1 1 For Nook Classic and Touch Instructions for Borrowing Nook E-books from My Media Mall *You will need to download software in order to get e-books from My Media Mall for the Nook. Nook books cannot be transferred wirelessly, only through the computer. *The formats for Nook e-books are EPUB and PDF. 1. Logging into My Media Mall The Adobe Digital Editions software is free and you will need it for downloading e-books for your Nook device. You will have to log into your account and find the software before you can download any books. You first need to go to the My Media Mall website. You can do this by going to and clicking on the My Media Mall icon. Or you can go directly to the My Media Mall website at

2 2 To sign in to My Media Mall and being checking out e-books, click on Account, which will bring you to a page where you can choose your library. Select Illinois Heartland Library System from the list.

3 3 After selecting Illinois Heartland Library System, you will be directed to a page to put in your Library Card Number and PIN number. Your library card number begins in and your PIN number is the last four digits of your phone number. If you do not know your barcode or PIN, please call the library at (217) After you Log In, you will be taken to your Personal Account page, where you can view your Bookshelf, Holds, Lists, and Settings from the menu on the right-hand side of the page.

4 4 2. Your Personal Account Page The Bookshelf page is where you can view which items you have checked out at any given time. This is also where you will download the books you have chosen to check out. The Holds page is where you can view the items that you have placed holds on. The Lists page is where you can save books that you would like to read in the future and rate books you have already read. The different lists are your Wish List, Rated titles (which will show books that you have rated), and Recommended for you (which will show you books based on your past preferences).

5 5 The Settings page is where you can set the amount of time for checking out an item. The options are for 7 days or 14 days for e- books, audiobooks, and videos. You can click the Done button after you have chosen your options. Towards the bottom of the menu on the right-hand side is a box that shows your Checkout limit, the number of Titles checked out, and the number of Checkouts remaining. The number of titles that can be checked out at a time is 5.

6 6 3. Downloading Adobe Digital Editions Software To find the software, you will need to start on your Personal Account page. On the right-hand side of the page, there are links for Bookshelf, Holds, Lists, and Settings, and a box that shows how many books you have checked out. Underneath all of these is a button that says Get Software. Clicking this button will take you to the Software Downloads page. You will see the link for Adobe Digital Editions for ebooks. This link will take you to the Adobe Software home page.

7 7 On the right-hand side of the page, there are links under Next Steps. Click on the Download Now link. This will take you to another page that will give you the installer to download the software to your computer. You must either choose the installer for Macintosh (Apple computers) or Windows. Just clicking on the links will be enough to get the software started for download.

8 8 The file will download and a pop-up window will appear that looks like this. Click Run and this will begin the full software download. Accept the terms for the software when asked. Choose your desired options for the software. This will tell where the software to be installed. The shortcuts will enable you to find the software on your desktop and start menu. After clicking Next, this will bring up a screen for a destination folder, where the software will be stored on your computer. Click Install, and the software will fully download.

9 9 Once the setup has been completed, click the Close button, and the Adobe Digital Editions program will automatically open to the Adobe Digital Editions Bookshelf.

10 10 4. Browse for EPUB and PDF E-books To browse from the page, click the Menu icon on the menu bar next to Account. This will bring up categories of books that you can browse. You can also search using the Search box.

11 11 You can also search for available EPUB and PDF e- books through the Advanced Search option. This can be found in the Menu bar under the Search box. You can search specifically for books in the EPUB and PDF format if you select either EPUB or PDF ebook from the All Formats option. You can also search for available books by selecting the Available Now button and then clicking the Search button.

12 12 After you have selected some search options and you get some results, you can see what is currently available but clicking on the Available Now button at the top of the page. If you choose Library Collection, books that are or are not available will be shown. If they are not available, you can place a Hold on them. On the left side of the page, you can see more ways to narrow your search by Subject, Publisher, Language, Grade Level, Rating, and Device. 5. Checking Out an E-book or Placing a Hold If the e-book is available, you can check it out right away: Click the Borrow button. Choose 7- or 14-day checkout (it will say which option is available for the book). On the right-hand of the page, there are boxes for Available Formats, Series, Subjects, and Copies. These boxes show in what formats the book can be downloaded, the series that it is part of, the subjects and genres for the book, and the number of library copies and available copies.

13 13 After you click the Borrow button, you will be taken to your Bookshelf where you can Download the book in the either EPUB or PDF format by choosing either the EPUB ebook or PDF ebook option from the drop-down list and Confirming and Downloading the book. *Please note that you can only choose either EPUB or PDF, not both. If the e-book is already checked out, you can place a hold on it: Click Place a Hold.

14 14 Enter your address. You will be notified when the item is available for you to download. 6. Downloading the EPUB or PDF file to Your Computer After you click Confirm & Download, the file will immediately start downloading to your computer. Click the file to open it or choose Open. Adobe Digital Editions software will open with your e-book ready to view. The file will look something like this in your Downloads folder on your computer. o IMPORTANT: The first time you use an Adobe EPUB or ADOBE PDF e-book, you must authorize your

15 15 computer and your e-book reader. You cannot view the EPUB or PDF files otherwise. Click on the Create an Adobe ID link. This will take you to a page where you can fill out the information needed to register your device. 7. Transferring your EPUB or PDF File to Your Nook

16 16 If your Adobe Digital Editions software is not already opened after downloading the EPUB or PDF file, open it on your computer. Plug your Nook into your computer. Select the e-book you want to transfer and drag it to your Nook. Your EPUB or PDF files may be located in the My Files, My Documents, or My Stuff folders. Make sure to safely eject your e-book reader by choosing Eject. Unplug your Nook device. 8. E-books from My Media Mall are Never Overdue Downloads are automatically returned at the end of the loan period, which means there are no overdue e-books. Library e-books saved on a Nook will not work after the loan period ends (either a 7 day loan or 14 day loan). You can t renew e-books but you can borrow the same item again if it is available. Remember to delete expired e-books off of your device to save space for other e-books. You can also return e-books early. To do this: Remember that you will have to return the borrowed e- book separately on both your computer and your Nook device. First, plug your Nook into your computer. Open the Adobe Digital Editions software on your computer. Click on All Items. Click on the Item Options arrow, to the left of the e-book cover. Click on Return Borrowed Item. This returns it to your computer only. To return the copy on your Nook e-reader, click on your Nook and follow the same steps. 9. Deleting EPUB and PDF E-book Files

17 17 Remember that you have to separately delete the file from your computer and your Nook device. To completely delete EPUB and PDF files that are no longer active, click on All Items. Click on the Item Options arrow, to the left of the e-book cover. Click on Delete Item. This deletes it from your computer only. To delete the copy on your Nook, click on your Nook through your computer and follow the same steps. 10. Help OverDrive, which is the company that runs My Media Mall, provides excellent online help. At the top of every page is an icon for Help in the menu bar. This icon will lead you to a page of helpful online tutorials and instructions.
