1 Taking Exams with SofTestM 1 One time ipad setup: Complete before exam day. This download takes a few minutes. 1. In the ipad App store, search for and install SofTestM on your ipad. 2. Navigate to Settings in ipad and then to Privacy. 3. Select Photos, and turn on SofTestM. This ensures screenshots are not taken during an exam 4. Next, select General from Settings. 5. Select Accessibility. 6. Turn on Guided Access, and set your ipad code. 7. Launch SofTestM. 2 Starting your exam: 1. Launch SofTestM 2. Type in your username and password a. Include llusm\ before your username. b. Your password is the same as your Canvas password. 3. Go to Step 1: Download exams. Tap arrow to download your exam 4. Go to Step 2: Take your exam. Tap an exam name 5. If taking a secure exam, enable both: a. Airplane Mode (in your ipad s settings) b. Guided Access (triple click home button to select Start) 6. Enter Exam Password (if required). 7. An Alarm Reminder* can be set before starting your exam. *Five more alarms can be set simultaneously during the exam. 8. Select Start when ready to begin exam. 9. Read through any pre-exam notices and tap Next. 10. Enable exam features are displayed in the Exam Settings. 11. When instructed, type the word begin and select Begin to launch your exam. 3 Taking your exam: 4 After your exam: 1. The blue action bar displays the exam settings including Guided Access (GA), and WiFi. Both turn green when enabled 2. To navigate from question to question, slide the green Next and Previous buttons, or use the Question List. 3. Select Save & Exit when you have completed your exam. 1. End Guided Access. (Triple click home button, select End, and enter your ipad passcode.) 2. Click home button once, select Settings, and turn off Airplane Mode. 3. Click home button once, launch SofTestM, and your answer file will upload automatically. NOTE: If you update SofTestM before uploading your answer file, you will lose your answer file.

3 Loma Linda University School of Medicine Test Site Policies Academic Year LLU School of Medicine examinations will be administered in a manner similar to those given by the National Board of Medical Examiners. The following test site policies have been adapted from the National Board of Medical Examiners (NMBE) policies for administration of examinations. Personal belongings in the testing room Students are not permitted to bring the following items into the seating area of the testing room: Backpacks (No backpacks will be allowed in the testing room). Please deposit your backpack in your locker or car before you enter the room. Backpacks cannot be left in the hallway because it is an unsecured area and the items are considered obstructions for fire evacuation. Reference materials (No books, notes, papers, etc. including Ipads*, will be allowed in the testing room). These items may not be left in the rooms adjacent to the testing facility. They should be stored in a secure place such as your locker or your car. Food or drink of any kind. Students with health concerns who require an exception may make special arrangements through the Office of Student Affairs. Caps, hoods, or non-religious head coverings Purses, pencil boxes, or any other small items Pencils or pens (dry erase pens and whiteboards or pencils and scratch paper will be supplied) Calculators (calculators are available on the exam computer) Cellular telephones, paging devices, or personal digital assistants (e.g. PalmPilots); Any cell phones left with the proctors must be completely turned OFF. Watches with alarms, computer or memory capability, or recording capability Recording/filming devices Sound devices (ipods, etc.), earbuds* or headphones (earplugs are acceptable) *Allowed only during an Ipad exam (not during a Subject or other in-house exam where a desktop PC is being used.)

4 Taking an exam on your ipad You are permitted to bring in ONLY your ipad and earbuds. ipad covers, sleeves and keyboards are NOT allowed. SofTest-M must be installed and registered on your ipad BEFORE you come to the test center (see instructions on How to install and use SofTest-M on your Ipad ). Exam must be downloaded to your ipad BEFORE you come into the test center (see instructions on how to download and set up your exam on SofTest-M). Your ipad must be fully charged BEFORE you come into the test center. Entering the examination room You must show your student ID badge in order to be admitted to the examination room. Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time so that the exam can begin on time. To prevent confusion about who is present and who is not, once you have been admitted to the testing facility, please take your assigned seat and remain there until after the chief proctor has finished reading the instructions and the exam has begun. No one is permitted to leave the room once they have been cleared by a proctor to enter until after the exam has started and they have signed out properly at the Proctor s table. Late Arrival In order to sit for an examination, you must be present when the chief proctor reads the examination instructions at the designated start time. If you arrive late to an examination, you will be denied entrance. If, due to special circumstances, you have been given permission by the Chief Proctor to arrive late to an examination, the number of minutes you are late will be deducted from your allotted exam time. If you arrive after any other student has left the examination for any reason, you will not be permitted to take the examination. For National Board subject examinations, students will be denied entrance once the examination has started without exception. Restroom break A proctor will escort you to and from the restroom and periodically check the restrooms for examination-related materials. Exam time continues while you are absent from your computer terminal. Restroom breaks will not be permitted during the approximate last 10 minutes of regularly scheduled exam times. You must sign out and back in at the Proctor s table to use the restroom.

5 Completion of examination If you complete the exam before the end of the allotted time, you may leave the testing area one at a time upon being dismissed by a proctor and turning in your scratch paper and pencil (or turning in your whiteboard and dry-erase pen). Do not linger in the hallways outside the test site. Restrooms adjacent to the exam room are for the use of students still taking the exam.
