2 What is OverDrive? OverDrive is a distributer of emedia (ebooks, audiobooks, and more). The company was founded in 1986 and is based in Cleveland, Ohio. OverDrive helps libraries deliver their digital content to patrons and consumers. They provide 24/7 online access via apps and a website that allows you to freely download library books and other digital media. To Visit the Website: 1. Open your web browser and go to 2. Click Books, DVDs, and More 3. Select Downloadable Media 4. Choose the link to go to the Clevnet Digital Library site Tour of the Site: Unsure of what you would like to read next? Browse genres and categories of books. Click on any subject in the orange bar to begin.

3 As you scroll down the homepage, you will see new emedia, as well as popular titles. Download ebooks in the Public Domain at anytime. These classic titles do not count against your checkout limit. Public Domain books come in the EPUB format, which most Kindles do not support. Find the box pictured to the right on the Clevnet page and click or tap to begin. Your Account At the top-right corner, you will see four buttons and the Sign In link. These buttons are: Menu, Account, Help, and Search. Menu: This button toggles the orange bar with the genres and categories links. Click to hide the bar and click again to make it reappear. Account: You can view your current checkouts, see what you have on hold, and manage your wish lists. You can also adjust some of your account settings. Help: This button gives you access to five different links. You can contact the Clevnet Technical Support team, watch how-to videos for downloading media, see which file formats your device supports, find out how to recommend titles to your library for purchase, and review the library checkout policies. Search: You can perform a quick search for simple phrases, such as titles or authors names. You can also click the Advanced Search link to perform more specific searches. Click in the search box to get started. Sign In: Click here to sign into your account. You will need your library card number located on the back of your card.

4 Bookshelf When you go to your account, you will first see your bookshelf. Your bookshelf displays your current checkouts. If you need to download a title again, you can by clicking the Download button. Your bookshelf will also display the expiration date for your checkouts. You do not have to return a book when the checkout period expiries. The file will automatically be returned and deleted. Let s look at other features in your account. This green chart shows you information on your check-outs, hold list, and wish list. Clevnet members can only check out 20 digital materials at one time. You can check out more than 20 materials total; you are only limited on your simultaneous digital checkouts. These four links (Bookshelf, Holds, Lists, and Settings) give you access to different aspects of your account. Bookshelf: Your currently checked out titles. Holds: Your holds. You can view and modify these items. Lists: Keep track of books you ve read, books you would like to read, and other wish lists. Settings: Change the length of your default loan periods, modify parental controls, and more.

5 Searching for emedia Located at the top-right, you will see the simple search box. Type the name of an author, title of a book, or title of a series to get started. After you type your search terms, click the magnifying glass or press ENTER on the keyboard. You will see your search results displayed. Below is an example of a search for the author Stephen King. Filter results by subject, genre, file format, publishing information, and more. View search results. To the left of your search results, within the filters, you will see three options: All Titles, Available Now, Additional Titles to Recommend. All Titles: All titles owned by the library that match your search, including unavailable materials. Available Now: All titles owned by the library that can be checked-out now. Additional Titles to Recommend: Results that match your search, but are not owned by the library. By clicking here, finding a title, and selecting Recommend, you are letting your library know you would like them to add that title to their collection.

6 Checking Out a Book The following steps show you how to check out books. The steps are the same from any device, although the screen may look slightly different depending on which device you are using. After you select a title, you will need to check it out. Click on the title. You can review the book summary and information on the next page. Click to place hold if book is not available. The green chart will display how many copies the library owns, how many are available, and which book formats are available. Clicking this option will open a separate window or tab with your book in it. If you choose this option, however, you will always need to be connected to the internet to access your book.

7 Some books are available in multiple formats. You will need to select the appropriate file format for your device. See the Device Chart at the end of this packet. After you select a format, you will be able to download the title. YOU CAN ONLY SELECT THE FORMAT ONCE. You cannot change format type while you have the book on loan. If you need a different format, you will have to return the book and check it out again. If it is a popular title, you may have to wait. If you have a Kindle, you will need to download the Kindle version. After you select Kindle Book, you will be redirected to the Amazon website. Click Get Library Book to download the title. You will likely be prompted to put in your Amazon account information. Note: not all titles are offered in Kindle Book format.

8 Downloading the OverDrive App The OverDrive app is free and allows users to check out library ebooks and audiobooks on mobile devices. To download the app, first open your device s applications store. See Chart Below. Device Apple Devices (ipad, iphone, ipod) Android Devices (Nexus, some smartphones, Nooks) Nook (versions produce pre-2014) Store 3 Steps to Overdrive 1. Type Overdrive, in the search bar. 2. Tap the OverDrive Icon. 3. Tap Install or Get. Microsoft Devices (Surface and some smartphones) Kindle Tap Apps at the topright of the screen, then Store. Navigating the OverDrive App Although the App s appearance can vary slightly by device, the basic components should remain the same. Swipe your screen from left to right to access the menu. The example shown here is from an Android tablet. Add a library/clevnet: Tap Add a library to search for and select Twinsburg Public Library as your library. Select CLEVNET (which will be added to your menu after adding Twinsburg as your library) to browse and download titles. You will then be taken to the mobile or desktop version of the Clevnet Digital Library website. Bookshelf: View/read/listen/watch your downloaded media. Your bookshelf will open automatically when opening the app. Account: Manage your account information. Settings: Here, you can obtain or change your Adobe ID, adjust screen brightness, and change preferred settings. Files: See your downloaded files or what is currently downloading. History: Information about every title you ve downloaded to OverDrive. Help: Get information about getting started and instructions on how to do various tasks in OverDrive. 9 Downloading Titles with the OverDrive App: Quick Tutorial The following screenshots were taken from an Android Tablet. You device may look slightly different, but the steps are similar. Step 1: Open the OverDrive menu and select CLEVNET as your library. Step 2: Tap Sign In in the top right corner and enter your library card number. Step 3: Search for a title by selecting the magnifying glass or by browsing categories. Step 4: Tap Borrow after you ve selected a title. If the title is already checked out, tap Place a Hold. Step 5: Select file format (See Device Chart at end of packet). You can only do this once. Then, select Confirm & Download. Step 6: The title will download to your OverDrive bookshelf, which is accessible from the menu. Enjoy!

10 Adobe Digital Editions What is Adobe Digital Editions? Digital Editions is a free software program that allows users to transfer emedia (ebooks and audiobooks) to their devices. Kindles and Apple products do not require Digital Editions. This program is used to transfer EPUB books and audiobooks from your computer to older ereaders. Note: You do not need Adobe Digital Editions with the Kindle, Apple products, or newer tablets or ereaders. If your device is able to connect to the internet and install the OverDrive app, you will not need Adobe Digital Editions. How to Download Adobe Digital Editions on your Computer: 1. Open your web browser and go to 2. In the upper right corner, click on search and type in Digital Editions. 3. Click Adobe Digital Editions then Download. 4. Select the appropriate version for your computer (e.g. Windows vs. Mac). 5. Click Save As or Save File. 6. Click Run or Open. 7. Follow any additional prompts to finish the installation. Once the program is installed, you will be ready to transfer ebooks to your devices. Plug your device into your computer and drag your downloaded book to its icon on your bookshelf. 11 Adobe ID Note: In the newest version of OverDrive, you are not required to create an Adobe ID. However, in some rare cases or on some devices it may still be required. What is an Adobe ID? Adobe gives authorization for your device to download EPUB books. Once you create an Adobe ID, that information is stored in the OverDrive application. You will not need to sign-in every time. An Adobe Account is free to activate. You will need a valid address. Step 1: Creating your ID 1. Open your web browser and go to 2. Click the Sign-in link in the upper-right corner of the webpage. 3. Next, Click Get an Adobe ID. 4. Fill out the form, and click Sign-Up. Step 2: Authorizing your device 1. Open your OverDrive App. 2. Tap Settings in the menu. 3. Tap Authorize then choose either Use OverDrive Account or Use my Adobe ID.
