The fundamentals of DC, AC and threephase technology as well as processes in distribution networks are some of the subjects dealt with in the various courses. Typical processes that occur in the generation and distribution of electrical power receive particularly close attention and are reproduced in the experiments using safe extra-low voltages. Generation of energy from regenerative sources and processes utilised in distribution networks are among the topics covered by the various courses. Each of the courses consists of the training program, specific circuitry on one or more experiment cards and a browser (LabSoft) for the control, management and display of the training course. For that reason, this module can be used to simulate both on-grid and off-grid power plant operation. Furthermore, generators need effective protection against internal and external faults. This applies to power stations as well as to standby power supplies and wind generators. In addition to the basic experiments dealing with three-phase synchronous generators, the experiments involving the "EUG" module include manual and automatic synchronising circuits as well as experiments on the automatic power factor control (cos-phi control) and power control. Reactive power compensation in alternating voltage networks is designed to reduce undesirable reactive current and resulting reactive power at the consumers. In this process, capacitive loads are connected to all inductive loads via a central feed point. The opposing, capacitive reactive power arising here is ideally of the same magnitude as the installed, inductive reactive power. The servo machine test stand can be used to drive the asynchronous motor, thereby feeding active power into the three-phase network. Reactive power compensation in alternating voltage networks is designed to reduce undesirable reactive current and resultant reactive power of consumers.
