====================================== HEADS Rail Release 14.1, User s Guide for Tutorial Data Tutorial 01 Survey Data Mapping DTM Contours ====================================== USER's Guide to run Project Data for Survey Data Mapping DTM Contours, The Total Station Survey file "SURVEY.TXT" is supplied in the folder: "Tutorial 01 Survey Data Mapping DTM Contours>> Project Data", Copy the file in your working folder outside this folder. Process 1. Text Data to Mapping by Reading Total Station Survey data and preparing Survey Base Plan, Transferring drawing Coordinates to GPS Coordinates Process 2. Formatting as GEN File, Modeling, Ground Modeling, Transferring Survey Coordinates to GPS Coordinates, Ground Modeling for Triangulation, Creating Contours During practicing the Tutorial Sessions user should have a printout of the User s Guide ready in hand for better understanding and using as ready reference to follow the steps. Once user is thorough with the Tutorials of HEADS Rail, the users will be able to handle HEADS Rail with the Tutorials given separately in those sections. The procedure is almost same in the other platforms. 1
========= Process 1: ========= Here we shall see how to process the Total Station Survey Data and create the Survey Base Plan Drawing, next the Drawing will be Aligned to GPS Coordinates. The file SURVEY.txt exists in the folder Desktop\Heads Rail Tutorials\Tutorial 01 Survey Data Mapping DTM Contours >> Project Data", which holds the Total Station Survey data in Text data Format, where each record contains Serial Number, Easting (metres), Northing (metres), Elevation (metres) and Feature ID Code. Next, use HEADS menu option File >> Open, Select file SURVEY.txt, Click on button Open, the file SURVEY.txt is selected 2
Select Heads Rail menu option Viewing>>Interactive Drawing, this will open Heads Viewer, As the Heads Viewer opens select menu option Draw>>Text Data to mapping, 3
As the Dialog Box opens, the Tab Select File is displayed, Click on button for Browse as shown, Select file SURVEY.txt from folder Project Data, Click on button Open, All the Features as listed in the Dialog Box, Select the Tab Draw as shown below, Uncheck the box for P0 as shown below, Click on Color box and select colors for each features as shown below, Click on button Draw and then Finish located at the bottom of the Dialog Box as shown below, 4
All the Features are drawn as shown below, the drawing may be saved by using Heads Viewer menu option File>>Save As, As the Save As box comes type a file name SURVEY and Select File type DWG 2004 and click on button Save, the drawing is saved in file SURVEY.dwg, Next we shall transform the drawing in GPS Coordinates, the drawing is currently in Surveyor s own Coordinates, At two points the Surveyors coordinates are: TM , (First Point with Surveyors Coordinates) UTM , (Same Point with GPS Coordinates) TM , (Second Point with Surveyors Coordinates) UTM , (Same Point with GPS Coordinates) In Heads Viewer menu Bar, Click on button for Zoom out once only to shrink the drawing, 5
Select Heads Viewer menu option Modify>>Align, Select the entire drawing by clicking two diagonally opposite corners outside the drawing as shown below, then click the right mouse button, At the left bottom corner of Heads Viewer, the command line is asking for Enter First Source Point, Enter the X,Y values of First Point with Surveyors Coordinates and press Enter key, 6
Next, the command line is asking for Enter First Destination Point, Enter the X,Y values of Same Point with GPS Coordinates and press Enter key, Next, the command line is asking for Enter Second Source Point, Enter the X,Y values of Second Point with Surveyors Coordinates and press Enter key, Next, the command line is asking for Enter Second Destination Point, Enter the X,Y values of Same Point with GPS Coordinates and press Enter key, In Heads Viewer menu Bar, Click on button for Zoom Extends to get the drawing, 7
The drawing is now converted in GPS Coordinates, The drawing may be saved by using Heads Viewer menu option File>>Save As, As the Save As box comes type a file name SURVEY_GPS and Select File type DWG 2004 and click on button Save, the drawing is saved in file SURVEY_GPS.dwg, 8
========= Process 2: ========= The files Project Data File.txt and SURVEY.txt exist in the folder Desktop\Heads Rail Tutorials\Tutorial 01 Survey Data Mapping DTM Contours>> Project Data", The file Project data.txt holds some data to format the data in GENIO records, Modeling from the GENIO data, Transferring Survey data in Model files to GPS Coordinates, Processing for Ground Modeling/Triangulation and Creating Contours. The file SURVEY.txt holds the Total Station Survey data in Text data Format, where each record contains Serial Number, Easting (metres), Northing (metres), Elevation (metres) and Feature ID Code. Select the file Project Data File.txt from folder Project Data and Click on button Open, 9
The Project Workspace opens with a list of processes following the data sequence in file Project Data File.txt, Click on button Proceed as shown below, The first process comes for Format Data as 2D/3D DGM File, Click on button Make Feature Continuous and WRITE TO GEN FILE, 10
As the process starts, Click on button Proceed, when the process finishes click on buttons OK and Finish, The out is written as formatted GENIO data in file SURVEY.GEN, The next process is for Modeling from 2D/3D or Text DGM/GEN File, Click on buttons Proceed, OK, OK, when the process finishes click on buttons OK and Finish, the output is written in files MODEL.FIL and MODEL.LST, 11
The next process is for MODEL EDIT, Click on buttons Proceed, when the process finishes click on buttons OK and Finish, the output is the Survey model converted into GPS Coordinates and are written in files MODEL.FIL and MODEL.LST, The next process is for Ground Modeling/Triangulation, the various Survey Features which are stored as string labels in the model files are already selected, Click on button OK, 12
As the process starts Click on buttons Proceed, when the process finishes click on buttons OK, the output is written in files HDS000.FIL, HDS001.FIL & Contour.FIL the DTM files will be used in various future process for design to get the ground elevations, The next process is for Contour Modeling, the various Survey Points in 3D will be taken from DTM files, the interval of elevations for primary contours C001 is mentioned as 1.0m, the interval of elevations for secondary contours C005 is mentioned as 5.0m, (always five times of interval of primary contours) and Elevation values as Text string ELEV at an interval of 5.0m. If the ground is relatively flatter then contour elevations may be given as 0.1m, 0.5m and 0.5m in Contour Data in file Project Data.txt, Click on button RUN, 13
As the process is over click on button Save, the Contour are saved under Model Name CONTOUR and String Labels C001, C005 & ELEV in model files MODEL.FIL & MODEL.LST, Maximize the icon for Contour RUN/QUIT from the bottom of the screen as shown below, Click on button QUIT to close the Contour window, 14
As all the processes are over click on button Finish as shown below, Select Heads Rail main screen menu option Viewing>>Interactive Drawing, As the Heads Viewer opens select menu option Format>>Layers Dialog, 15
