TouchPoints instructions Thank you very much for agreeing to take part in the Ipsos MORI TouchPoints study. Full instructions on this research can be found in this document. Only the person who agreed on the telephone to take part in the survey should complete the diary and questionnaire. 2 1 GETTING STARTED You should have received an SMS message (text) on your phone asking you to access a link and download the TouchPoints app via an internet connection. If you have not received this SMS message, please contact us using the contact details at the bottom of this page. If you have received the message please follow the instructions to download the app and contact us if any problems. To download the app ensure you are connected to Wi-Fi or have a 3G/4G signal 2.1 DIARY SETUP FOR iphone When you set up the app, the diary will start the next day. 1. You will receive a text message containing a link to download the app. 2. Downloading Touchpoints screen will appear in the Safari browser. After reading the text on this page, click on Download TouchPoints. 3. (If you get the message Open this page in itunes, press Cancel, for this option). 4. Click on Download TouchPoints and then press Install. 7. A notification labelled Untrusted Enterprise Developer will be shown. We assure you that the App can be trusted. This won t allow unauthorised software to be used on your device and will only give permission to the TouchPoints app. It is required since the app used is private and unavailable on the App Store. 8. Select Cancel and go into Settings > General > Profile & Device Management At this point, or soon after, you will receive a text thanking you for registering and saying that the diary will start tomorrow. It s important to carry on with the next stages of the set up to make sure you are ready. 11. Go back into the TouchPoints app and you will then be asked if TouchPoints can send you notifications. Select Allow. 5. Once TouchPoints has installed, it will appear on your home screen and looks like this. You will need to go back to the home screen to check if the app is installed. 6. Once downloaded, click on the TouchPoints app. 9. Click on REALITYMINE LIMITED 10. Press Trust REALITYMINE LIMITED and then tap Trust. TERMS & CONDITIONS / PRIVACY POLICY 12. It may take a few moments for the app to configure. You will then view a screen with Terms & Conditions followed by a screen with Privacy Policy. Please read through these by scrolling down to the bottom of the screens. If you are happy with everything, please tap Accept at the bottom of both screens. 2

3 2.1 DIARY SETUP FOR iphone DIARY REMINDERS 13. You will then see this Diary Reminders screen 15. Select Set, scroll up/down to choose the time for when you usually wake up and go to sleep, tap on Done and then Next located bottom right. Once complete, select Save at the bottom of the screen. You are asked these questions so that the app can send you a diary reminder one hour after you normally wake up and two hours before you normally go to sleep. If 24 hour clock is being used - 7am is 07:00 and 7pm will be 19: Press Next and you will see a screen asking you what time you normally wake up and then one asking you what time you normally go to sleep. If you are NOT having your phone usage monitored SKIP to the Main Menu (Section 3, Page 6). If you have agreed to have your device usage monitored, please consult the instructions below, if not continue to the next page. PHONE USAGE BACKGROUND APP 19. At this screen, select Install 16. If you have agreed for measurement of your phone usage in the background over the 7 days, you will be asked to set up a VPN/Proxy on-screen. 22. Check whether the VPN is connected on the Settings > General screen. 17. Select Set up VPN / Proxy and a page will open to install the profile. Select Allow. 20. Either use your TouchID or passcode to proceed. You will see the screen below. Press Install again. 23. If it is not connected, open the VPN page and change the status to Connected. You will see the VPN sign in the status bar on the top of the screen when is connected. 18. After this you will be taken into Settings. 21. Select Done, if you have been successful, you will see Profile Installed at the top of the screen. 3

4 2.1 DIARY SETUP FOR iphone Before opening the TouchPoints diary app, check the time on your phone is correct (in the top right corner). If it is incorrect, please set it to the correct time or contact the helpline for help. You will then see a screen that says Downloading Surveys. When the download is complete, the screen will show as Your first diary entry will be <day of week>/<00.00am 00.30am (Day 1 of 7). SKIP to the Main Menu (Section 3 on Page 6). Your diary will start for you the following day! The first time slot to fill in will be the one starting at midnight. 2.2 DIARY SETUP FOR ANDROID 1. You will receive a text message containing a link to download the app. To download the app on an Android phone, select the link in the text message. You will see a screen asking if you would like to download the TouchPoints app. 5. In some cases you will need to, enter the username from the SMS message only. This is your unique username; for example: t12345u@tp.uk. 8. After agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, you will then see the Welcome screen. Press Next and you will now see the Set Up Guide. Install VPN and Accessibility Permissions will only appear if you have agreed to have your phone monitored. Press Next. 2. Tap Install to start the installation process. 3. Once the app is installed, open it (from the app store or the home screen) by selecting Open. 4. The TouchPoints app will now take a moment to configure. 6. However, in general you should be presented next with the Terms and Conditions. TERMS & CONDITIONS / PRIVACY POLICY 7. Read the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy and tap Accept to continue.. If any concerns about anything, please call us on our helpline. SLEEP SET UP / REMINDERS 9. A Diary Reminders screen will be then be shown. This will explain that you will receive two diary reminder notifications each day. Press Next. 4

5 2.2 DIARY SETUP FOR ANDROID 10. You will then be asked to set the time you usually wake up and go to sleep allowing the app to set appropriate times to remind you to fill in the diary. Press Next You may now be asked for your permission to access photos, media and files on your device. This is only so that the app can write and read required data, such as how the app is performing. You must grant this permission in order to continue. 11. Select Set, scroll up/down to choose the time for when you usually wake up and go to sleep, Tap on Set and then Next located bottom right. Once complete, select Done at the bottom of the screen. If 24 hour clock is being used - 7am is 07:00 and 7pm will be 19: The Set Up Guide will now appear again. You should click on Next. The app does not actually access media, photos or personal files, on your device. Please refer to your Privacy Policy for further information on what the app does and does not collect If you are NOT having your phone usage monitored, you will now see a screen telling you that Set Up is complete. Please skip to the Main Menu (Section 3, Page 6). If you ARE having your phone usage monitored continue on to the end of this section If you have agreed to have your device usage monitored, please consult the instructions below, if not continue to the next page. PHONE USAGE BACKGROUND APP 13. You will be asked Enable Accessibility and Connect to VPN. You will see these steps in the Set Up Guide. 15. On the VPN connection screen, press OK. You will then return to the Set Up Guide. Press Next to move onto Accessibility Services 17. Slide this to On and Click OK on the pop up pictured in the following column. It is essential that you complete this step in order to qualify for your shopping vouchers for this part of the research. 14. You will be asked to install the VPN. Pressing Next you will see the below request appear. 16. Then it is time to Enable Accessibility, scroll down to Services and click on TouchPoints. Enabling accessibility allows us to monitor which apps / websites are being used. 18. Return to the TouchPoints app and open it. You will once again come to the Set Up Guide. Press next to complete the process! Before opening the TouchPoints diary app, please check the time on your phone is correct (in the top right corner). If it is incorrect, please set it to the correct time or contact the helpline for help. Your diary will start for you the following day! The first time slot to fill in will be the one starting at midnight. 5

6 3 MAIN MENU You may access the main menu screen within the app by tapping the top left corner. Home: this will take you to the home screen. FAQs: refer to these if any questions. Tap on the questions and answers will appear underneath. Settings: this will allow times for daily reminders to be adjusted. Help: Here you will find our contact details and can call or us by pressing the Call or button. You should not need the Support Info button. About: this contains the Terms and Conditions / Privacy Policy for you to access and read. 4 PRACTICE DIARY Do practise the diary before starting, to give an accurate feel for completing your entries the day after. On the TouchPoints home screen select Continue in the box stating TouchPoints study. Select the Practice button at the bottom of the screen, to take you to the next screen. Select Practice which will take you into a practice diary. Select at least one option to move on from that screen. Tap on the option box to make a selection; and a tick sign will be visible on the right side. Once the practice and real diary start, each 30 minutes time slot of the day will be located at the top of the screen. Some lists are longer depending on screen size and will be indicated with an arrow sign. Scroll down to see the full list. 6

7 5 THE DIARY The first time slot in your diary will be midnight to half past midnight. If you are asleep until, for example 7.00am, you will be able to fill in your sleep as a single block of time after you wake up. Your diary is split into 30 minute timeslots over a 7 day period. If fully up to date, your status screen will show No outstanding entries, until your next time slot. When there is at least one entry to fill in, the screen will say Diary Entries to Complete. The message Unable to Upload Data means that the diary is being filled offline, i.e. there is no signal/connection. The entries will be submitted the next time your phone connects. Remember that your diary starts at midnight. A common error is to fill in the first timeslot as if it started at midday. If you fall behind, check carefully, the time and day the next time slot is referring to, particularly whether it is morning or evening. If you prefer to start again, just give us a call! WHAT QUESTIONS WILL I BE ASKED? 1) Recording location Select one option and choose the location you were in for the majority of the 30 minutes. 2) Recording Sleep Enter the time you slept until in your entry by adjusting the time on the clock and selecting Next to continue. Please select the time very carefully to be sure you do not mix up morning and evening times. If the time on your phone is set for the 24 hour clock, when you see 10:00 this will be 10AM in the morning. 10PM in the evenings would be displayed as 22:00. You can change to AM/PM settings by going to Settings\General (Management)\Date\time and switching off 24-Hour time. if this makes the time clearer for you. If recording sleep for long periods (e.g. more than 12 hours) please or call to inform us as a diary with too much sleep may be rejected and not eligible for shopping vouchers. You will see a warning on the screen if you have entered more than 12 hours of sleep at a time. If you contact us, we may be able to take account of exceptional circumstances. 3) Recording Activities Every time slot will have identical questions to understand what you have been doing and to track differences. Ensure you select ALL the activities you have been doing during each time slot. If you are travelling, you will still be asked about the activities you are doing. 4) Recording Mood During each time slot, you will be asked about how you were feeling using a scale. Please move the indicator arrow along the scale. If your mood remains unchanged, move the indicator along the scale and then back again to progress to the next screen. Another question will be asked to get a deeper understanding about feelings during the time slot. Please select as many pictures to describe your feelings. Select None of these if none of the pictures match your mood. 7

8 6 DIARY COMPLETION You will have completed your diary after 7 full days (up until midnight) and it will finish when you reach midnight at the end of day 7 (if you are awake at that time) or when you fill in what time you slept until on the morning of day 8 if you went to sleep before midnight. Diary entries are transmitted back in real time, so, as long as there is a Wi-Fi connection or you have signal/data, when your last time slot is complete and submitted, the screen will show as Diary Complete. You may have to wait for a few minutes for the Diary Complete screen to appear (a short delay may occur depending on your internet connection/signal). Alternatively, keep selecting / located on the top right until you see the Diary Complete screen. You can close the app once you have seen the Diary Complete screen but please do not delete the app from your phone for another 24 hours to be sure that all data is transmitted. If you have any further questions, refer to the Frequently Asked Questions section. Please contact us on the helpline or by for any questions not answered in these instructions. As per the diary screen, please do not delete or close the app for another 24 hours so that we can be sure that all of your data has reached us. Please don t forget to complete the separate questionnaire. HOW TO UNINSTALL THE APP If you are using an Android device, simply open Settings, scroll down to Apps, find TouchPoints, and then click Uninstall. This will also remove the VPN profile. If you are using an iphone, simply press down on the app icon. When an X appears above TouchPoints, tap the X to remove the application. You must then remove the VPN profile from your device by going to Settings, General, Profiles and then removing the VPN profile. You will be asked for your passcode. This is your own 4-6 digit code that you usually use to unlock your phone. Once verified that you have completed both the diary and the questionnaire, we will send out your shopping voucher either by or post as a thank you within the following 2-3 weeks. 7 SEPARATE QUESTIONNAIRE Please complete the separate questionnaire during the diary completion week. It is a different survey from the TouchPoints diary being completed on your phone. Please complete the questionnaire within 2 weeks of starting the diary. It is designed to provide a complete picture of how participants spend their time, which covers television, radio, newspapers, magazines, travel, internet and mobile phone usage, shopping and a range of other topics. It is a long questionnaire split into sections so that each section is completed at a convenient time over the course of the week. You will have a paper version of the questionnaire if you have told us that you do not use the internet or do not have a computer/tablet. If you provided an address, you can access the questionnaire online by clicking on the link sent to you. In the online version, each section should take approx minutes to complete. You may keep coming back to it at any time during the week by clicking on the link. Click on the Submit button when all sections are completed to allow for answers to be sent to us. The online survey is not suitable for completion on a phone. We will only send your shopping vouchers once both the diary and questionnaire are completed. 8

9 8.1 BACKGROUND APP Phone If you have agreed to have your phone monitored, please keep the app open at all times when your phone is switched on. If you normally switch your phone off when it s not in use, it s fine to do that. In general, just try to use your phone in the way you normally would! During our initial telephone call, we mentioned the opportunity to receive an extra shopping voucher if you agreed for us to measure your smartphone usage for 7 days. The app will collect information on your app and internet usage. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for full details about the information we collect. You do not have to do anything once the app is downloaded; the information is sent to us automatically via the app if the app is running and VPN is activated. 8.2 Please make sure that you have enabled accessibility (if your phone is an Android) and ensure that the VPN is connected. IMPORTANT (Android only): If you switch your Android phone off, when switching back on, check that the VPN is activated in your Notifications. You may also get notifications or texts from us if we notice that Accessibility is not activated. Please don t ignore these as you data will not be usable if Accessibility is not activated. BACKGROUND APP Tablet If you agreed for us to measure your tablet usage for 7 days. the link to install the tablet app is in a separate which you will receive with the subject line TouchPoints tablet app. Click on the link to download the app. (Please note, you should open the on your tablet). SET UP FOR IOS TABLET Refer to the set up instructions for the iphone (Section 2.1) IMPORTANT (ipads only): It is essential that the VPN remains active for us to be able to use your data. We may send you text reminders if we see that our VPN is not active. Please don t ignore these and contact us if you can t resolve it yourself. IMPORTANT Install on the same day as you install the diary app on your phone SET UP FOR ANDROID TABLET Refer to the set up instructions for Android (Section 2.2) (Android only): If you switch your tablet off, when switching back on, check that the VPN is activated in your Notifications. You may also get notifications if we notice that Accessibility is not activated. Please don t ignore these as you data will not be usable if Accessibility is not activated. IMPORTANT It is essential that the VPN remains active for us to be able to use your data. We may send you text reminders if we see that your VPN is not active. Please don t ignore these and contact us if you can t resolve it yourself. The information received will be used for market research purposes only. The app does not share personal information or anything that will be attributed to you personally. Full details on what is collected are within the Privacy Policy, which you will see when you first install the app and is also accessible in the About section of the app after installation. IMPORTANT To take part in the tablet app, DO NOT use the username we sent you in the SMS message. You need to use the real address you gave us to log in to the tablet app. If at any point you stop taking part in the phone usage measurement you WILL NOT be able to take part in the tablet measurement either as both should be completed together. 10 9 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS TOUCHPOINTS DIARY APP What is my username to log into the diary app? Your username details can either be found on the confirmation we sent after you agreed to take part (if you provided an address) or this can also be found on the SMS message we sent you. Here is an example of what it will look like: If this does not work or if you experience any login problems, please contact us. Why are questions the same for each 30 minute interval? The half hour questions are purposely worded identically in order to track differences that might occur from time to time throughout the day. Once you are familiar with the timeslots, they can be accurately completed in a couple of minutes or less. Do I have to fill it in every half an hour? You don t literally have to access the diary in every half an hour but at some point you will need to catch up if you fall behind by a few hours. Times when you are sleeping can be recorded in blocks rather than half hour by half hour. I have fallen behind on my diary entries. It is not a problem if you fall behind by a few hours. As long as you are able to catch up the time slots you missed, you can just enter them, one by one, all in one session. The time for each slot will show at the top of the diary screen. If you can t catch up the time slots that you have missed then please contact us using the details below so we can tell you how to restart the diary the following day. Please note, If you are taking part in the background app, your 7 days will also have to start again too. How do I know when I have finished the diary? After completing your entries up to midnight on the seventh day, a message will appear on screen to notify you that the diary has been completed. TOUCHPOINTS DIARY APP I keep getting notifications saying the TouchPoints is no longer running. Please restart the app. If you do get this notification, the most likely reason is that you have closed the app. Once you go back into the app, it will restart as normal. If you have an iphone and if you are having your phone monitored, it s particularly important that you don t close the app. Unable to send data message When filling in the diary on your phone, if you see a message saying that you have unsubmitted entries or Unable to Send Data, this means you are filling the diary offline, i.e. your phone does not have signal or connection. The entries will be submitted the next time your phone connects to the internet. My phone is broken or I have a new one part way through the diary. What do I do? If this happens, we will have to send you the link again for you to re-start the diary from the beginning. Please contact us to request this. I have accidentally deleted the diary app, what do I do? If this happens, you will need to download the app again using the link we sent you in the SMS message. You will need to start the diary again from the beginning. If you are taking part in the background app, your 7 days will also have to start again too. Will the diary app cost me money? Our TouchPoints app is free to download, and uses a small amount of data daily. If data is not included in your package then you will be charged by your network provider when the application accesses the internet. If you have even a small data allowance within your contract, the data usage is likely to fall within this, though, as data plans vary greatly, we cannot guarantee that this will be the case. PHONE BACKGROUND APP I accidentally deleted the RealityMineVPN profile, how do I get it back? iphone USERS ONLY If you have deleted the RealityMineVPN profile and would like to still take part in this part, please contact us asap as we can send you the VPN profile again. You will not need to start again as long as you tell us within 24 hours. SEPARATE QUESTIONNAIRE PAPER VERSION What are the serial numbers on the paper questionnaire? If we have sent you a paper version of the separate questionnaire, the serial numbers are only used to monitor which questionnaires have been returned, so that we can send you your vouchers and monitor response levels. Please do not peel these off. ONLINE VERSION How do I fill in the questionnaire online? If you gave us an address, you will have received an just after we spoke to you on the phone. As well as general instructions, it included your own unique link to the separate questionnaire. I did not receive an If you did not receive an from us, please do make sure to check your Junk s. The address the will come from is touchpoints@ipsos-mori.com.. You can add the TouchPoints address to your Safe Sender List so that you receive all our future s about the TouchPoints study. If you still do not think you have received our , please contact us and we will send you the invitation again. The survey link in my is not working If the survey link does not work, please copy and paste the link into your internet browser. Note that if you have clicked on the link twice within 10 minutes, you may be blocked from the survey. All sessions/tabs/browsers that have the survey open should be closed and you will need to wait 10 minutes before you can access the link in your invite again. If you click on the link before the 10 minute period is up, the 10 minute timer will revert back to 0 and a new 10 minute period will begin. 10
