5 Introduction Introduction This document describes the changes in the Siemens MXL Driver versions. When performing a driver upgrade, pay close attention to which type of upgrade is being performed. The Siemens MXL Driver has standard applications, but also allows manually-created points or custom applications to be used. The Siemens MXL Driver is released on the PXC Modular and PXC-36. Throughout the rest of this document, PXC series is used to refer to both models. PXC Modular or PXC-36 is used when a specific model is being discussed. To upgrade from the MEC/MBC/Open Processor to the current platform, see the Standard Upgrade Tables [ 12] in the MEC/MBC/Open Processor section. WARNING During a firmware upgrade, the loaded ISB file will be erased from Flash. Therefore, before any firmware upgrade, the loaded ISB file must be backed up with FLT. If this step is skipped, the ISB file will be lost. The driver may continue running with the RAM copy of the ISB file, but this copy will be lost if the RAM back-up battery is weak and the power cycles. 5 16

6 Release/Upgrade Information for the PXC Compatibility Release/Upgrade Information for the PXC NOTE: The Siemens MXL and FireFinder XLS Drivers on PXC use the same underlying code for firmware and the license. However, the start-up and commissioning process for the Siemens MXL and FireFinder XLS Drivers is not the same. For consistency, always use the MXL license part number (LSM-INT-SBTMXL) and the MXL documentation for the Siemens MXL Driver. Since the underlying code is the same, the firmware and driver license do not need to be updated if the MXL system is migrated to XLS in the future. Compatibility The following table outlines which hardware or software is compatible with each firmware revision. Table 2: Hardware and Software Supported by the Siemens MXL Driver. For the PXC platform, you can upgrade using a firmware flash from the StdApps drive. This section reviews the possible PXC upgrade scenarios. Upgrading the Siemens MXL Driver from pre-pxc series to the PXC platform requires a hardware upgrade and a license. For ordering information, see the Siemens MXL Driver Product Update ( ). For information on the PXC Modular, see the PXC Modular Technical Reference Manual ( ). For information on the PXC-36, see the PXC Compact Technical Reference Manual ( ). 6 16

No charge No charge No charge No charge Major Changes The following major changes occurred when the Siemens MXL Driver moved to PXC hardware: The Siemens MXL Driver has been merged with the Siemens FireFinder XLS Driver. The driver no longer uses metadrops to map MXL points. Databases from Siemens MXL Drivers on Power Open Processors and MECs are not compatible with the Siemens MXL Driver on the PXC. Siemens MXL Drivers on Power Open Processors and MECs supported a maximum of 94 MXL cards. The Siemens MXL Driver on the PXC supports the full range of panels and cards that can be configured on an MXL network. Point values used in the driver to indicate the conditions of MXL devices have changed to the values that are used for XLS devices. Based on specific values for MXL devices, PPCL must be revised to reflect the new values. 7 16

BACnet Support The Siemens MXL Driver now supports the BACnet ALN on the PXC platform and is linked to BACnet Firmware Revision 3.2. Driver Changes Added HANDSHAKES (Point 78 in Diagnostic Application 5470) to insert additional handshakes between list requests during re-sync. This helps limit the data traffic on the XLS network, which improves the XLS response during driver re-syncs in medium and large networks. Multiple patches carried over from the core firmware. Most important fixes: Lock-up issue when Insight software is running under Windows Server 2008 or Windows 7. Issue of random erasure of EEROM configuration data during boot-up. Added PROTOCOL (Point 65 in Diagnostic Application 5470), which configures the driver to communicate with the Siemens fire alarm system using either the Enhanced or Legacy version of the FSI protocol. Fixed a bug in the operation of the General Alarm, General Supervisory, General Security, and General Trouble points. Initial Release that supports MXL. 10 Release/Upgrade Information for the PXC Backing up and Reloading the ISB File Backing up and Reloading the ISB File 1. Open the Firmware Loading Tool. 2. Upload the ISB file. a. On the Integrated Systems tab, click Identify to verify the revision string of the driver. b. Click Upload to upload the.isb file that contains the applications, and then choose a location to save the file. Figure 1: Saving the ISB File. 3. From the Firmware tab, load the Integration Firmware and verify that it has been properly loaded. Figure 2: Loading the Firmware. 4. Reload the.isb file. a. On the Integrated Systems tab, click Browse to locate the.isb file for the flash upgrade. b. Click Load

Verify that the devices and points are still operating correctly. Migrating MXL Driver on a PXCM When migrating the MXL Driver on the PXCM from a MBC, it is important to make sure to remove the resistor on the FLN wire going to the MXL NIM. Otherwise the PXCM will not communicate on the FLN. Other items to note: The value of NET CARD, diagnostic point 55, should be equal to the card number of the NIM that the FLN wire is connected to. The value of NET PANEL, diagnostic point 54, should also be considered. See the table in the Application 5470: Diagnostic and Control Point section in the Siemens MXL Driver for PXC Modular and the PXC-36 Technical Manual ( ) for details on determining the correct value. The following database changes must be made: To Migrate from MBC to PXCM 1. Metapoints must be deleted. These points are on FLN 3, Drop Diagnostic points must be moved from FLN 3, Drop 31 to FLN253, Drop If manually unbundled points are desired, then the FLN number of those points should equal the MXL field panel address. 4. Drop number should equal the MXL card address. If the metapoint point address in the MBC database equals the card address defined in the descriptor then the drop number should remain unchanged. 5. Point addresses in the MBC database must be increased by

Commissioning Tool (CT) does not support flashes from one driver type to another (the first three characters of the revision string must match); driver upgrades of this type must be hardware upgrades. The Standard Upgrade Tables section provides overviews of the upgrade types. Major Changes Recently, changes have been made to the diagnostic applications for all drivers. While the old applications will work with the new drivers, any new functionality will not be available. It is strongly recommended that the diagnostic applications be upgraded to the latest version, which is on the StdApps drive. Copy the following flash file to a computer with Commissioning Tool (CT). MBCPtoMBCE_INT.ebn This file is available on the StdApps drive. 2. Open the Firmware Loading Tool. 3. Flash upgrade the driver. a. On the Firmware tab, click Identify to verify the revision string of the driver. b. Click Browse to locate the.ebn file for the flash upgrade and open the file. c. In the Firmware area, click Load. NOTE: Revision and hardware will display not supported if the driver is already configured for Ethernet. 4. Verify that the devices and points are still operating correctly. Upgrading Pre-PowerPC Driver Versions to PowerPC This upgrade will be performed as a hardware upgrade and involves migrating to the PXC hardware and using a driver license file
