4 BYOD Classes The following classes will be BYOD in 2017 : Year 7 ACE Year 7 BYOD ( max 2 classes) dependent upon enrolment numbers Each class will comply with class size guidelines of 28. If there is sufficient enrolment a second Year 7 BYOD class will be formed. Get in early to secure your place.

5 Overview: This program has been developed in alignment with the ACARA framework and our vision for school wide technology use. It will allow students to engage with the curriculum through a laptop of their choosing. Our vision for technology use: Elanora SHS values learning. Through quality pedagogy, Elanora SHS students learn in an environment that is supportive, connected and current. Our use of technology underpins this philosophy by supporting curriculum delivery and enhancing student outcomes.

6 Specialised Curriculum Delivery: Through the utilisation of digital methods of delivery such as: The Blackboard Academic Package Microsoft SharePoint EQ s web conferencing package Collaborate The Learning Place ESHS Digital Library (Turnitin, V Library Multimedia Delivery, EBSCO databases)

7 Students will have the benefit of: 24 7 access to learning materials Collaborative and connected approaches to learning A multitude of opportunities to express learning using digital mediums. Access to our print solution which gives students print/scan facilities school wide.

8 Cybersafety and BYOD With regard to student safety in the digital landscape, the BYOD program will: Address and model safe, legal and ethical ways of operating with ICTs Access to a bank of resources for parent and students on cyber safety

9 How the program works Once accepted into the program, students will need a device that meets our network and software requirements to participate. Upon acceptance to the program, parents will be required to pay an annual connection fee of ($50 in 2017) at the commencement of each school year to cover connecting your device to the network and ongoing support for network connectivity.

11 Catering for increased computer use: To cater for an increase in the use of the technology, BYOD students will receive: An increased download limit to accommodate the increased internet usage Increase limit to network storage Access to a help desk to support the implementation of their device on the network.

12 Hardware Specifications: The table below outlines the required specifications of a machine that would be suitable for our BYOD program in 2017: Minimum Hardware Requirements Intel: Core i3 (preferably i5) CPU: RAM: Graphics: Storage: Network: Screen Size: Battery life: AMD: Not recommended. The processor will need to be reviewed before registration. 4 GB Minimum Intel Built-in graphics acceptable 320 GB HDD Optical Drive optional Wireless: n compatible built-in. 13 to 15 inch recommended 1280 x 720 minimum resolution 12 inch minimum/15+ inch not recommended. 4.5 hour minimum battery life

14 FAQs: Will I need to purchase a new device? No. If you currently have a device that meets the minimum recommended standards, then that will be fine. Will my device need to be customised for this program? No. The device will need minimum customisation to join/interact with the network. It will retain its user customisations. Who can take part in the program? At this stage, we are offering BYOD in the ACE classes (year 7) and there will be a general entry BYOD offered in year 7.

15 FAQs: Is an ipad/tablet suitable? No. We are currently investigating the use of these devices as secondary devices, but at this stage the vast majority of curriculum delivery has been designed with a laptop in mind. How much will it cost? The BYOD program will have an annual connection fee of $50. What technical support is offered? The school will cover all technical issues arising from connecting the device to our network. There will also be some support staff available to troubleshoot any issues that arise during the school day. Beyond that, students are responsible for the day-to-day upkeep and maintenance of the device they bring to school

16 BYOD Registration Students who have been offered and accepted a place in ACE 2017 in Year 7 will automatically be in a BYOD class. A number of students have been offered and accepted places in BYOD 2017 already. There is no selection process for the Year 7 general BYOD class simply register online - opens tonight, complete the enrolment process and ensure you have a BYOD that matches the program requirements.
