Purpose The purpose of this document is to clearly define MTM requirements for negative busbar shunts that provide connection points for substation electrical load metering and electrolysis mitigation and to ensure all future substation designs are compliant. 2. Scope The contents of this document is to be incorporated into all substation design works requiring the installation or replacement of negative busbar shunts. 3. Definitions and Responsibilities The following are to note and comply with the terms of this Design Practise Note; Substation Designers o To incorporate requirements into all new designs Project Managers o To ensure requirements are incorporated into all design scope of works. Electrical Network Staff Network Asset Managers Substation Design Reviewers Substation Design Approvers 5. References and Legislation Nil 6. Background Recent design and construction of new substations has seen a variety of different sizes and types of negative busbar shunts proposed for use. Scope of Works documentation does not address MTM s requirements for negative busbar shunt. This is unacceptable for ongoing maintenance and or replacement by Network Asset Management staff. 7. The Issue Substation staff has difficulties connecting testing equipment to non-standard negative busbar shunts. Substation staff is unable to provide replacement parts for non-standard negative busbar shunt. Design Practise Note has been developed to ensure standardisation of components being incorporated in Substation designs and for spares needed for maintenance purposes this 8. The Requirement All future substation design work is to incorporate the contents of this Design Practise note. Any variation to this requirement will require a signed waiver. 9. Type Approval Type Approval is not required where the design complies with this Design Practice note and complies with existing type approved equipment currently in service. 5 10. MTM Requirements As of the date of this document the following standards will apply; For a Single Rectifier Unit Substation of 3.0 MW or less. Continuous Rating 3000 A dc Shunt Ratio 150 mv for 3000 A dc (per rectifier) Accuracy 1% Physical Size and Holes as per Standard Drawing STD_E0107 (attached) Where a substation is to have more than one rectifier MTM shall be consulted for technical direction. 11.
