3 Huawei CIO FORUM October, Lisbon Portugal Innovation experts explore ICT challenges and trends at Huawei events in Lisbon Huawei hosted a trio of events over two days in Lisbon, Portugal. During the events innovation experts from a range of industries discussed the challenges and opportunities of emerging ICT trends in big data, the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing. Over 300 Chief Information Officers (CIO), business managers, and press members from nine Western European countries attended the Huawei Media Day, the Huawei CIO Forum and the Huawei Network Congress Europe (HNC) on 29 to 30 October, Key discussions revolved around megatrends in mobile, social, cloud and big data, which are transforming the business and technology landscape. The events also provided an opportunity to present Huawei s solutions, strategies and developments that will help address these challenges. Major announcements included details on the soon-tobe opened Huawei Enterprise ICT Solutions Open Lab in Munich, the newly launched OceanStor Flash Memory Strategy, and Huawei s commercial SDN-based enterprise network solution Agile Network 3.0. 7 Keynote Session Dr. Chou WU - VP & CTO Huawei Switch and Enterprise Communications Product Line Open and Convergent Agile IoT The Internet of Things (IoT) is the next megatrend in the IT industry. The growth of the number of devices connected to the internet is staggering, and will generate a massive amount of data. This data will need to be processed in real time. Huawei s approach to IoT is comprised of 1 interface, 2 accesses and 1 platform. Huawei built a LiteOS for IoT that is lightweight, fast and secure. LiteOS is open source and can be used by anyone. With its Agile SDN Network, (including IoT Gateways and Cloud Fabric) Huawei is the first to introduce the SDN architecture into IoT. The IoT platform is a joint effort with ecosystem partners and is already in use in power distribution, railways, smart metering In fact the number of applications of IoT is limitless.

8 Keynote Session Dr. Mike Heidrich Business Unit Manager, Industrial Communication, Fraunhofer Institute Embedded Systems and Communication Technology ESK, Munich Towards an IOT Communication Reference Architecture By 2020, there will be 25 billion connected devices, Gartner estimates. This brings a number of technical challenges such as standardization, security and privacy. Closely connected to IoT is the concept of Industry 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution driven by the digitization of supply chains and production systems. IoT is an integral part of Industry 4.0. For both IoT and Industry 4.0, a new reference architecture is needed for both vertical and horizontal integration, to ensure seamless communication and information processing. A number of standardization efforts are currently ongoing. To help promote the standardization, Fraunhofer Institute developed the Industrial Data Space a smart data management system that builds a network of trusted data.

9 Keynote Session Mr. Domingo Soares de Oliveira CEO S.L. Benfica IoT and Industry 4.0 Internet of Things and big data have different applications in several industries. Portugal s leading soccer club, Benfica, uses information technology intensively. The club in close cooperation with Huawei recently built a state-of-the art datacenter as the cornerstone of a connected club. The datacenter takes care of Wifi coverage in both the stadium and the training academy, access control, security and CCTV, interaction with the public and the management of the building. Benfica uses real-time analysis to calculate and mitigate risk. Big data is used to analyze video recordings of games and training sessions, to analyze sleep patterns of players and to find patterns in eating habits, training habits, Both the coach and the medical department go to great depth in this data, even using data from sensors in the players shoes!

10 Keynote Session Mr. Jeff Jiang Director, Huawei WEU IT Solution Huawei Cloud Strategy Openness and close cooperation with partners is the main focus of Huawei when it comes to cloud strategy. Huawei strives to build up a cloud ecosystem by adopting the `open philosophy, with a sharp focus on business cooperation as well as efforts in technology cooperation and talent development, to drive sector growth and achieve a win-win situation. Central to this strategy are a Cloud OS (FusionSphere), Big Data (FusionInsight) and a PaaS Platform (FusionStage) built on the collective strengths of Huawei and its business partners. The aim is to make both storage and compute much more simple for the customer. Huawei devotes a lot of time to talent development, training and certifying specialists. Huawei shares its knowledge with the ecosystem through open labs.

11 Keynote Session Mr. Korbinian Lehner Head of Managed Workplace Services / Mobile Enterprise Services, T-SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL GMBH The Cloud is now! - How Cloud connects the world We may not always notice it, but cloud computing is pervasive in our lives. Whether we go running, commute on public transport, check in and out of hotels we are somehow in contact with the cloud. Smart ticketing solutions, real-time traffic information, hotspot connectivity, digital retail, dynamic device management all of this is only possible through advanced cloud systems. T-Systems Open Telekom Cloud built in cooperation with Huawei is a cloud system that is both simple (with self-explaining look&feel, access via internet, use of OpenStack), secure (locally hosted under German data privacy laws) and affordable (usage-based pricing).

12 Keynote Session Mr. José Silva CIO, Whitestar Building Highly Reliable Data Center for Finance Services White Star is a Portuguese financial services company, managing performing, sub-performing and non-performing loans on behalf of blue chip clients and being the only Portuguese vehicle approved and supervised by Banco de Portugal and CMVM. CIO, in the financial services industry, needs to look at a number of emerging trends and see how they fit in with the long-term strategy of the company. Whitestar builds its third platform on four main pillars: social technologies, mobility, cloud services and big data. Big data is very promising, but not a silver bullet. Its impact will only emerge over time. Together with Huawei, Whitestar built a datacenter strategy with three datacenters in two locations. The systems architecture facilitates a smooth expansion for future needs.

13 Keynote Session Mr. Dong Wu VP of Huawei Global Networking Marketing & Solution Sales, Enterprise Busines Practice of IT Transformation Huawei is not only a developer and vendor of IT systems, the company is also an avid user of technology, servicing over 90,000 active mobile end-users, over 70 datacenters and 60 PB of data storage. Over the last few decades, Huawei s IT has evolved from fragmented systems to a decentralized, user-centric business enabler. Huawei s IT framework is geared to delivering enterprise operation efficiency and uses all modern technologies and methodologies like SaaS (with a light front-end and a heavy back-end), PaaS (Huawei App Engine) and big data and real-time computing to improve its core competencies. R&D and innovation is fully cloud-based, consisting of different clouds for design, testing, simulation, integration. All internal processes are also cloud-based for social and mobile collaboration.

Huawei wants to partner with innovation experts from industry to help them meet the challenges and seize the opportunities of ICT advancements for better connected enterprises for a better connected world. During Thursday s Media Day, participants were given a glimpse into one of Huawei s key tools for progressing cloud computing and IoT in Europe at the pre-launch of the Huawei Enterprise ICT Solutions Open Lab. The new Open Lab will aim to strengthen collaboration with European customers, partners and independent software vendors. It will make a key contribution to creating an ecosystem conducive to innovation together with customers and partners. Huawei s Agile Network 3.0, which will be a key tool for CIOs intent on ensuring agility within their enterprise, emerged as a key focus of discussion during Friday s Huawei Network Congress (HNC) sessions. Huawei s first-of-its-kind SDN capable Agile IoT Solution automates connections among a variety of objects, enabling them to communicate with each other freely. This is undoubtedly a growing market by June 2015, Huawei Agile Campus solutions were being used by more than 600 customers and had won nine coveted industry awards. Based on the strategy, Huawei envisages a full-scale flash revolution, as it works with partners within the industry chain to innovate flash controllers, media chips and enterprise storage systems.
