1 Introduction This document contains a comprehensive set of best practices and standards for consistently and correctly using and displaying the QLogic brand. This introductory chapter provides information on the following: Corporate Identity Tagline Getting Help from Corporate Marketing on page 1-2 Corporate Identity Tagline Corporate identity is the image that we convey to our customers and the world. The QLogic corporate identity reflects our brand promise, vision, and personality. Our most identifiable mark is the QLogic corporate logo, the combination of the symbol and wordmark 1 displayed on our products, sales materials, documentation, business cards, and buildings. These are visual representations of the QLogic image, brand, and global presence in the marketplace. It is essential that we produce consistent quality, look and feel, and voice and tone or personality across all of our material. QLogic s tagline captures in a few words the spirit of our company: delivering high performance networking infrastructure and achieving at a very high level both as a company and individually. Tagline The Ultimate in Performance. 1 A wordmark is a standardized graphic representation of the name of a company, institution, or product name used for purposes of identification and branding. A wordmark is usually a distinct text-only typographic treatment, as can be found in the graphic identity of QLogic. QL F 1-1
1 Introduction Getting Help from Corporate Marketing Getting Help from Corporate Marketing The QLogic Corporate Marketing team stands ready to help you with any marketing communications project you have. We can provide assistance in the following areas: Program development Branding and messaging Creative direction Design and layout Graphics Copywriting Web programming Flash programming Printing Videotaping and post-production Audio recording and post-production (podcasts) 1-2 QL F
2 Using Logos This chapter provides usage guidelines for these graphics: The QLogic Logo Other Logos on page 2-8 The QLogic Logo Our Signature The QLogic logo is our principal corporate identifier and master brand. To maintain brand consistency, our logo requires consistent treatment, usage, and standards. We use this logo on ads, brochures, interoperability guides, case studies, webinars, white papers, data sheets, competitive briefs, technical briefs, fact sheets, Web pages, videos, presentations, technical guides, and more. This section covers the following information on using the QLogic logos: Our Signature Logo Mandates on page 2-2 Clear Space and Size Requirements on page 2-2 Logo Examples on page 2-4 Approved Colors on page 2-5 Correct and Incorrect Usage on page 2-6 The term signature refers to the combination of the logotype and symbol. The word signature is also synonymous with the word logo. The QLogic signature contains two elements: logotype and symbol, and these two elements are usually accompanied by the tagline, The Ultimate in Performance. The interlocking rings represent networking storage, with QLogic at the center of that system. The QLogic signature must always be given adequate space, for prominence and easy identification, as well as adequate contrast, for clarity and readability. QL F 2-1
2Using Logos The QLogic Logo Symbol Signature (logo) Logotype Tagline Logo Mandates Figure 2-1 Identifying Parts of the QLogic Logo The elements of the signature have been carefully designed and are not a standard typeface or font. Do not modify or re-create the symbol, logotype, or tagline (see Correct and Incorrect Usage on page 2-6). To maintain consistency and integrity, always use original electronic artwork supplied by Corporate Marketing. Clear Space and Size Requirements Clearance Requirements This section covers the clearance and size requirements for the QLogic logo. The QLogic signature must always appear in a clean and uncluttered layout. Maintain a minimum clearance around the signature equaling the height of the letter Q, as shown in Figure QL F
2Using Logos The QLogic Logo Q -height Figure 2-2 Clearance Requirements In addition, adhere to the following requirements: Whenever possible, use more than the required clear space. Keep the area around and over the signature clear of all type, photos, illustrations, or other graphic elements. The signature may not appear on a patterned or complex background. Any requested exceptions to the clear space and size guidelines must be approved by Corporate Marketing. Size Requirements The minimum size requirement for logo usage is 1 (one inch) wide. 1 Figure 2-3 QLogic Logo Shown in Minimum Width Size QL F 2-3
2Using Logos The QLogic Logo Logo Examples Vertical Logo The vertical logo is the officially recognized logo for QLogic and is to be used for all purposes unless a horizontal logo is more appropriate (see Horizontal Logo). Figure 2-4 shows the QLogic vertical logo in both the standard QLogic blue color (PMS 661 Blue) and in black. PMS 661 Blue Black Figure 2-4 QLogic Vertical Logos in QLogic Blue and Black Figure 2-5 shows the vertical logo in reversed colors: white on blue. Figure 2-5 QLogic Vertical Logo in White on Blue (Reversed Colors) 2-4 QL F
2Using Logos The QLogic Logo Horizontal Logo The horizontal logo is used primarily on building signage and event signage. Other acceptable uses include: Promotional merchandise (when the vertical logo is not feasible) Any use where the vertical and justified logos are not feasible All uses must be approved by Corporate Marketing. Figure 2-6 shows examples of the horizontal logo. Approved Colors Figure 2-6 QLogic Horizontal Logos The QLogic logo can appear in the following colors: QLogic Blue PANTONE 661 (PMS 661) Preferably on a white or an off-white background. Black Preferably on a white or an off-white background. White Only on a solid QLogic Blue background color (see example shown in Figure 2-5). For most applications, the QLogic Blue logo should be used. When product processes prevent the use of QLogic Blue, the black-and-white version of the logotype should be used. QL F 2-5
2Using Logos The QLogic Logo Correct and Incorrect Usage Only one format (vertical, justified, or horizontal) may be used in the same document or application. The QLogic signature, color palette, and typography are the primary elements of the brand identity. To maximize the opportunity for visual recall, apply QLogic logos consistently as specified in these guidelines, and in the electronic artwork provided by Corporate Marketing. Ensure that you do not violate these usage restrictions: Never place the logotype above the symbol. Never use the symbol without the logotype. Never use colors other than PMS 661, white, or black. Never skew or distort the symbol or logotype. Never place the symbol and logotype on a colored background (either use the reverse white-on-blue version or place on a white background). Never replace the logotype with any other font. Figure 2-7 shows a few examples of incorrect usage. The incorrect usage examples apply to all three versions of the logo. 2-6 QL F
