1. Overview InSight Remote Site Monitoring, from IIANTECH and Apollo Solar, is a set of hardware and software components that allow monitoring of data from multiple remote solar sites, in near real -time. As a website, InSight works with any computer and any browser. InSight consists of on-site hardware which includes an intelligent system controller (System Controller) with its own firmware. The System Controller sends data to Apollo s server where it is st ored and then displayed as various web pages. The following is a description of the principal components and how a user can use InSight to provide excellent, timely, data regarding remote solar sites. 2. InSight System Monitoring Hardware The Monitoring Components consist of: Apollo System Controller Ethernet Hub Digital I/O Module Analog I/O Module GSM Modem Page 3 of 27
System Controller (ASC) Key Functions of the ASC: Get data from up to 16 T80s Monitor status of Battery Breaker, Load Breakers, Door Switch, MOVs, and PV Theft Detection Circuit Turn off Non-Essential Load Breaker and Essential Load Breaker if Battery Voltage gets too low, and turn them back on when Battery Voltage returns to higher levels Send system data to Apollo Server Save Events in local SD card and send to Server Digital Digital I/O Module The ASC communicates with the Digital I/O Module to monitor various inputs and activate various outputs. Ethernet Hub The Ethernet Hub connects the ASC to the GSM Modem and also allows for a local PC to be connected. GSM Modem The GSM Modem allows the ASC to communicate with the Server using the Internet. The GSM Modem requires a SIM card. It is essential to configure and test the GSM Modem before going to the site. Page 4 of 27
ASC Software The ASC software version has 4 simple screens: System View Test Digital Inputs/Outputs Test Communications Sun Test Irradiance readings ASC System View screen Test DIO screen Test Communications screen Sun Test screen NOTE: The Software Version and the Serial Number of your InSight site are displayed in the upper right corner of the screen. When working on a site, check to make sure these are correct. Each of the ASC screens is self explanatory. The ASC uses a touch screen: the buttons on the screen are activated with the touch of a finger or a pen or pencil. A short beep indicates that the button has been pressed. It is a good idea to return to the System screen after other tests are completed. Page 5 of 27
Apollo Server The software on the Apollo Server waits for the ASC to communicate. It then requests Charge Controller (T80) data and event information, which it stores in a database and displays to users through the InSight Remote Site Monitoring website. 3. Access InSight Site Monitoring In order to use the InSight website, you can get a URL (web page address like google.com) from your administrator, or use the Apollo live demo site. To use the Apollo live demo site: Use your browser to go to Camusat.ApolloSolar.com Enter the User Name " " (Please contact us iian@iian.kr) Enter the Password " " (Please contact us iian@iian.kr) Follow the instructions in this User Guide. We suggest going to the country of Madagascar, site 46, which is along the Southwest Coast of Madagascar. Note that on the Country map you can zoom in and drag the map to zoom in on the various sites. Apollo has the ability to brand sites with the name and logo of particular customers, whether they are operators, tower companies, or installers. This demo site is branded for a customer Camusat. If you are visiting the demo site then you can ignore the remaining instructions below, and proceed to section 4. Data Security For security reasons, the Site Monitoring Software has configured access permissions for different users (to ensure that not everyone is able to access it). Users must create their own log in credentials and then be given access permissions by an Administrator. Registration is a two-step process: 1) Fill out the User Registration form. The Register link is on the home page. User Name is the name you log in with. Display Name is the name that displays on the screen (once you have logged in) and is your display name in the Forum. Password: Set a password that is at least 7 characters long (numbers and/or letters). Note: When you click the Register button, you get an access denied message because you do not yet have permission to the site. Page 6 of 27
2. Request Access Rights. Send an to your Administrator who will notify you when your User Account has been activated. When you return to log in, you will be asked to complete your User Profile (required items marked in red). At any time, you can access and change your User Profile by clicking on your Display Name in the upper right corner and then choosing Edit Profile. You may select to edit your log in credentials, your password or your profile. 4. Country Map - Site selection Site selection is done from the top menu: Top menu > Site Monitoring Tab > World Map. When you choose a country, a map is displayed with all the site installations in that country. Page 7 of 27
Each location is marked by an icon. The color of the icon (red, yellow and green) reflects the status of that site. Mouse over the icon to see system details Click on the icon to visit the PV System Overview, or Site Status page, for that site (see next section). Page 8 of 27
5. PV System Overview - Site Monitoring web page (Site Status) The Site Status page provides a real-time overview of the system with links to charts, reports, and other information. A screenshot is shown below followed by a schematic drawing of the system and an explanation of each data point displayed. Page 9 of 27
