttons in the upper right. You can change the sorting of the list by using the Sort By option in the upper left. You can also search within your results (upper left) or narrow the search further by format, subject, publisher, language, grade level, rating, and device (left side of the page). Click on the cover of the first book.

7 9. This page shows the details of this particular ebook. On the left is an image of the cover. In the center is the title, author, rating, Place a Hold / Borrow button, plot summary, and wish list tag. On the right is information about the available formats, series, subjects, and copies. We can tell that there are no copies of this book available because the button in the center says "Place a Hold." On the right side under Copies we can see there are is 1 copy owned and 0 copies available. You can click Place a Hold to reserve the ebook. Enter your and you will be notified when the book is available. You'll then have 3 days to check it out. ebooks being held for you can be retrieved from your Account page under the Holds section. You can also use the Wish List tag to add the ebook to your wish list. The Wish List is a list that you can go back to later when you are ready to check out the ebook or to see if the ebook is available. It can also be located on the Accounts page in the Lists section. Click the back button in your browser to go back to the search results. Click the Available Now button and select one of the available ebooks. Click the Borrow button. Then click the Go to Bookshelf button.

8 10. This is your Bookshelf. All the books you currently have checked out are listed here along with their expiration dates. On the right side of the screen you can see how many books you have checked out. Click the Get for Kindle button. 11. The message in the image above will pop up. Once you select a format you cannot download the book in another format. In this case we are selecting the Kindle format. Click the Confirm button.

9 12. You will be taken to Amazon.com to get your book. Click the "Get library book" button to proceed. 13. Sign in to the Amazon account attached to your Kindle.

10 14. Once you log in you can choose where to deliver your book, and if you have already attached your Kindle to your Amazon account you should see it in the "Deliver to" list. Make a selection and click "Continue." 15. Congratulations! The next time your Kindle connects to Wi-Fi the book will be downloaded automatically. If for some reason you cannot access a Wi -Fi network, you can download the book manually. To do this you will need the USB cable that came with your Kindle. Once you have connected your Kindle via USB to the computer, click "Download Now."

11 16. You should see a dialog box. If not, click the link on the page to manually open the dialog box. Click "Save." 17. Select your Kindle from the "Save in" drop-down menu.
