How to configure your Futaba 10C Transmitter for a Full House Radian Pro
This figure shows the default switch assignments for a Mode 2 system as supplied by the factory. You can change many of the switch positions or functions by selecting a new position within the setting menu for the function you wish to move. (Example: move aileron dual rates to switch C to create triple rates. See p. 42 for details.) * Power LED blinks to indicate if any mix switches are activated. ** RF LED is blue when the transmission link is solid and the radio is transmitting properly.
Changing Modes (TX SETTING): Hold down MODE and END keys while turning on the transmitter to call TX SETTING menu. Stick Mode: The screen reads "STK-MODE". Change this to the correct mode. Note that this will NOT change the throttle and elevator ratchets, etc. Those are mechanical changes that must be done by a service center. Throttle Reverse: THR-REV is a special function that reverses the entire throttle control, including moving the trim functionality to the Stick s upper half. To use THR-REV, CURSOR DOWN to THR-REV and turn the DIAL to REV. Turn the transmitter off and back on. This change affects all models in the radio. Display language: can be selected the display language of the function name, etc. in each function menu. The screen reads "LANGUAGE". Change this to the desired language. TM-10 Area Selection (Frequency Range) (TM-10 module only): The TM-10 transmitter module has been designed to function in many countries. If you will be utilizing this module in a country other than France, please make sure that TM10-MODE is set to "GENERAL". If, however, this module will be utilized in France, it must be set to "FRANCE". [Note] While changing the above modes, the transmitter transmits in PPM mode even if the set-up mode is PCM mode and the RF power is turned off when using a TM-10 module.
After the TX SETTING screen is configured in the manner of the image above, turn the transmitter off and then turn it back on. You will next see the START UP screen, as seen to the right. The next steps will focus on choosing a MODEL NUMBER and NAME, and configuring your USER NAME to appear on the START UP screen. Select the MODEL NUMBER you wish to assign to the Radian Pro by turning the PUSH button. Use the CURSOR button to move down to the NAME field and input the name you wish by turning the PUSH button for each letter, and then CURSOR right in order to select the next letter. You can see that Radian Pro fits nicely. When you have completed selecting the MODEL NUMBER and NAME, press the END button to go back to the first BASIC MENU screen. Press and hold the MODE button for two seconds. This will take you to the first screen of the BASIC MENU. Use the cursor button to highlight MODEL, and then press on the PUSH button to enter the MODEL configuration screen. Once you are at the first BASIC MENU screen, press down on the CURSOR button to bring up the second BASIC MENU screen. Move your CURSOR down to the PARAMETER selection, and then press the PUSH button. Next, navigate to the REVERSE selection and press the PUSH button. Change the configuration so that it matches the image to the left. See page 38 on the 10C manual for more information. When complete, press the END button to get back to the first BASIC MENU screen.
On the PARAMETER screen, navigate to the TYPE field and change it to GLID(2A+2F) Glider (2 Ailerons 2 Flaps). Insure the MODULATION is set correctly, and ATL is set to ON. Refer to pages of the Futaba 10C manual for details describing these settings. Press the CURSOR button to go to the second PARAMETER screen. On this screen, navigate down to the USER NAME field and enter your USER NAME in the same manner used to select the MODEL NAME, earlier. When done, press the END button to get back to the second BASIC MENU screen. At this point, we are finished with the BASIC MENU configuration, and will now move to the ADVANCED SETINGS configuration by pressing once on the MODE button. Navigate to the AILE-DIFF selection and press the PUSH button. Once back at the fist ADVANCED MENU screen, navigate to the CAMBER FLAP selection and press the PUSH button. CAMBER FLAP: provides camber movement or trimming of flaperons as flaps. See page 86 of the 10C manual. For sailplanes, this function is also used as wing camber. The amount depends on the model, but usually a small amount (less than 10%) is preferred, since too much camber produces excess drag. Don t use more than about 1/16 travel up or down for glider camber. Some airfoils, such as the RG-15, should be flown with NO reflex/camber. Be sure to consult your model s manual for guidelines. Note that even though you may make FLAP-TRIM active while using AIL- DIFF, it will not have any effect. The ONLY function that allows control of the ailerons as flaps in the AIL-DIFF configuration is airbrake.) Aileron Differential (AILE-DIFF): allows twin aileron servos to provide differential down travel from up travel. I have configured my AILE-DIFF settings as per page 54 of the 10C manual, but you may choose to change your settings as you see fit. Press END to get back to the first ADVANCED MENU screen. I have configured my CAMBER FLAP as per page 86 of the 10C manual, and assigned it to knob VR(A) Flap Trim Control, so that it can be adjusted from 0% to 35%. Press END to go back to the previous screen.
The next option from the first ADVANCED MENU screen is the CAMBER MIX. Camber Mixing (CAMBER MIX)(GLID): This function adjusts the mixing rate of camber operation which operates the wing camber (ailerons and flaps) in the negative and positive directions. The aileron, flap, and elevator rates can also be adjusted independently and attitude changes caused by camber operation can be corrected. Also the operation reference point of camber control can be offset. (PRE) I have configured my CAMBER MIX as per page 85 of the 10C manual. I had to configure the down AILE and ELEV sections as negatives, in order to get them to travel in the needed direction not sure why. I have assigned the CAMBER MIX to right-side slider switch VR(E), with the center at 0%. Moving the slider switch down provides the incremental full-wing CAMBER, and moving the slider switch up provides the full-wing REFLEX. Once complete, press the END button to get back to the previous screen. The next option from the first ADVANCED MENU screen is the BUTTERFLY. BUTTERFLY (often called "CROW"- see GLID, page 80 of the 10C manual for details) simultaneously moves the flap, twin ailerons and elevator, and is usually used to make steep descents or to limit increases in airspeed in dives. Be sure you understand what dropping ailerons will do when in BUTTERFLY. Along with creating an enormous amount of drag (desirable for spot landings), this also creates "wash-in", a higher angle of attack where the ailerons are, and encourages tip stalling. Again, I have configured my CROW settings as per page 88 of the 10C manual, and assigned the CROW function to SWITCH A. With the switch in the up position, CROW is off. With the switch in the down position, CROW is turned on. The amount of movement is adjustable by pushing the left throttle stick up to increase the percentage amount of CROW that you want to apply - with the left stick all the way down being 0%. When complete, press END to get back to the first ADVANCE MENU screen. Press the CURSOR button to move to the second ADVANCE MENU screen. Navigate down to the AILE-FLAP selection and press the PUSH button. AILE-FLAP: This pre-programmed mix is used to create full span aileron action on a glider with 4 wing servos. This increases the roll rate and decreases induced drag. For normal flying, a value of about 50% is often used. For slope racing or F3B models in speed runs, you may wish to use a larger value approaching 100%. I have configured my AILE-FLAP settings as per page 82 in the 10C manual, and assigned the mix to the center position of SWITCH C. With the switch thrown into the center position, I have full span ailerons. With the switch in the up or down position, only the ailerons operate. When complete, press the END button to move back to the previous screen.
From the second ADVANCE MENU screen, navigate to the CONDITION selection and press the PUSH button. The only thing I have configured on this screen is to move the CHANNEL 3 default AIRBRAKE/THROTTLE selection to the VR(D) left side slider switch. This allows me to gradually increase the throttle by pushing the slider switch up. Down is motor off, and all the way up is full throttle. When complete, press the END button until you are back to the START UP screen and ENJOY! Many thanks to all of the users online, in the various forums who helped me understand the hardware and terms so that I could put this document together. -Quasi_Mojo
