1 Quick start guide to setting up your new ipad (Applies to 3 rd & 4 th Generation ipad s & ipad Air with ios7) Version 2.0 ios 7.04 Nov 2013

2 Welcome! This guide is designed to help you complete the setup of a new ipad, which will primarily be used for UEA business purposes, and will be used as a stand alone device which is not linked to a PC or Mac computer. The step-by-step instructions will take you through Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Initial setup process when you turn your ipad on for the first time, Connecting to UEA Wi-Fi, Setting up and validating a new AppleID (used for buying Apps), Setting up and validating a new icloud account (used for backing-up your data), Configuring a UEA account & Calendar, Setting up a passcode (required to access UEA ), Setting up your AppStore account with Billing information Downloading your first ibook (the ipad User Manual) Adding credit to your AppleID (to purchase items from the AppStore) You will need to complete Part 1 before you can use the ipad, but Parts 2, 3, & 4 can be completed at any time after that* Ready? Let s get started! * If you do decide to complete portions of the setup process at a later time - some of the screen shots in Parts 3 & 4 may differ from what you see on your ipad.

3 Part 1 Initial Setup When you first unpack your new ipad and turn it on this will be the first screen you will see. It says Hello in multiple languages. Slide your finger across the bar at the bottom to start. Tap the screen to select your desired language from the list (British English) Tap on your desired Region from the list (United Kingdom) You will be asked to connect to a Wi-Fi network.

4 If on campus tap eduroam Enter your UEA user id and password as shown. (NOTE: Don t forget at the end of your user ID) When the connection is made you will need to accept the security certificate. Tap Accept to continue. When your connection to eduroam has been fully setup you will see a tick next to the name. Your device will then register with Apple. Tap on Enable Location Services

5 Tap on Set Up as New ipad You will need to setup an Apple ID user account to enable you to purchase content from itunes. Tap Create a Free Apple ID Enter your date of birth using the sliders at the bottom of the screen and tap the Next button at the top of the screen. Enter your name details in the boxes provided and tap the Next button at the top of the screen.

6 If the device is to be used for UEA business then we recommend that you select Use your current address and tap Next Enter your UEA address and tap the Next button Think of a password to use for your new AppleID and enter it into the boxes - then tap the Next button. NOTE: This is NOT your UEA password Choose a security question from each of the drop downs and enter your answer to each one in the box provided. Tap the Next button when finished.

7 If you forget your password you can get a reset link sent to another address. If you have a personal address enter it here. Choose if you would like to receive weekly s from Apple. If you don t want any s Tap the green slider to turn it off (turns grey) You must agree to Apple s Terms & Conditions before continuing. If you agree then tap the Agree button. The last few steps are to complete the icloud setup. Tap on Use icloud

8 Tap on Use Find my ipad This option is useful if you misplace your ipad and will help you locate it. To protect anyone from accessing your ipad it s advisable to setup a 4 digit PIN to lock the device. Type in a 4 digit number. Confirm the 4 digit PIN again to ensure it s correct. In Part 2 we will be replacing this 4 digit PIN with a 6 digit PIN Some newer ipad models have a built in voice assistant called Siri. If you see this screen tap on Use Siri. If your device doesn t have this option then you can move on to the next step.

9 Choose if you would like to send Apple Diagnostics information. We would recommend tapping Don t Send That s it you are nearly done! Tap on Get Started to begin! The Home screen of your new ipad should now be displayed showing the pre-installed Apps from Apple.

10 Finishing up Verifying your address for your AppleID. During the setup process you will have supplied your UEA address to be used as your AppleID. You should have received a verification , and before continuing to use the ipad you will need to validate your information. Click on the Verify Now > link in the and login to the Apple site with your AppleID (your UEA address) and the password you set-up earlier. And finally... After logging into the My Apple ID website you should see this confirmation screen. Follow the on screen instructions given to complete the activation process on your ipad. Congratulations! That s Part 1 completed. You can now continue setting up your ipad, or start using it straight away and come back to this point at a later time.* * If you do decide to come back at a later time some of the screen shots in Parts 3 & 4 may differ from what you see on your ipad.

11 Part 2 UEA & Calendar Setup From the home screen tap the Settings icon, and then tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then tap Add account From the options shown on the right of the screen tap on Exchange Fill in your user details following the examples above, then tap Next After a short pause some extra text boxes (Server, Domain, and Username) will appear. Complete this as shown above and tap Next

12 Choose which options you would like to setup by sliding the relevant on / off switches on screen - then tap Save Press the button located just below the screen on your ipad, and after a few moments the Passcode setup screen will appear. Tap Continue Enter the 4 digit passcode that you set in Part 1, then tap Continue Enter a new 6 digit passcode that will be used to secure the ipad (as per UEA Mobile Device Policy) then tap Continue. Re-enter the passcode to confirm, then tap Save

13 Part 3.1 Setting up your App Store Account From the home screen tap the App Store icon. When the App Store has finished loading a pop up window will ask if you want to download the some free Apps (including ibooks) Tap the Download All button. Tap on Use Existing Apple ID Enter your Apple ID & password and tap OK

14 As this is the first download on your ipad the App Store you need to review the terms and conditions and enter some billing information. Tap Review to continue and confirm that you d like to use the UK App Store by default. Tap Next when done. You need to agree to the Apple Terms & Conditions before continuing. In the T&C s window slide your finger up the screen to scroll up the text at the bottom of the page click on the Agree button.

15 Setting up your billing information for itunes, ibooks, and App Store purchases. On the next screen you will need to provide information on how you would like to pay for any content purchased on the ipad in future. There are two payment methods available to you, and it is up to you to choose which will best suit your needs. Option 1: Provide details of a valid Credit or Debit Card. Each time you buy an item it will be charged directly to your chosen card, and Apple will store your card details on their server. Your AppleID password is required every time a purchase is made to avoid unauthorised billing. If you choose this method you will need to ensure the billing address details you enter are exactly the same as the registered address for the Credit/Debit card. Option 2: Purchase Pre-pay gift cards. You can purchase itunes credit in shops and supermarkets in various denominations ( 10, 25, 50, 100). You may continue to purchase items until the credit is used up, and your AppleID password is required every time a purchase is made to avoid unauthorised purchases. In the pop-up window confirm that you Agree by tapping the Agree button. If you choose this method select None in the card type, however you will still need to enter a billing address on the following screen. Select your chosen payment option and then slide up the screen to complete your billing info. When all fields are complete tap on Next.

16 If you didn t verify your address at the end of Section 1 of this guide - you will see this message. You will need to go back and complete this before you can continue. If you have already verified your you just need to sign in to your Apple ID by typing in your password and tapping on OK Tap on OK to continue. As the new Apps download the clock-like animated progress graphic will show the progress. As there are approx. 10 Apps to download this may take a few minutes depending on the speed of your Wi-Fi. This may be an ideal opportunity to make a cup of tea!

17 When the downloads are finished your icons should look something like this. Where did all my other App icons go? When your new Apps downloaded you probably noticed that all the other App icons that were there before seem to have disappeared. Don t panic! Your ipad has just placed your new Apps onto a fresh page. To help you stay organised you can have multiple pages of Apps (as shown by the two dots near the bottom of the display). To move between the screens simply drag your finger horizontally across the screen from left to right, or right to left. Notice that the white dot at the bottom of the screen has moved. Swipe your finger across the screen so that the page with the ibooks icon is displayed again. More details of how to organise your Apps can be found in the ipad Instruction manual - which we are now going to download and install

18 Part 3.2 Downloading your first ibook From the home screen tap the ibooks icon, which should have finished installing by now. The ibooks App uses your Apple ID for purchases so type in your password and tap OK Tap OK to continue. Tap Sync to continue.

19 This is your empty bookshelf. Tap the Store button at the top of the screen to continue. This is the ibooks store. Tap inside the Search store box at the top of the screen, and type in ipad. The search suggestions drop down will show some book titles it has found. Tap on ipad user guide for ios7 (fourth one in the list) This screen shows the results of the search we just made. The book we want to download is the first one in the list (top left). To purchase this book tap on the price ticket ( FREE )

20 When you tap on the price ticket it turns green, and to confirm the purchase tap GET BOOK The green block will change to say DOWNLOADING and after a short pause will return to your bookshelf. You now have your first book on your bookshelf! It s the User Guide for the ipad, and will be invaluable if you have any questions in the future. Tap the book cover to open it. You can navigate through the ibook by swiping your finger across the screen. To return to your bookshelf tap the middle of the screen once and tap the Library button that appears at the top of the screen. To return to your Home screen press at the bottom of the ipad.

21 Part 4 Adding credit to your AppleID Adding credit for itunes, ibooks, and App Store purchases. If you decided to not provide credit card details when setting up your account in Part 3.1, you will need to apply an itunes Gift card to your account before being able to make any purchases. If you have already purchased a gift card, or have been supplied with one as part of your package, this section shows you how to redeem it and add the value to your account. Before starting on the ipad, locate the silver strip on the back of the gift card, and gently rub or peel off the silver panel to reveal your unique code. Open the App Store by tapping on the icon on the Home screen. When the App Store has loaded scroll to the bottom of the page and tap the Redeem button. Enter the code from the Gift Card manually, or scan it with the camera. The credit will be applied to your account instantly.
