4 1. Introduction C-DAC, Bangalore, under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India initiated the Design and Development of systems for Industrial Automation. The Internet of Things group at C-DAC, Bangalore has been associated with the design and development of Electronics/Embedded Systems for niche technology areas including wireless sensor networks, Ubiquitous Computing, Internet of things, Industrial Automation Systems and IoT for Industries. The Internet of Things (IoT) group of C-DAC, Bangalore has developed Systems for Industrial Automation and the technology is available for transfer to manufacturing industries. C-DAC, Bangalore would like to invite competent industrial partners for commercialization of these systems through transfer of technology. 2. About C-DAC Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), is primarily an R &D institution established in March 1988, as a Scientific Society of the Ministry of Information Technology, Government of India. Over many years of consistent R&D efforts, C-DAC is today a recognized destination for multi-disciplinary Research Development and deployment of state-of-the-art technologies in Electronics and Information Technology. The broad canvas of C-DAC s Technology offerings range across several thematic areas such as High Performance Computing & Grid Computing, Ubiquitous Computing, Multilingual Computing, Professional Electronics including VLSI & Embedded Systems, Communications and Wireless Technologies, Software Technologies including Open Source Technologies, Cyber Security, Health Informatics, and Education & Training including e-learning. C-DAC has been in the forefront in the implementation of end-to-end solutions in various verticals of economic and social segments. The technologies developed by C-DAC have addressed key sectors such as Science and Engineering, Finance, Healthcare, Power, Steel, Agriculture, Cultural Heritage, Industrial controls, Broadcasting & Communications, Education and e-governance. 3. About Systems for Industrial Automation Automation System and automation and control systems are often used interchangeably for the technology area which deals with the supervision and control of various industrial equipment and processes. In a broader prospective the industrial automation/automation system includes sensors, data acquisition, actuators, process control, system supervision, control and coordination of multiple equipment, systems and processes. Traditionally the automation is achieved by various means including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic devices and computers, usually in combination. In general an electrical/electronic process control and automation systems such as SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition), DCS (Distributed Control System), PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) or PAC (Programmable Automation Controller) is used in various industries. Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) is a popular computer based industrial control system (ICS). The major function of SCADA is acquiring data from remote Web Content 4

5 devices (sensors) and providing overall control remotely from a SCADA Host software platform. Overall structure of a SCADA system may be divided into four distinct levels as follows. i. Field instrumentation ii. PLCs and / or RTUs iii. Communications networks iv. SCADA host software The functionality of a RTU and a PLC are often seems to be overlapping. So the selection between PLC or RTU is based on the deployment. The RTUs are used in wide geographic telemetry whereas the PLCs are suitable for local area controls. PLCs are generally programmed/configured using the ladder logic but the RTUs are programmed/configured with programming languages through the remote host computer. It is easier to program and modify using higher level programming languages. A programmable automation controller (PAC) is a device which integrates the functionality of a RTU/PLC and the host computer in a single Box. The PACs have become extremely popular in modern local control and automation systems. The industrial automation systems developed by CDAC Bangalore are mainly focused on implementation of user friendly hardware and software platform for data acquisition, supervisory control and automation of various processes. The products developed in this segment are PUSPAC: Portable Supervisory Control and Programmable Automation Controller PUSPAC-Sim: Companion Simulation Device The key features and Technical Details of the system have been provided as part of Annexure-II 4. Application Area This system can be used to get exposure on various aspects of Industrial Control/Automation systems including Data Acquisition, Communication, Process Monitoring and Control for researchers, students and enthusiasts. This can also be used for process control and automation in industries with a minimal upgradation in hardware as per the industry requirement. Technology Transfer 1) Document(s) for design and fabrication including High Level design, Low Level design with block schematic level explanation of the system, and interfacing details. 2) Bill of Materials of the total system 3) Source code of the software 4) Test plan and procedure 5) Guidelines for field trial and commissioning 6) Training 7) Handholding support for a period of 6 months 6. General terms and conditions i. An expert committee will scrutinize the applications for follow-up action. ii. The applicants may be called for a presentation regarding their strengths and business proposals. iii. All incidental expenditure incurred in preparation/ submission or presentation of the EoI shall be borne by the participating agency iv. Participation in this EoI does not guarantee any association with C-DAC unless notified by C-DAC in writing. v. C-DAC reserves the right of rejecting any offer without assigning reasons. vi. Last date for submission of EoI is 30 days from issue of the first advertisement. Any offer received after due date and time will not be accepted. vii. There is neither a business guarantee nor any commitment for funding support from C-DAC to the appointed/ empanelled agencies. viii. A Committee of experts constituted by C-DAC will assess capabilities and strengths of the industry before finalizing the technology partners. ix. The industry willing to take technology for commercial exploitation will be required to enter into a ToT agreement with C-DAC as per the terms and conditions approved by the competent authority in the DeitY in the prescribed format. 7. Who can apply? Public sector organizations Startup companies in Internet of Things Industries with products like home automation, agriculture etc. Industries with interest in Electronics or Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Small and medium scale industries involved in electronic production Agencies willing to take up the production of <Product Name> as per the ToT guideline agreement of C-DAC. 10 Annexure-II Technical Specification The industrial automation products developed by CDAC Bangalore offers a complete solution including data acquisition, communication, data logging, system control and simulation. There are basically two devices developed to provide this functionality. The main device PUSPAC (Portable Supervisory Unit and Programmable Automation Controller) can capture various digital and analog signals form sensors, store them, monitor them against the pre-set threshold, communicate with a remote system and also control the actuators. The companion device PUSPAC-SIM (Signal Simulator) is meant for generating and receiving various analog & digital signals to simulate the functionality of PUSPAC without using any real sensor or actuator. A combination of these two devices provides a suitable platform for the students and researchers to learn, experiment & evaluate various industrial automation protocols/applications.
