This includes a variety of different tasks. They include the examination and evaluation of cases of death, of possible errors in medical treatment, of biological DNA traces and much, much more. From the lab information system straight into the digital archive For the creation, capturing and processing of forensically relevant data and documents, the institute uses a special laboratory information system guaranteeing meticulous quality controls and a seamless documentation of all forensic processes. Once the documents associated with a job have been created in the laboratory information system, the data are prepared as printable documents. 2 Newsletter for windream end-users Page 2 Next to hardcopy documents, which are still legally necessary in many cases, the IT system of the institute also creates PDF documents, which are forwarded to the windream archive as electronic pendants of the hardcopies. The aim of this procedure is to speed up the process of accessing already archived electronic documents, allowing any desired information on a forensic process to be drawn from the digital windream archive at the push of one button. Quick availability of all archived information This is of course much faster and more convenient than browsing through stacks of hardcopy documents and archives, especially since information stored in the windream archive is also indexed via the windream-internal fulltext extraction. This function allows users to conveniently identify archived documents on the basis of text fragments or keywords and thus to retrieve them with little effort. In the context of the ever-increasing importance of digital data of all kinds, the question of how to manage these amounts of information has become a permanent issue in companies. To provide answers to this question, the Fraunhofer-Institut für Arbeitswirtschaft und Organisation (Fraunhofer institute for industrial engineering and organization), Fraunhofer IAO in short, will be hosting the conference Document and Workflow Management on May 23 and 24. This year, the well-renowned conference is celebrating its twenty-year anniversary. The conference will be held in the headquarters of the Fraunhofer society (IZS): Nobelstraße 12, Stuttgart. Solutions for practical use in companies Every year, the conference looks at the most recent developments and changes that affect the management of electronic data and documents in companies. Furthermore, the conference wants to present appropriate software solutions for companies and offer the chance to discuss current trends with experts. windream and the DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH will be there! We are especially looking forward to welcoming one of our customers, the DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (German Air Traffic Control) as a participant in the presentation program. The DFS, based in Langen, Hesse, has been successfully using the windream ECM system company-wide since 2011.

4 Newsletter for windream end-users Page 4 On Wednesday, May 23, Kai Roßner, Service Manager Collaboration at the DFS, will talk about windream in German Air Traffic Control as part of the presentation program. This is a great occasion for interested parties to gather first-hand information on the implementation of a complex ECM project. Beginning with the selection process and the decision for windream, selected examples for the use of windream will be presented. This will include the storage of relevant documents concerning purchases with a digital purchase file, as well as the windream integration into the DFS intranet. The presentation will end with a review and an outlook at future roll-outs. The presentation program will be complemented by an exhibition on both days; windream will be present here, too. At the windream stand, interested parties can gather information on current solutions for process and document management. Important note for windream administrators: windream Backup under Microsoft SQL Server We would like to alert windream administrators configuring, administering and saving a windream database as a Microsoft SQL Server installation to a particularity during the database backup. Please note the following: If a windream database based on an (older) SQL Server version 2005 is connected to SQL Server 2008 or higher, an NDF file will be created in the fulltext directory (FTDATA) during the next generation of fulltext. This NDF file belongs to the database and must always be saved. The file can usually be found in directory C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\FTData and is named ftrow_windreamft.ndf. This NDF file must be saved along with the database file windream.mdf and the transaction logfile windream.ldf. Only if this file is saved can a complete backup and a complete recovery of the database be guaranteed.

5 Newsletter for windream end-users Page 5 During a windream database backup in this scenario, it is therefore important that the backup contain the following files: windream.mdf windream.ldf ftrow_windreamft.ndf (name may vary, file under: Database > Properties > Files ). Further NDF files may exist (secondary data files). The file extension can be selected individually, and further extensions may exist, too. Important Note If the NDF file is not saved during the backup process, files windream.mdf and windream.ldf will be unable to connect in case of a database recovery. This would render the database files unusable! Creating a Windows shortcut to My windream Only some simple adjustments are required to create Windows shortcuts to the virtual views in My windream. This way, frequently used views on specific document stocks of the windream ECM system can be accessed with one mouse click.

6 Newsletter for windream end-users Page 6 My windream virtual views on windream documents In windream version 5.0 and higher, My windream allows the creation of individually selected document and folder groups of the windream ECM system. These virtual views can be configured in three different ways: as links from My windream to specific windream folders, as dynamic views, i.e. as result lists of a previously configured windream search, or as favorite lists of an individually compiled selection of documents. This allows a structured display of e.g. mails sorted according to sender, year and date of sending, or a display of customer documents sorted according to customer name, object type and much more. Creating a Windows shortcut to My windream To create a Windows shortcut to a virtual view in My windream (link from My windream, dynamic view, favorite list), just create a new shortcut in a location of your choice in Windows (need not be on the desktop). In the properties of the shortcut, make the following entries:» C:\Windows\explorer.exe /e,::{20d04fe0-3aea-1069-a2d b30309d}\::{beab12ff-8e45-4f77-88d4-7655d6eca61e}\wd- SERVER\Private\New Dynamic View The part in red writing, including ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D B30309D}\::{BEAB12FF- 8E45-4F77-88D4-7655D6ECA61E} is fixed and contains a reference to My windream. It must be entered in this form. The part in blue writing specifies the path to My windream and should be adjusted.

7 Newsletter for windream end-users Page 7 The Server name (in this case WD-SERVER ) must always be entered. There is no possibility of entering a server-independent path. Furthermore, it is important to enter the server name exactly, i.e. case sensitivity will be regarded.
