This addition expands the midrange and enterprise function for managing connectivity on S/390 and z/os systems. Key prerequisites SAN32B-3 requires Fabric OS 5.2.1, or later and SAN64B-2 FICON support requires Fabric OS 5.2.0b, or later. Planned availability date May 4, 2007 Description The SAN32B-3 delivers 16, 24, or 32 auto-sensing 1, 2, or 4 Gbps Fibre Channel ports in a 1U form factor rack mountable SAN fabric switch. The SAN32B-3 comes with the first sixteen ports enabled in the base product and does not include Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) optical transceivers. Shortwave and longwave SFPs must be ordered separately to populate all enabled ports. The SAN32B-3 supports operation with SFP optical transceivers: Operation with 4 Gbps shortwave SFPs provides distances up to 150 meters. Operation with 4 Gbps longwave SFPs provides connection distances up to 4 or 10 kilometers. The base functions of the SAN32B-3 include Fibre Channel fabric services, Full Fabric, Fabric Watch, Advanced Zoning, and Web Tools. The SAN32B-3 offers: Industry-standard 4 Gbps non-blocking full-duplex ports with enhanced ISL Trunking, which help enable switch-to-switch bandwidth of up to 32 Gbps in a single trunk. Sixteen virtual channels that are designed to provide anti-starvation features to help optimize the performance of applications relying on the SAN. Dynamic Path Selection (DPS) that helps enhance trunking and minimize expenses by load balancing between equal-cost ISLs or trunks, making efficient use of the fabric. The SAN32B-3 is the successor to the first b-type 4 Gbit/sec Fibre Channel switch, the SAN32B-2 (2005-B32). The SAN32B-3 is designed to provide higher levels of reliability and availability through component reduction and integration of the power supply and fan into one IBM United States Announcement IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2

3 hot-swappable Field Replaceable Unit (FRU). It consumes up to 20 percent less power than the SAN32B-2 and generates less heat so it requires less cooling helping reduce total cost of ownership. Hot-swappable, redundant power supply/fan FRUs, and reduced quantity of components help enhance availability over the SAN32B-2. The depth and weight of the SAN32B-3 has been significantly reduced, enabling users to directly mount the switch in a rack without the use of a rail kit. The smaller footprint of the SAN32B-3 switch also eliminates the need for a rail kit. Two mounting ears (provided with each switch) is all that is required to attach this switch to a 19-inch rack. The rail kit is offered as an option and can be ordered separately (feature number 6050). The SAN32B-3 helps enable rapid SAN deployment with minimal configuration as well as integration into existing IT environments. A single code stream supports the entire IBM System Storage SAN b-type switch product line from the 16-port SAN16B-2 to the 384-port SAN256B. This helps support forward and backward compatibility among these SAN fabric switches and simplify maintenance and software upgrades. Hot code activation is designed to support easy upgrades and application uptime. The SAN32B-3 provides flexibility and advanced fabric services to help reduce cost and to address rapidly evolving storage requirements from a small "building-block" switch for a departmental fabric to a high-performance edge switch in larger core-to-edge SAN configurations. The SAN32B-3 is designed to be easily upgradeable. It provides the flexibility to scale on a "pay-as-you-grow" basis, at a low incremental cost with its Ports on Demand capability of 16 to 24 to 32 ports. Optional features for SAN32B-3 8 Port Activation (#7514): The base SAN32B-3 switch provides scalability with Ports on Demand; the first 16 ports are activated in the base product, with two additional increments of eight ports that can be enabled on demand. Additional port activation is available with this optional feature. This feature enables additional port activation for ports 16 to 23 (first eight port increment) or ports 24 to 31 (second eight port activation) in the SAN32B-3 switch. Note the first port is designated as port zero and the last port is designated as port thirty-one. Port activation features do not include fiber optic transceivers; however, all activated ports must be populated with SFPs. Extended Fabric Activation (#7553): Extended Fabric Activation extends SAN fabrics beyond the Fibre Channel standard 10 km by optimizing the internal switch buffers to help maintain performance on ISLs at distances up to 500 kilometers. Advanced Security Activation (#7554): Advanced Security Activation is designed to enable policy-based security mechanisms integrated within Fabric Operating System versions. To enable advanced security capabilities, all switches within the IBM SAN switch fabric must be configured with their respective Fabric Operating System (FOS) version (2.6, or later) before activating the Advanced Security feature license key. When activated across the IBM SAN switch fabric, the Advanced Security Activation feature is designed to help support the following security capabilities: Centralized security management (trusted switches) Fabric-wide security policies to control access Port-level access control Switch-level access control Management access controls (Telnet, SNMP, HTTP, API) Encryption of management data such as passwords Strong and non-reputable authentication between switches Performance Bundle (Plant) (#7555): Performance Bundle Activation is plant order only and supports both Enhanced Inter-Switch Link (ISL) Trunking and Performance Monitoring capabilities. Performance Monitoring helps identify end-to-end bandwidth usage by host/target pairs, and is designed to provide information for capacity planning. ISL Trunking is designed to enable Fibre Channel packets to be efficiently distributed across multiple Inter-Switch connections (links) between two SAN b-type fabric switches, while preserving in-order delivery. Both SAN b-type fabric switches must have ISL Trunking activated. Enhanced ISL Trunking is supported between two 4 Gbps capable models and enables Fibre Channel packets to be distributed across up to eight 4 Gbps capable ISLs for a combined bandwidth of up to 32 Gbps. When connecting the 4 Gbps capable SAN32B-3 model to legacy 2 Gbps capable b-type switch models, ISL Trunking is supported with link speeds operational at up to 2 Gbps and Fibre Channel packets, distributed across up to four ISLs, for a combined bandwidth of up to 8 Gbps. IBM United States Announcement IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 3

4 Performance Monitor (Field) (#7556): Performance Monitoring Activation is field order only and provides Performance Monitoring capability to help identify end-to-end bandwidth usage by host/target pairs and is designed to provide information for capacity planning. Trunking Activation (Field) (#7557): ISL Trunking Activation is field order only. Trunking is designed to enable Fibre Channel packets to be efficiently distributed across multiple Inter-Switch connections (links) between two SAN b-type fabric switches, while preserving in-order delivery. Both SAN b-type fabric switches must have ISL Trunking activated. Enhanced ISL Trunking is supported between SAN16B-2, SAN32B-2, SAN32B-3, SAN64B-2, SAN256B, or SAN18B-R 4 Gbps models and enables Fibre Channel packets to be distributed across up to eight 4 Gbps capable ISLs for a combined bandwidth of up to 32 Gbps (up to four 4 Gbps capable ISLs for a combined bandwidth of up to 16 Gbps when connected to the SAN16B-2 Model). When connecting the 4 Gbps capable models to legacy 2 Gbps capable b-type fabric switch models, ISL trunking is supported with link speeds operational at up to 2 Gbps and FC packets distributed across up to four ISLs for a combined bandwidth of up to 8 Gbps. Enhancements for the IBM System Storage SANB64-2 (2005-B64) B64 FICON with CUP Activation (#7560): FICON with CUP Activation is designed to provide in-band management of the supported SAN b-type switch and director products by System Automation for S/390 under z/os from IBM System z9, IBM eserver zseries, and S/390 G5/G6 servers. To enable in-band management on multiple switches and directors, each chassis must be configured with the appropriate FICON CUP feature.
