5 Staff Involved SAT.1 Bottom-up Big Bang At SAT.1, a small group of system architects designed the workflows and the content management system. Upon introduction, many user groups initially rejected the system as unusable. 7 Staff Involved ZDF Centralized Step-by-Step After introducing an Avid Newsroom environment, a deep storage for the OMF files became required. The system design is coordinated by the IT department. An initial prototype shall prove the usability of the design. In a pilot installation, it will be used daily by about 30 users. Roll-out to about 4000 registered users will take about 12 months. 8 Staff Involved BBC Decntralized Co-ordinated Evolution After initial pressure from innovative producers, the BBC set up to make Framework Agreements with three preferred suppliers for content management systems. Decisions about individual projects will be made by Sites the BBC s programme production units, based on their respective requirements. A project supervisory board, a common meta-data structure (BBC s SMEF ) and pressure on suppliers to provide open interfaces shall ensure the compatibility of the different systems deployed by the production units.
