3 Introduction INWICAST Mediacenter is an extension for Moodle developed by INWI, a young french company, in collaboration with the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-EnYvelines and the Ecole Centrale de Lyon. INWICAST Mediacenter adds multimedia capabilities to Moodle so that teachers can easily publish, manage and share podcasts in various audio and video formats. It manages uploaded podcasts as well as videos hosted on servers as Youtube, Dailymotion or Google Video. In addition to this module, you may be interested by INWICAST Publisher, a very simple tool to record podcasts, videocasts, screencasts and PowerPoint slidecasts. This software integrates automated publishing for any Moodle platform with INWICAST Mediacenter. A trial version is available the Inwicast Mediacenter for Moodle demo site. User guide for teachers Add a mediacenter block to a course To add a mediacenter to your course, you have to enter edit mode and select mediacenter in the blocks list. 3

4 Access to the mediacenter from a course Click on course videos in the mediacenter bloc of the course as shown below. Show videos of a course Once in the mediacenter, the default screen shows all videos published in the selected course. You can display the videos as a list (default mode) or as thumbnails by clicking on the icon. 4

5 Display RSS feed for a course By clicking on the icon you can show the RSS feed for the videos of the course. RSS feeds can be easily integrated to news portals and aggregators like Netvibes: 5

6 Add a video to a course Upload a video in a course This screen allows teachers to upload videos on the server using the following web page. Note that the size limit of the uploaded file depends on your Moodle server configuration. Add a link to a video This screen allows teachers to add links to external videos or content which are hosted on distant servers like youtube, dailymotion, slideshare, etc. 6

7 The embedded player is a small HTML code that you can copy and paste in paste in a web page to integrates a video. It can be found on most of video servers. The screen capture below shows where you can find the embedded player code on youtube: For the previous video, the embedded player code is as follows: <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value=" <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Copy and paste in the embedded player field of the page before to submit the form. To get the link of the image preview (with Firefox), right click on the image and select Copy the address of the image from the context menu. Paste the text in the zone Link to the image preview of the form. For the previous youtube video, the preview link is: If you do not specify a preview link for video, a default image will be associated. Download INWICAST Publisher This screen allows you to download INWICAST Publisher trial or full version for Windows XP / VISTA (depending on if you have a valid license or not). 7

8 You can get a trial version or buy a full version of Inwicast Publisher on inwicast.com. Wath and share videos Watching a video online To watch a video online, just click on the thumbnail of the video in the mediacenter. The player will appear as follow: A sample youtube video 8

9 A Powerpoint slidecast recorded live with Inwicast Publisher Share video This screen allows teachers to access the permanent link and HTML export drive to integrate video in a external webpage (eg on an information portal). Download mp3 and mp4 versions of the video If you use INWICAST Publisher, you can save and convert the same media to various formats: Flash flv for the web, mp3 and mp4 for downloading and playing on multimedia devices like the ipod. 9

10 Please note that in the case of Powerpoint slidecasts, two versions of the mp4 video can be made available: one with the video of the speaker and one with the slides and audio comments. Edit and delete videos Edit a video The following screen allows you to update information of video: title, description, etc. Delete a video The delete button is located on the edit page seen previously. A dialog box will ask you to confirm before to delete the video. 10

11 User guide for students Inwicast Mediacenter for Moodle offers the same user interface to students excepted that they access to videos in read only mode. 11
