1 Miss Greater Grand Rapids Hello, You are receiving this letter because you have expressed interest in competing in the 2018 Miss Greater Grand Rapids pageant which will take place on Saturday October 14,2017 in Wayland Michigan! I am excited to open this pageant up to all young women who live, work or go to school in Michigan. DEADLINES Because of the nature of this pageant it is crucial that you follow these guidelines if you want to be involved in the pageant- I understand that many of you will continue to compete throughout the year and if you win you will represent that title, however there are many things that go into planning a pageant and we need to get things in order early in order to deliver a quality show. Thus following deadlines closely is very important. The following information must be sent to me via mail by the deadlines listed. If you have questions about this please let me know. Fact Sheet-Seven (7) copies via mail Platform Essay- Seven (7) copies via mail Talent Music- Please send a MPG file of your talent music submitted to missgreatergrandrapids@gmail.com. Physical CD s will not be accepted. Please label it Jane Doe s Talent Music time is limited to 1 minute 30 seconds. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR MUSIC WORKS AND IS THE CORRECT CUT! WE WILL NOT MAKE CHANGES TO THE MASTER CD THE DAY OF THE PAGEANT! Miss Greater Grand Rapids Entry Form (which is included at the bottom with this letter) One (1) copy via mail Contestant Contract filled in, notarized and with all information attached One (1) copy via mail Headshot One copy via jpeg please- send to missgreatergrandrapids@gmail.com with the title JANE DOE HEADSHOT The address to send the material to is located on the entry form at the bottom of this letter. DUE DATES Paperwork/Talent Reservation/Talent Music/Notarized Contract/Headshot Due: September 29, 2017 CMN Deadline: September 29, 2017 Pageant Date: Saturday, October 14, 2017 Please make sure that you fill in your paperwork with the correct information- i.e. that it says Miss Greater Grand Rapids where appropriate, also make sure you have all the paperwork signed and notarized. You can often find a free notary at a local bank. Just go into the bank and ask if there is a notary. All of these steps regarding paperwork are the same as if you were entering any other local pageant however feel free to me in case you need clarification or have forgotten. Below is a list of deadlines for information that I will need to receive from you- also please keep in mind that you will need to raise your $100 for CMN- this process is just the same as the process for signing up for local pageants, but please let me know if you have any questions.

You must have this filled out, all required information attached and notarized in order to compete. If you this is not properly filled out you will not be able to compete. Please PLEASE label your Jane Doe Headshot and send to missgreatergrandrapids@gmail.com by September 29, 2017 CMN Donation: YOU MUST HAVE YOUR CMN donation posted to the website by September 29, 2017.Checks must be posted to the website by September 29, 2017 as well. That means you need to send them AT LEAST 2 weeks before that deadline for them to have time to process them. These deadlines are ABSOLUTE. If I do not receive your materials by the date posted you will be unable to compete. CMN We are in the 2019 cycle for MAO and CMN. When you sign on you must sign on for THIS IS A CRITICAL ISSUE TO NOTE PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. The reason is that 2019 is the year the winner of this cycle's local pageant will compete for the title of Miss America. CMN Directions: 1. Each contestant needs to sign on to the CMN site, following the directions in the booklet ASAP. Without setting up your page, donations have no place to be posted. To be eligible to compete, you must be signed on. 2. To be eligible to compete, you must raise $100 before the pageant and have it posted on your page. Here are some suggested ways to raise money: A) Follow the directions for ing out to friends and family. 10 s usually does it; if not 10, 20 definitely will. It's quick and no hassle and you don't even have to handle money. B) Be creative. Some young women speak to their churches or for example, a pianist who put a can on their piano while playing in church after an announcement of what the can is for. One did a bake sale after church and far exceeded her goal. People wanted to take home dessert! A garage sale can also be an easy way to make your CMN money.

3 PEOPLE S CHOICE We will be having a people s choice award at the show so I need you to bring a container decorated to your choosing for this purpose- you will be contacted about this as the pageant gets closer. My cell phone number is and I work from 8:00-6:00 and will be unable to answer my phone during work as I get no cell phone reception so please feel free to call me with questions or concerns after 6:00 or anytime on the weekend. PAPERWORK INFORMATION The instructions and templates for your resume and platform statement are available on the Miss America website and the state contract is located on the Miss Michigan website as well as being located on our website. Please read the instructions included for each, fill them out as required, print off, and submit by the due date. The local contract is available as a PDF- it is fillable so all you have to do is change the information as necessary and print. As a repeat, the contract must be notarized BEFORE you turn it in. The judge s notebooks which include the platform statement and resumes are given to the judges. This will be the judge s first impression of you. Take the time to check for proper spelling and grammar. They should be printed from a computer or typewritten on plain white copy paper. No changes to your paperwork will be allowed after they are turned in. Paperwork that is late will not be included in the judge s notebooks, and will be given to the judges on pageant day. If you have questions about where to find templates, contracts etc. please contact me and I can send them to you. ORIENTATION/REHEARSAL This will be a one day pageant. Rehearsal will be the day of the pageant and that will be the only rehearsal that there is. Please come ready to learn and to learn quickly. Family and friends are not allowed backstage during the pageant and are not allowed to watch rehearsals and must leave as soon as you are dropped off. There will be hostess backstage who will be able to assist you during the pageant with wardrobe changes etc. PRODUCTION/WARDROBE REQUIREMENTS. The opening number outfit will be decided as the pageant gets closer. More details will be sent out to the final contestant list. Remember to keep your wardrobe Miss America appropriate. If you have any questions about something you are thinking about wearing please bring the item to rehearsal so we can assist you with decision making.

4 TALENT MUSIC Talent music will be registered by the date that it is received- thus if Jane Doe has the same competition music as you and gets her entry form in first she will be able to use the music and you will have to find something else. The contestant is responsible for making the desired cuts to her music. The time limit for the talent competition is ninety seconds. The music that you turn is must be of competition quality. Music may not be enhanced. Example: If you play the violin you may not have your performance part on the track. If you find that you are having problems please consult with me PRIOR to the deadline.
