1 Hardware Announcement July 18, 2000 RS/6000 Clustered Server Attachment Features Connect Servers and Control Workstations Overview Two new cable features enable servers to be attached in a cluster. Specifically, these cables support the attachment of Enterprise Servers to the control workstation. These features include: Clustered Server Serial Port to Control Workstation Cable Clustered Server Operator Panel to Control Workstation Cable With these features, up to 16 RS/ Models S70, S7A, and S80 Enterprise Servers can be incorporated into a single cluster managed by the IBM Parallel Systems Support Programs (PSSP) for AIX Version 3.2, or later. Each server in the cluster must be attached to the control workstation via the cable features, as well as the user-supplied Ethernet LAN connections. Users must incorporate an RS/ Model F50 control workstation for cluster control, but the implementation does not require attachment to a 9076 SP frame. Technical Information Specified Operating Environment Hardware Requirements These cable features require: An RS/ S70, S7A, or S80 Enterprise Server A 7025-F50 Control Workstation Software Requirements These cable features require: AIX Version 4.3.3, or later. IBM PSSP for AIX Version 3.2, or later is required for each clustered server and the cluster control workstation. Limitations Clustered Servers Up to sixteen 7017-S70, S7A, and S80 Enterprise Servers may be incorporated into a single cluster managed by IBM Parallel Systems Support Programs for AIX. This implementation incorporates a 7025 Model F50 control workstation for cluster control but does not require attachment to a 9076 SP frame. Each server in the cluster must be attached to the control workstation via the following two cable features, as well as customer supplied Ethernet LAN connections: Clustered Server Serial Port to Control Workstation Cable (#3150) Clustered Server Control Panel to Control Workstation Cable (#3151) These cables may be ordered with either the 7017 clustered server or the control workstation, as desired. IBM Parallel Systems Support Programs for AIX, Version 3.2, or later is required for each 7017 server in the cluster. AIX Version 4.3.3, or later is required for each 7017 server in the cluster. A minimum of one Ethernet adapter is required for each 7017 server in the cluster. This adapter must be recognized by the clustered server as EN0 and must reside in slot #5 of the primary I/O drawer. The supported adapters for this system LAN are: For twisted-pair cable connection: -- 10/100 Ethernet 10BaseTX adapter (F/N 2968) MB AUI/RJ-45 Ethernet adapter (F/N 2987) For BNC cable connection: MB BNC/RJ-45 Ethernet adapter (F/N 2985). -- For more information, refer to the document RS/6000 SP Planning, Volume 1, Hardware and Physical Environment, (GA ). When utilized in a non-clustered environment, some I/O adapters, supported on the 7017 servers, are not supported in the clustered server environment and must be removed.
