In this presentation we will be discussing the AutoMark or assistive voting equipment Some precincts will combine the AutoMark and the DS200 vote tabulator duties 1
Items that will be covered are: How to set-up the AutoMark Where to find supplies & instructions Certifying the AutoMark seal number Installing an ink cartridge Installing a memory card Securing the keys Where to set the headset What & where items are returned 2
This is a sample of a polling location set-up The AutoMark should be set up to ensure a voter s privacy 3
If you are scheduled to work in the morning; locate your DS200 & AutoMark Judge duty bag Your Judge duty bag will include: DS200 & AutoMark instructions Signs to be posted Paper tape for the DS200, and I voted stickers 4
An instruction sheet is located in the DS200 & AutoMark Judge bag & the blue book 5
Additional information regarding the AutoMark can be found in the blue book, these include; Voter s guide, Election day checklist & Poll workers guide 6
This ballot marking device sign which is located in the blue book can be posted above the AutoMark This will help eliminate confusion between the AutoMark & the DS200, vote tabulator 7
We recommend two election judges lift the machine out of the case Your AutoMark should be placed on a table which is ADA compliant 8
Ink cartridges for the AutoMark are provided Should you need to install or replace the cartridge; o open the rear access door 9
You will hear a click when installing the cartridge Close the access door once the cartridge has been installed 10
Should you need to install the memory card; Verify the key switch is in the off position Then open the security panel 11
Insert the memory card carefully so pins are not bent Once inserted, lock the security panel 12
When delivered to your precinct; The machine should have a seal over the security panel Verify the seal is not broken 13
On the official precinct certification form; Verify the seal numbers are the same Two election judges must sign the certification form Certification of the seal number, needs to be done when setting up the machine in the morning 14
The keys should never be left in the machine An equipment or head judge will need to secure the keys 15
Unless a voter requests to use the headset; They should NOT be plugged into the machine during the day Typically a voter will use their own headset Keep the headset with the equipment or head judge 16
Always have a chair available near the machine, but never placed directly in front of it. Voter s must have access to the machine The AutoMark screen should be placed in a way to ensure a voter s privacy 17
The power cord for the AutoMark is located in the AutoMark case Plug the cord into the AutoMark and into a working electrical outlet for the entire day When using a power strip, ensure it has been turned on 18
The AutoMark should not be run on battery power unless there is a power outage 19
To verify the AutoMark has been plugged into a working electrical outlet; Check the light in the front lower left corner The light should be green If the light is orange, you are running on battery power 20
Should you have any problems with the AutoMark that you are unable to resolve; Call your Municipal Clerk or Washington County Record the time and problem on your incident log Incident logs can be found in the DS200 & AutoMark Judge bag or the head judge blue book Return your completed incident logs to your head judge 21
Once the problem has been resolved record the time and resolution on the incident log 22
In this section we will be discussing how and where the AutoMark and supplies are returned after the polls close at 8:00 pm 23
Before closing the election, you will need to verify all ballots have been tabulated Check inside the AutoMark to ensure a ballot has not been left inside the machine Any ballots found inside the AutoMark should be counted using the DS200, vote tabulator 24
Locate your precinct certification form and complete the closing the polls section of the form Seal numbers from the AutoMark and DS200 need to be verified they are the same as they were when the polls opened After verifying the seal numbers, two election judges must sign the form Your precinct certification is returned in the canvas bag 25
The seal and memory card should be removed from the AutoMark All memory cards should be placed in the anti static pink bag The AutoMark seal should be affixed to the 3x5 card which is provided in your DS200 & AutoMark Judge duty bag The seal and memory cards are returned to Washington County after every election Place both the memory cards and seals in your canvas bag 26
Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet; then Remove the power cord from the AutoMark; and Place the cord back into the AutoMark case 27
Use your AutoMark guides for further instructions on closing the AutoMark. The guides can be found in the blue book 28
Two election judges should lift the machine off the table and place it back into the case 29
Attach the keys to the power cord to ensure they are not lost inside the case or misplaced In the AutoMark case; return the keys attached to the power cord; and the headset 30
For the Cities of Forest Lake, Oakdale and Woodbury, the AutoMark is always left in the precinct. We have a scheduled pick up for the following day Leave the AutoMark where it was located when you arrived at the precinct For all other Municipalities: return the AutoMark as you were directed by your Municipal Clerk Municipal Clerks will return the AutoMark to the County after General Elections only 31
Locate your DS200 & AutoMark Duty bag Return the items listed on the label back into the bag, which would include; The DS200 & AutoMark instructions, Signs, Unused I voted stickers; and Unused paper tape 32
In your canvas bag, return All memory cards, All seals The precinct certification form; & All completed incident logs 33
Election judges assigned as an equipment judge should know the following: The machines should be set-up and turned on at 6:00 am The light on the front of the machine will be green when it is running on electricity Two election judges should lift the machine onto a table which is ADA compliant You can find your AutoMark manuals in the blue book Your supplies & instructions are located in the judge duty bag or blue box The AutoMark seal number needs to be certified on the precinct certification form 34
Should you need to install an ink cartridge or the memory card, instructions are located in the blue book The AutoMark keys should be secured with the head or equipment judge The headset should NOT be plugged in unless needed Completed forms are returned in the canvas bag Memory cards & seals are returned in the canvas bag after every election Instructions & supplies are returned in your judge duty bag 35
The Cities of Forest Lake, Oakdale and Woodbury will always leave the AutoMark in the precinct to be picked up by Washington County All other Municipalities should see their clerk for instructions on returning the machines o City Clerks will return the machines to Washington County judge 36
