Those documents are created in PostScript and can complement virtually any InfoPrint Solutions production, cutsheet, or workgroup PostScript-enabled printer. And with the addition of PlanetPress Office or PlanetPress Production (a Windows server), documents can be routed to non-postscript printers. PlanetPress is a complete design tool for creating and modifying forms and mapping variable data. An easy-to-use graphic interface enables you to define form styles, add formatted text, bar codes, graphics/images, and select data, attach conditions, and create dynamic charts, graphs, messages, and logos. PlanetPress-designed templates can be downloaded to the target PostScript. This module allows you to download electronic forms to the PostScript printer's RAM, flash memory, or hard disk. Data can then be sent directly to the printer, where all text, graphics, and data are merged, providing ultimate throughput and minimizing network traffic. In order to create variable data documents you need a good document designer. To reduce production time and associated costs, the document designer must offer an intuitive interface, based on industry standards and perceptive menus. PlanetPress Design has always been recognized for its ease of use. It's even more true with Version 7. PlanetPress Design is included with the purchase of any of PlanetPress Suite software modules, which means you can have as many Designers as you want. Any document can be created with PlanetPress Design, from the most simple business form to highly complex financial statements with overflow. PlanetPress Design offers features that will answer all document design needs. When used with PlanetPress Office or PlanetPress Production, PlanetPress Design also allows users to apply workflow to their existing formatted PDFs or printed Windows documents, as well as enhance these formatted documents with bar codes, graphics and logos, page numbers, targeted marketing messages, and envelope inserter controls, adding value with no redesign of the original document. PlanetPress Printer Licenses A printer-based merge is where an intelligent template is merged with the data inside the printer. This is called printer centric processing (PCP). Printer centric processing continues to be the most efficient way to print variable data documents. PlanetPress documents can run inside the PostScript printer, which means you can work with data from almost any host system to produce print output without generating huge print files. These PlanetPress documents use the printer CPU and memory; a Printer License allows users to distribute printing power across a network leaving them to send just the variable data resulting in minimal bandwidth and maximum print performance. The minimum requirements for a PlanetPress Printer License are: PostScript Level 2, or higher 48 MB or RAM A PostScript addressable hard disc (preferred) PlanetPress Printer Licenses are perfect when the PlanetPress document can be printer centric and the data can be sent from a host application with a simple command to merge the data with the PlanetPress template. 4 PlanetPress Watch By combining a Printer License with PlanetPress Watch, users can make use of Internet and Windows connectivity to build workflow systems that can include data capture, manipulation, and distribution to a PlanetPress Licensed printer. Workflows can be scheduled to run at anytime or automated, and feature functionality such as sending s, updating database executing advanced scripts for comprehensive integration to almost any system. PlanetPress Watch Version 7 supports Vista and has a new look and feel. It now includes an easy-to-use Windows driver, which makes it very easy to extract data from almost any Windows application, allowing users to redesign the output and add personalized content as they see fit. PlanetPress Watch is the ideal complement to Printer Licenses as it can manage PlanetPress documents on the PC by downloading them to the printer as they are needed - saving the need of a printer hard disc. In addition, if a document requires access to a dynamic PC-based image resource, PlanetPress Watch can process the job on the PC before sending it to print. Combined with PlanetPress Printer Licenses, PlanetPress Watch is the ideal workflow tool when the host application cannot be changed or when data and image preprocessing, scheduling, manipulation, or workflow is required. PlanetPress Office Whilst PlanetPress Printer Licenses and PlanetPress Watch offer optimum variable data print and workflow opportunities for those users who have access to variable data, many users are happy with their current documents. However, they would like to have a general workflow and add enhancements, such as bar codes, promotional messages, graphics, and OMR bar codes for automatic envelope production. PlanetPress Office builds the power of PlanetPress Watch, offering more functionality and more features. PlanetPress Office contains a new document input module that allows users to apply workflow to their existing formatted PDFs or printed Windows documents. By examining the content of these formatted documents, PlanetPress Office can split, route, and rejoin documents to enable multiple document types to be commingled prior to printing and/or fulfillment. Additionally, users can enhance these formatted documents, using PlanetPress Design with bar codes, graphics and logos, page numbers, targeted marketing messages, and envelope inserter controls, adding value with no redesign of the original document. Finally, PlanetPress Office makes printing easier. All PlanetPress Office documents can be printed to any printer providing it has a Windows driver; a PlanetPress Printer License is only required when using PlanetPress Office for host-based data and printer centric processing. This means whether you are working with unformatted host data or preformatted documents, PlanetPress Office can provide you with the workflow and enhanced document print output that you need. PlanetPress Office is perfect for many smaller print jobs where you want the ability to enhance unformatted or preformatted documents and output them to any Windows printer where page-based paper handling is not required. PlanetPress Production PlanetPress Office is perfect for smaller print jobs where page-based paper handling is not required. Many print jobs are much larger and require page-based paper handling. 5 If the document can be printer centric, then a PlanetPress Printer License and PlanetPress Watch may be the best solution. However, if the job involves enhancing preformatted documents or other PC-based resources, then you need the comprehensive functionality offered in PlanetPress Production. PlanetPress Production combines the ability to work with unformatted and preformatted documents, as well as the ability to produce Optimised PostScript, enabling larger print jobs to be produced in the fastest possible time. Using PostScript means PlanetPress Production can control page-based printer features, such as tray or media selection, subset stapling, and other types of advanced finishing. PlanetPress Production is compatible with host data and PlanetPress Printer Licenses. It can also produce output to any printer using a Windows driver, but if your printers support PostScript, then PlanetPress Production can do better. It can print to any PostScript printer. PlanetPress Production is perfect where larger, more sophisticated print jobs are being produced and Optimised PostScript is needed to produce smaller files resulting in faster printing and better paper handling. PlanetPress Imaging PlanetPress Imaging allows users to generate PDF, TIFF, JPG, VDX, PDF/X, PDF/A, and AutoStore versions of variable data documents, or fax them automatically, and archive or index them. PlanetPress Imaging requires one of the Server solutions above to be installed and includes an unlimited license of the Search Tool to instantly query the archive database and retrieve single or multiple documents. The following are the key new features available with PlanetPress Suite Version 7: Document Input This feature allows PlanetPress Office and PlanetPress Production to capture and process fully composed documents in order to enrich and repurpose them. Its unique ability to extract text contents from the existing documents allows it to apply business rules to the existing document, whether to add or modify contents, apply finishing options, set distribution and archiving rules or split/concatenate existing jobs. The Document Input can process any ready-made PDF file or any print stream sent to the new Objectif Lune Printer Driver by any Windows application. PDF handling tools With native PDF creation (no PlanetPress Imaging License required), tasks to split and merge any PDF files, and workflow conditions based on PDF contents, PlanetPress Office, and PlanetPress Production offer true automated PDF workflow. In addition, PlanetPress Imaging now offers the industry-standard PDF/A, PDF/X, and AutoStore-compatible outputs at no extra charge. New Drag&Drop GUI Sporting a fresh new look, PlanetPress Suite applications are easy to learn and use. New categorized ribbons allow the end users to quickly locate tasks to perform. The drag and drop functionality has been extended to numerous common tasks so that users may now truly create and apply business rules, enhance and design documents at the click of a button. Multi-threaded PlanetPress Imaging Server PlanetPress Imaging has been upgraded to a fully multi-threaded production server. It is now able to process several jobs simultaneously, taking full advantage of the underlying hardware architecture. SOAP connectivity The existing SOAP connector has been redesigned to handle all types of complex applications, allowing PlanetPress Suite to communicate with just about any thirdparty application. In addition, all PlanetPress Suite workflow tools can now be configured as SOAP servers, allowing third-party applications, such as Web-based font ends, to submit jobs directly into PlanetPress Suite remotely. Vista/Server 2008 support PlanetPress Suite applications can now run on the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 platforms. With its new GUI, PlanetPress Suite now integrates smoothly with other Vista applications, greatly decreasing the end-user learning curve. Image Clipping PlanetPress Design allows any part of an image to be clipped in or out. Photographs and logos can now be used in whole or in part, without changing the quality of the original image. Clipping out parts of the images allows background elements to show through the clipped image. This ability is also fully integrated into the Document Input feature, allowing end-users to quickly clip-out portions of the original, fullycomposed document in order to replace them with new logos or text. PrintShop Web connector With this new connector, Objectif Lune's PrintShop Web can submit jobs to the PlanetPress Suite Workflow tools, allowing PrintShop Web jobs to take advantage of the advanced processing and distribution abilities of PlanetPress Suite. The feature also strongly reaffirms Objectif Lune's stated goal of tightly integrating all its product lines.
