3 Using SFTP and MU Bengal S pace Most ZONE instructors will ask you to use the MU Bengal server to store your assignments. The MU Bengal server is a free Web space MU student can use to store files you have up to 00 MB of file storage. You can access to the MU Bengal server using a FREE software application that support Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). Most of students use SecureFX (PC) or FetchFTP (MAC).. Overview of Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) The diagram below provides an overview of how SFTP works. In order to transfer your files and/or folders (directories) from your local computer to Bengal Web space, you need to use SecureFX (PC) or FetchFTP (MAC). Using SFTP, you can upload copies of files and/or folders on your PC or MAC to the Bengal Web space. Those files and/or folder on the Bengal space are called as remote files and folders. 3 You work on a file, which is saved on your local hard drive. This file is only accessible from your local computer. Local Computer Bengal Server Remote files/folders stored under the WWW directory of your Bengal server are published to the Web where anyone can view them. Any Web users can view it on the Web. ch/) to access your Bengal space. Login into the site using your valid pawprint id and password. In the Prompt dialog box, enter your MU PawPrint and your password. Then, click OK.

Where to get SecureFX (PC) or FetchFTP (MAC) MU students can download SecureFX (PC) or FetchFTP (MAC) from the MU IT Software Distribution Site ( You must log in using a valid MU Pawprint ID and password. Please note, if you have any problems to download FetchFTP (for MAC users), you can also use Cyberduck ( to access your Bengal space. Login into the site using your valid pawprint id and password. In the Prompt dialog box, enter your MU PawPrint and your password. Then, click OK. 3 Click the Software. Search for either SecureCRT & SecureFX (PC) or FetchFTP (MAC) 4 5 Download the newest version and install the application on your local computer. 00 Digital Media Zone - 4 -

NOTE: How to download and install SecureFX?. After choosing SecureCRT & SecureFX, click Download Software Get-MU_SCRT-SFX_653 button.. A pop up Opening Get-MU_SCRT-SFX_653.

You will be directed to Step Authorization page. Right here you will select a drive to save the file, then click Continue button. 6.

5 NOTE: How to download and install SecureFX?. After choosing SecureCRT & SecureFX, click Download Software Get-MU_SCRT-SFX_653 button.. A pop up Opening Get-MU_SCRT-SFX_653.exe window will show up, click Save File button. 3. Click on the downloaded file (Get-MU_SCRT-SFX_653.exe) icon ( ). 4. Then a pop up Open File Security Warning will show up. Click on Run button. 5. You will be directed to Step Authorization page. Right here you will select a drive to save the file, then click Continue button. 6. After that, you will be directed to Step Downloading page to download the file, and Step 3 Unpacking page to unpack the file. 7. Then, you will be directed to Step 4 Launch Install page. In addition to install the software, you need to click Launch Install button. 8. Once you install the software, click on MU_SecureCRT-FX653.exe. 9. You are done! To display the hidden, choose Tile Vertically from the Window menu (Cascade, Tile Horizontally, or Tile Vertically) to make the hidden window show up. In the SFTP Login dialog box, enter the following information: Host Name: bengal.missouri.edu Login: Your MU PawPrint Connect using: SFTP Password: Your password Then, click the Connect button. 9 .4 How to transfer files from a local computer to a Bengal WWW space Locate files and/or folders (directories) that you want to upload to your Bengal server in the Local Window. There are two ways to upload files. Drag and drop files and/or folders (directories) from your local computer to your Bengal server to upload a copy of files and/or folders to your Bengal server. Or you can highlight file(s) and/or folder(s) in your Local window, choose Edit > Copy. Then, select a directory in your Bengal window where you want to store the copied files and/or folders. Then, choose Edit > Paste. Locate files and/or folders in the local window. Only files stored under the www directory will be displayed on the Web. Drag and drop files and/folders (directories) to upload a copy of files and/or folders to Bengal. IMPORTANT: All the pages and directories that you wish to view on the Web must be placed within the www directory; otherwise, they cannot be opened using a Web browser. NOTE: If these two windows are not displayed as in the picture above, it means that one window is hidden. In the Create Directory pop-up dialog, type a name for the folder in the New directory field. Then, click OK..5. Renaming folders and files Select the folder or file that you want to rename. Choose File > Rename. Then, you will be able to rename the name of the directory or file..5.3 Deleting folders Select the folder or file that you want to delete. Choose File > Delete. Then, the pop-up message box will ask you whether you really want to delete the highlighted one. Click Yes..6 How to name files and folders? Follow the rules below when you name files and folders. Keep your names relevant to the content of files and folders. Don t use spaces when you name files and folders. Instead, you can use underline (_) or dash (-). File/folder names are case-sensitive. 12 Taking a Snapshot of a Computer Screen You can take a snapshot of your computer screen and save it as a graphic. This strategy is useful for capturing what you see on your screen for technical support.. How to take a snapshot of a Windows (PC) computer screen?. Display the screen or application that you want to capture. If you want to take a snapshot of your Website on Firefox, open the page in Firefox.. Now, decide whether you want to capture the whole computer screen or only the active application or window. If you want to take the whole computer screen, press the Print Screen button on your keyboard. If you want to capture only the active application or window, hold ALT when you press the Print Screen button. Then, the snapshot will be stored on a clipboard. 3. Open a new file in MS Word or any software applications that support graphics. 4. Choose Paste from the Edit menu. If you took a snapshot correctly, the Paste button will be activated and you should be able to successfully paste the image into your document. 6. Name your file and save it. The picture will be found on your hard drive with the file name "Picture " or a subsequent number if you've snapped more than one picture.
