11 4. Slide the Accuvote onto the ballot box 4 5. Insert the power cord thru the back of the ballot box and plug it into the AccuVote 5 Plug the power cord into a surge protector plugged into a working electrical outlet Turn on the surge protector 6 6. Turn on the AccuVote
12 7. Lock the AccuVote into place 7
13 If the AccuVote does not run a zero tape when turned on Check power source(s) and cords, or 2. Check paper tape, or 3. Turn the machine off, wait 5 seconds, then turn the machine back on see installing paper tape and ribbon

16 Black ballot box There are 3 compartments for ballots in the ballot box: Ballots without write-in names Ballots with write-in names (general elections only) Auxiliary compartment Make sure all doors are locked
17 Ballot box potential issues Make sure the power cord is secure.oh, Oh, here I am!!! Where s the metal security plate? If the AccuVote does not go in all of the way: Check the pins for the deflector If bent, carefully bend them to the correct position
18 If the AccuVote is NOT working by 7:00 a.m USE the auxiliary compartment do NOT lay ballots on top of the ballot box 2. Make an entry on the incident log 3. Contact Washington County
19 AccuVote errors POWER FAIL check power cord, surge protector and wall outlet OVER VOTED RACE # The voter has over-voted in at least one race on the ballot COUNTED BALLOT JAMMED IN READER The ballot WAS counted, but jammed as it dropped into the ballot box, do NOT feed ballot thru again RETURNED BALLOT JAMMED IN READER The ballot has jammed and has NOT been counted by the AccuVote See troubleshooting guide located in your blue book AccuVote-OS will not accept a ballot after clearing a jam Turn unit off/on to reset
20 AccuVote stops working? Do NOT stop voting USE the auxiliary compartment until the AccuVote is operable Do NOT lay ballots on top of the ballot box Call Washington County or your Municipal Clerk Record time on incident log
21 Problem solved! Record the time on incident log Leave the ballots in the auxiliary compartment to tabulate thru the AccuVote when time permits
22 Opening the ballot box during voting hours M.R ,SUB.5 Two election judges of different political parties may open the ballot boxes on election day to straighten or remove the voted ballots but they shall not count or inspect the ballots..see election judge guide for further information regarding removing and storing ballots

25 6:00 a.m. Plug the AutoMark into an electrical outlet and turn it on Manuals and screen cleansing wipes are in the blue book
26 Plug the AutoMark into a working electrical outlet for the entire day do NOT run the AutoMark on battery power unless there is a power outage
27 AutoMark 1. Keep headset with ballot or head judge, Do NOT plug them in 2. Have a chair available, but NOT in front of the machine Ensure voter privacy 3. Insert memory card 4. Remove and secure keys
28 Installing an ink cartridge 1. Open the rear access door to view the holding unit for the ink cartridge 2. Open the new ink cartridge package 3. Insert new ink cartridge into AutoMARK VAT You will hear a click 4. Close the access door Manuals are in the blue book
29 Installing Memory Card 1. Verify the key switch is in the OFF position 2. Use the security key to open the security panel 3. Insert the memory card 4. Lock the security panel 5. Remove and secure the keys..manuals are in the blue book
30 closing the polls instructions are in the blue book USING THE ACCU-VOTE with TeleResults C L O S I N G THE POLLS Check to be sure the auxiliary (emergency) compartment is empty and that all absentee ballots have been processed. 2. Unlock and remove the printer cover 3. Open and lower the front door of the ballot box (top lock on front). While the results are transmitted, you will see a series of messages flashing in the message window, beginning with: Requesting Communication and ending with: Hanging up Phone The messages will flash so quickly you may not be able to read them. When the following message appears, turn the AccuVote OFF. Results Sent OK Turn Unit Off 2 7 VERY IMPORTANT Press and hold the YES and NO buttons at the same time. While continuously holding the buttons, insert the Ender Card. The Official Results Tape will print automatically. Ensure the tape is printing properly. VERY IMPORTANT Results Sent OK Turn Unit Off 1. If you did not get the above message, your upload failed. Check your instructions and try again, or call Washington County Elections immediately. 2. When you are finished transmitting results, return the AccuVote to the ballot box. 3. Tear off the Official Results Tape and have each Election Judge sign at the bottom. 3 8 Need another Copy? 1. When printing is finished, the Message Window asks, Need another copy? Press No. 2. Slide the AccuVote out and turn it off. 3. Immediately carry the AccuVote to the designated phone jack for transmitting the results. 4. Follow the instructions given for your precinct. Connect the phone cord into the opening on the back of the AccuVote. 1. Turn AccuVote ON. Press NO 2. Print the Second Results Tape by answering the questions in the Message Window as follows: LCD Display Send results by telephone? Send results by direct mode? Print Election Totals Report? Print Long Report Answer Press No Press No Press Yes Press Yes 3. When Message window asks Need another copy?, press Yes to print the Third Results Tape. 4 Plug the AccuVote power cord into an electrical outlet. Turn the AccuVote back on 9 Answer the questions on the Message window as follows: I LCD Display Send Results by Telephone Phone number Okay? Ready to Send Results Answer Press Yes Press Yes Press Yes If you press the wrong button, simply turn the unit OFF, then ON again 1. Turn AccuVote Off. 2. Unlock the door on the rear of the ballot box and remove voted ballots from the main compartment. Retrieve the Ender Card. 3. Remove write-in ballots from the center compartment (General Election only) and keep separate for tallying following procedures in your Washington County Election Reference Manual Y s s t c I A a

33 Closing the AutoMark Remove the memory card and place it in your canvas bag Lift under the front of the ballot feed tray and fold it inwards Open the lid and fold the touch screen monitor back into the recessed area Lower the lid over the touch screen monitor Lower the lid flap over the ballot feed tray Move the lid latches inwards to secure Unplug the power cord from the outlet Remove the power cord from the AutoMARK
