1 Mastercam 2020 Chapter 13 Spinning Top SOLIDWORKS 19 to Mastercam 2020 A. Open File in Mastercam Step 1. If necessary, save your Handle and Flywheel parts file in SOLIDWORKS. Step 2. In Mastercam 2020, click File Menu > Open. Step 3. In the Open dialog box set Files of type to SOLIDWORKS Files, navigate to you Skyhook folder, select your HANDLE file and click OK, Fig. 1. Step 4. Change to the Isometric View. Right click in the graphics window and click. B. Confirm Inch Units. Step 1. Confirm in the bottom right corner of the display the units are Inch, Fig. 2. C. Save Your File. Step 1. Save As (Ctrl-Shift-S). Fig. 1 Tip: If SOLIDWORKS file will not open in Mastercam, save your SOLIDWORKS file as a Parasolid Binary (*.x_b), then open in Mastercam as Parasolid Binary file. Step 2. 2 D. Rotate Body Around Axes. Step 1. Confirm CPLANE is Top in Status bar at bottom of the graphics window, Fig 3. Fig. 3 Step 2. On the Transform tab click Rotate. Step 3. Click the solid body to select it and click End Selection (ENTER), Fig 4. Solid body Step 4. In the Rotate dialog box: Fig. 5 Select Move Number 1 Angle 180 Click OK and Create New Operation. Step 5. 3 E. Merge Flywheel Part. Step 1. Confirm CPLANE is Front in Status bar at bottom of the graphics window, Fig 10. Fig. 10 Step 2. Click File Menu > Merge. Step 3. Select your FLYWHEEL part file and click Open, Fig. 11. Step 4. In the Merge Pattern function panel: Under Position, Fig. 12 Click Select button Fig. 11 Press spacebar to activate Fast Point, Fig 13. Key-in -4, -.375, press ENTER, Fig 14. Fig. 13 into the Fast Point field and Click OK. Step 5. Right click the graphics window and click Fit (Alt-F1). Step 6. Save (Ctrl-S). 4 F. Create Bounding Box. Step 1. Click CPLANE in Status bar and click Top from the menu, Fig 15. Step 2. On the Wireframe tab click Bounding Box. Step 3. Click both solid bodies to select both or use Ctrl-A to select all and click End Selection (ENTER), Fig. 16. Fig. 15 Step 4. In Bounding Box function panel set: under Size, Fig. 17 X 7.5 Y 5.5 Z should be set at.75 Create Geometry Lines and arcs Click OK. 5 G. Move to Origin. Step 1. Display the Origin. Use F9 to show axes, Fig. 19. Step 2. On the Transform tab click Move to Origin. Step 3. Click top left corner of bounding box, Fig. 19. Step 4. Right click the graphics window and click Fit (Alt-F1). Step 5. Right click the graphics window and click Clear Colors. Step 6. Confirm new position of Origin, Fig. 20. Step 7. Toggle axes off. 6 H. Create Chain Boundary. Step 1. Right click in the graphics window and on the Mini Toolbar click Wireframe Color drop down arrow and select red, Fig. 21. Fig. 21 Step 2. On the Wireframe tab click Silhouette Boundary. Step 3. Click both solid bodies to select both and click End Selection (ENTER). Step 4. In Silhouette Boundary function panel: Check Arc fit, Fig. 22. 7 I. Machine Type and Stock Setup. Step 1. If necessary, display Toolpaths Manager. On the View tab click (Alt-O). Step 2. If Machine Group is not displayed in the Toolpaths Manager on the Machine tab, click Mill > Default from the menu, Fig. 24. Fig. 24 Step 3. Expand Properties (click +) in Toolpaths Manager and click Stock setup in Toolpaths Manager, Fig. 24. Step 4. Confirm Stock Plane is Top, Fig. 25. Step 5. Confirm Display check box is checked. Step 6. Click the right front top corner of the red stock to move the origin, Fig. 25. After you click corner the arrow will point to corner. Step 7. Click All Entities button in the Stock Setup. Step 8. Confirm X-Y-Z dimensions X 7.5 Y 5.5 Z.75. Step 9. Confirm Stock Origin coordinates are: X 0 Y 0 Z 0. Click corner to move arrow Fig. 25 Stock Step 10. 8 J. Circle Mill Toolpath. Step 1. On the Toolpaths tab in the 2D group click Expand gallery button and click Circle Mill, Fig. 27. Fig. 27 Step 2. Under Features in Toolpath Hole Defintion dialog box, Fig. 28, click edge of hole in Flywheel and cylindrical inside solid edge of hole in Handle, Fig. 29. 15 L. Contour Toolpath with Tabs. Step 1. On the Toolpaths tab in the 2D group click Contour. If necessary, click Expand gallery button and click Contour. Step 2. Select Wireframe Fig. 45. and CPlane in the Chaining dialog box, Step 3. Under Selection Method click Chain. Step 4. Click red boundary of Flywheel for Chain 1, Fig. 46. The chain arrow should point clockwise around the chain. If the chaining directions arrow is pointing in the opposite direction - click Reverse, Fig. 45. If you select the wrong entity, click Unselect. Step 5. Click red boundary of Handle for Chain 2, Fig. 46. The chain arrow should point clockwise around the chain. If the chaining directions arrow is pointing in the opposite direction - click Reverse, Fig. 45. Step 6. Click the OK button Chain 2 arrow clockwise in the Chaining dialog box.
