How to register for exams via BASIS

1 State p.1/5 This guide explains how you can register for module examinations offered by the department of Mathematics using the BASIS interface. This applies to lecture course examinations, graduate seminars and practical teaching courses. Online registration is possible only within the respective registration periods. The registration periods are announced every semester in due time per e mail to all students and on our website bonn.de/study/master/calendar. Log In On the BASIS homepage ( bonn.de/), you can change the language to English using the union jack symbol in the upper right corner. We apologise for the partial translation and bad English. Use the link login to access the login fields. Please use your HRZ username (issued upon registration at the university) and the corresponding HRZ password. NOTE: Maintainance work may be performed from time to time, particularly in the early morning hours or on weekends. In these cases it is impossible to login to the system. Typically the system will be fully functional again by 9.00h a.m. Please make sure not to wait until the last day of the registration period, so that we can react in due time if an error should occur. My Functions Upon successfull login, you will see a choice of functions. The menu's design may change, but the menu itself will always contain the documented functions. To register for exams and problem sessions, the functions Apply for Exams and Info on Exams (internships) are relevant. We will now give you step by step instructions on how to register. Apply for Exams After clicking on Apply for Exams there will be a prompt titled Important. Please read carefully!. You are required to check I accept and click on Next in order to proceed. You will be presented the following view *): *) The number at the end of the study programme (here 2007 ) denotes the year of the examination regulations which are valid for you. At the moment this is 2012.

2 State p.2/5 You can navigate by clicking on the respective (sub )categories to the desired exam: After selecting Prüfung anmelden (= register for exam, written in green) there will be another prompt which has to be confirmed by clicking Ja (yes) in order to definitely register for the exam. Note the rightmost column Vorgang (= activity) which contains the information which operation you are about to confirm (Anmeldung = registration, Rücknahme = withdrawal) The next screen contains a confirmation of your registration: Upon successful registration, you will also receive a confirmation via e mail. If something went wrong, you will instead be presented with an error message (for example, if you try to register for an exam but have not yet registered for the master examination first). Sie haben während dieser Sitzung am noch keine Prüfung an oder abgemeldet translates to: During this session on you have not registered/deregistered for any exams.

3 State p.3/5 More detailed information on the modules offered by the department of Mathematics can be found on our website bonn.de/study/master/examinations. IMPORTANT: As a Mathematics student, please disregard the function Registration / Unregistration of Lectures. Only the function Apply for Exams is needed to register for module examinations. Registrations for graduate course modules with problem sessions are conditional to the successful participation in the problem sessions, which is the precondition for being admitted to the module examination. Therefore, after registration for a lecture course with problem sessions, the system will generate the registration for the problem sessions overnight (!), if they have not been passed already in some earlier term. Please do not forget to check on the day following your registration for a lecture course exam, if the registration for the problem sessions can be seen at Info on exams. To register for further exams, please click the Continue registration button. You will see the module tree once more and can repeat the registration procedure for more exams. This is also possible later after a new login and navigating to the same location in the tree. If you wish to deregister from a previously registered exam navigate to the respective exam in the module tree and click on Prüfungsanmeldung stornieren (= cancel registration, written in red). Again, you will have to confirm the deregistration at the following prompt:

4 State p.4/5 Note that the Vorgang (=activity) column now lists Rücknahme (=withdrawal). After clicking Ja you will be presented the confirmation screen again: The tree view (e.g. after clicking on Continue registration) will have changed to: During the registration period you may register for and deregister from exams as often as you like. Note that at the end of the registration period, the current registration status will be fixed.

5 State p.5/5 Info on Exams (internships) Choose the function Info on Exams (internships) and by clicking on Degree 45 Master of Science you will get a menu of all registered Master programmes. You can click on the info Button next to the specific Master programme to access the list of all registered exams in this programme: The attribute Es fehlen Vorleistungen means that you still have to complete the problem sessions successfully to be admitted (zugelassen) to the module examination. As soon as the teacher graded your problem sessions as "passed", this attribute will be changed to Ja for the corresponding examination. The problem sessions will then be no longer listed under Info on Exams (internship), but can instead be found under Exam Extract. By clicking on Selection you can access the previous page.
