For the utomotive mrket, vrnish ws used t the beginning of the 20th century s ssembly line cr production gined momentum. It ws necessry for the snding discs to keep pce with these improvements; so, tougher het-treted grin nd pper-ltex bckings were developed to increse cut rte, on these tougher substrtes, nd extend disc life. In the mid-80s, helth, sfety nd environmentl concerns motivted the government to enct rules nd regultions to improve ir qulity. Low VOC urethne nd polyurethne pints helped bodyshops comply with the lw. Centrl vcuum systems were instlled nd discs were die-punched with 6 holes in circle for vcuum extrction to minimize dust nd to extend disc life. By the 21st century, self-seling clers, nnotechnology nd the trnsition from solvent bsed to wterborne pints demnded quntum lep in brsives for the bodyshop. High performnce brsives, like cermic lumin grin, were developed for more precise snding, superior cut nd longer life. Incresed dust extrction becme criticl for MULTI-AIR CYCLONIC wterborne finishes to reduce irborne prticles s possible contmintion nd, therefore, more holes were needed. MULTI-AIR The first lep in multi-hole snding went from 6 holes to the Norton Multi-Air System with 181 die-punched holes lid out in grid. However, 6 HOLE it ws necessry to properly lign the disc holes with the Norton Multi-Air bck-up pd for optiml dust extrction. This unique system provided mssive increse in dust extrction nd cut rte NO HOLE over the 6-hole configurtion, but there ws room for improvement. Using Mother Nture s n evolutionry guide nd using our ltest mnufcturing technology, Norton hs developed the most dvnced brsive disc on Dust Extrction Mteril Removl nd Cut the mrket. The ptent-pending Multi-Air Cyclonic disc hs 346 holes in 6" disc tht re precisely cut by lser. Unlike die-punched hole which cuses deformtion t the hole where dust cn collect thereby reducing cut nd the bility to extrct dust, the precision lser cut holes re true nd flt nd id in directing dust into the holes to reduce contmintion in the shop. Multi-Air Cyclonic discs cn ttch to ny multi-hole (54+ holes) bck up pd since the holes in the disc do not hve to be mtched up with the holes in the pd, so chngeover is fst nd esy.
