Primary Changes since the Previous Version Blue italic text indicates a new or recently announced feature or price change; or an important point to consider when evaluating a specific scenario. Changes in this edition reflect announcements made between August 8 and October 24, The primary change in this edition compared to the August 10 edition is that IP Telephony Express Edition pricing has been added. The release of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 for POWER and other Linux pricing actions. Information/links re. PM for System i5 were added to this page. The following changes occurred with August 10 edition: New CBU editions are announced for the i520. There are editions for use where the primary machine is a Standard Edition or an Enterprise edition. There are upgrades into these editions from 810 editions and other upgrades between the editions. See announcement letter for additional information. A new i520 SAP solution edition is announced. Actually, 2 models, a 1-way and a 1/2-way, HOWEVER, you do NOT want to sell the 1/2-way. It s there for upgrades. If the customer needs more than a 1-way, for $2,100 more, you should be selling a 550. The prices for the SAP 550 editions have been reduced. A key new benefit is a choice of either 8 x 70 GB disks (#9613) or 6 x 141 GB disks (#9616). These are only available with the initial order. They are ONLY available for the 520 and 550 SAP editions. This means that the 550 SAP edition was not only reduced in price, but also receives additional no-charge content. A new slightly slower speed and lower priced 16 GB DDR-2 memory feature is announced for the 570. It is compatible on the same processor card with 32 GB memory features, but NOT other memory features. Price is $28,000 (vs. $32,000 for the other existing 16 GB memory feature). Quoting the announcement letter: Compared to the #4497, the #4499 is a lower-priced option that is projected to have very little performance impact for most System i clients assuming they are not memory constrained. IP Telephony is announced including the Software and Service features. These are all shown on a single page after the upgrades section and before the features section. See anno for additional information. Upgrades from #2757 and 5581 disk controller features to #2780 and 5580 respectively are being made available for $1,100. This can increase resiliency and provides a battery that can be replaced without shutting the system down to remove the disk controller. In some situations, the #2780 could also provide increased performance due to the read cache it contains (not on the #2757). PM for System i5 is an i5/os integrated function that automatically monitors and graphs system utilization and growth. Available to the customer in two options: 1) a no charge option providing summary information; and 2) a minimal charge option providing detailed graphs. It can be very useful to IBMers and Business Partners in helping identify upgrade candidates and in sizing the next required upgrade, application addition, server consolidation, etc. via the integration of the customer PM data with the IBM Systems Workload Estimator. IBMers and Business Partners authorized by the customer have access to the detailed graph information regardless of whether the customer is signed up for the no charge summary graph option or the minimal charge detailed graph option. Customers can learn more about their options and getting started at: IBMers can learn more about the sales tools that provide access to the customer data, graphs and how to size upgrades by visiting: Business Partners go to: Search on PM400IS. The Workload Estimator can help with sizing. Go to: Go to the performance and capacity link (in a box near the top of the screen). The second item down is the workload estimator tool. Information to help determine which iseries to use (including information on cpw, number of disks that attach, PCI attachment capabilities, etc.) on a model by model basis is available at the "FACT" tool (Find and Compare Tools) site: Information on withdrawal of hardware features and models is contained in the following announcement letters: Withdrawal Date 8/8/06, 10/3/06, 12/1/06, 5/1/07 6/01/06 1/31/06, 5/02/06, 6/01/06 8/30/05, 12/01/05, 6/01/06 4/12/05, 07/15/05. 10/01/05 Announcement Letter Number Announcement Letter Date 8/08/06 4/04/06 1/31/06 8/30/05 4/12/05 Historical Information on AS/400 models, products, and software that is no longer marketed is contained in the iseries and AS/400 Quick Pricer Archive Documents the original dated 07/02/02, and a newer version with 7xx and withdrawn 8xx information (dated 04/12/05). 5 i520/i550/i570/i595 Product Structure/Changes Information The next 6 pages explain the product structure for the System i5 models announced January 31, Differences from the previous product structure are discussed. The previous product structure remains in place for processor features previously announced. The eserver iseries product line is renamed the IBM System i5. eserver and iseries are no longer correct terms. This change is consistent with changes being made to other IBM systems and is intended to differentiate the functionality of IBM Systems from other vendors servers. Included within the text are various product structure tables that show the number of base i5/os and Enterprise Enablement licenses included in the base price. Additional hardware, i5/os, and Enterprise Enablement (5250 OLTP) licenses can be purchased for $50,000 each. An Enterprise Enablement for unrestricted use on ALL i5/os licensed processors is available on i570 ($150,000) and i595 models ($250,000), but not the i550. After purchasing an unlimited or "Full Enterprise Enablement" on an i570/i595, upgrades to larger processor features within the 570 or within the 595 continue to use the unlimited enablement. When upgrading from a 570 with a Full Enterprise Enablement feature to a 595, the Full Enterprise Enablement is converted for the price difference between the 570 and 595 feature. Express Configurations and Value Editions and Accelerator for System i5 520: Express configurations and Value editions are refreshed with new 1.9 Ghz processors and increases in base cpw to 600/30 and 1200/60. Accelerator features are available on these editions, but NOT on the Standard, Enterprise, or other i520 editions. The accelerator feature provides the capability to increase the 600/30 cpw processor feature to 3100/30 cpw; or the 1200/60 cpw feature to 3800/60 cpw. Except for the 600/30 cpw express editions, the accelerator can be ordered with the initial value/express edition system or at a later date. On the 600/30 value editions (as with all "additional" features added to any express edition), the accelerator can only be ordered as an MES. Like CoD on larger models, the accelerator is a software key rather than a piece of hardware that needs to be installed. The intent of the accelerator is to provide full processor capability for applications that are more compute intensive than traditional i5/os applications. This includes functions such as WebSphere, Java, or Domino. As a side note, smaller memory systems, such as are typical on value/express configurations, will also benefit from a new 32-bit Java capability available with V5R4 of i5/os. This makes an accelerated system very viable for many small companies needing web or other compute-intensive capabilities. A less obvious change provided by the accelerator is that without this feature the 600/30 cpw only can support 2 LPARS and the 1200/60 3 LPARS. With the feature, a full 10 LPARs can be configured. Upgrades are available from the 600/30 to 1200/60 models. If the accelerator had previously been activated on the 600/30 model, it will be converted to the 3800 cpw accelerator as part of the upgrade. Upgrades are NOT available from earlier value/express editions to the processor features announced January IOPless capabilities (see below) are now available. Because of this a no-charge IOP is no longer included within the processor on any of the new i5 models using 1.9 of 2.2 Ghz processors, with the exception of the 9405 express configurations. 1.9 Ghz Express configurations are similar to 1.5 Ghz Express configurations, offering both mirrored and RAID-5 configurations. An area often analyzed is whether to sell a Value edition or Express configuration. To keep the cost down, Express configurations are pre-configured (and often pre-manufactured). The original intent, was to have distributors keep them in stock for immediate delivery. Because of this, additional features must be added as an MES after the initial order, and features cannot be removed from Express configurations prior to shipment. Value editions provide greater initial ordering flexibility. Specific configuration requirements are one consideration when determining which edition to purchase. For example, one feature to consider is the tape drive. For compatibility with older systems being replaced, the express configurations include a 30 GB Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) tape drive. Value edition configurations could instead specify a newer faster internal VXA or LTO-2 tape drive. These drives provide greater speed and capacity, and often allow unattended backup. The VXA-2 (6 Mbps, 80 GB uncompressed ) tape has been reduced to $995, and the VXA-320 (12 Mbps, 160 GB) is announced with a $1,500 price. Other value vs. express considerations include console (twinax is on express) and rack mount (tower is on express). IBM

Model 520 Changes: 520 Models are enhanced with 1.9Ghz Power5+ processors, all of which (except the smallest value/express editions) now have L3 cache (previously only the largest 1-way and 2-way had L3 cache). This cache capability will enhance compute-intensive functions such as WebSphere, Java, Domino, etc. The 1200 cpw processor feature supports 3 LPARs (was 4 on 1000 cpw) and the 2800 feature supports 7 (was 10 on 2400 cpw). The 1/2-way processor feature replaces a 2-way feature. This means that the second processor provides CoD, including on/off capabilities. Therefore, all models in the System i5 product line now have processor features with CoD capabilities. The smallest Standard Edition now has 3800 cpw (was 1000). The price is less than the previous 2400 cpw standard edition. If a customer needs less cpw, a value/express edition may be an option; but most customers using standard editions run compute-intensive activities, and need the additional performance. The number of PCI-X slots in the 1.9 Ghz 520 system unit or CEC remains at six, but one of the slots can now only be used with smart IOAs or IOPless adapters. In some cases, if using all IOAs which need an IOP, this could create a requirement to add an tower/drawer that was not needed with the earlier processor features. The HSL loop previously included is now an optional feature of the 1.9 Ghz 520, but adding it to the system does NOT reduce the number of available PCI-X slots. The #5709 RAID enabler feature has been replaced/ renumbered/renamed as the #5727 Integrated Cache - 40 MB it still supports RAID-5. As before, the suggestion in a workload environment also using 2780/5580 controllers is to usually only place 4 disks on this feature, and if necessary add another controller to support the additional 4 drives that can be installed in the system unit. DDR-2 memory is used with the 1.9 Ghz processor features. It is configured using memory features which ship "pairs" rather than "quads" of memory DIMMs. This allows greater flexibility. The 8 available physical memory slots now allow 4 "pairs", not 2 "quads" of memory features. This usually results in lower priced configurations. The prices of the new DDR-2 memory features are also usually lower than previous memory features. With the new memory, there is no longer memory compatibility on upgrades from 810 models. When upgrading from an older 1.5/1.65 Ghz 520 to a new 1.9 Ghz processor feature, memory must be replaced. There are no memory credits on upgrades. Recognize that when upgrading a processor, additional memory is usually added. With the lower prices, the total DDR-2 memory cost may not be much more expensive than the added DDR-1 memory cost on a 1.5/1.65 Ghz 520. Model i520 Product Structure Table Model i520 1-way 1.5 or 1.65 Ghz 2-way 1.65 Ghz 1-way 1.9 Ghz 1/2-way 1.9 Ghz Standard Edition Proc. ($50,000) 1 1 Model 550 Changes: The model 550 is refreshed with 1.9 Ghz Power5+ processors. Previous editions of the 550 included 2 processor activations. The 1.9 Ghz features include a single activation for the Standard, Enterprise, the new HA, and most Solution editions (Domino and Solution Editions running SAP remain with multiple activations). Each 550 Power5+ processor activation costs $2,100 (processor activations on the original 550 are $3,700). While it is possible to upgrade from the original 550 to the new processor features, it is not expected many customers will do so. This is due to the moderate level of increased performance, the cost of the upgrade (the entire CEC is replaced), and the requirement to replace memory. The fact that there is an upgrade path available should however be a positive sign for existing 550 customers looking further into the future. Memory is now installed in pairs. The same memory features are used on the i520 and i550. See the above i520 discussion for additional information. IBM

There is no direct replacement for the 1/2-way processor feature. Customers needing that level of performance will select between a model i550 and a i570 2/4-way. Previous 5/8-way, 9/12-way, and 13/16-way features are replaced with 4/8-way and 8/16-way features (one less active processor at the "starting point" of each feature). As a "general observation", the same performance can be obtained with about 3/4 as many 2.2 Ghz processors as with the previous 1.65 Ghz processors. This saves both on processor activations and processor-based software licensing (including i5/os). Each processor activation is $14,458 (was $16,199) on the 2.2 Ghz processors and remains at $7,700 on the 1.65 Ghz processor features. With the increase in processing power, it is now possible to upgrade from a 2/4-way to a newer 2/4-way or a 5/8-way to a 4/8-way, etc. These "horizontal" upgrades have not existed in the past. New purchases of Enterprise Editions no longer include an additional processor activation see enterprise edition changes section for additional information. SWMA is included in the price for the i5/os activation included with the purchase of a new system see SWMA section. An IOP is no longer included in the system unit see IOPless section for additional information. The number of 5250 OLTP Enablement licenses included with an Power5+ i570 Enterprise edition has been reduced to 1. With the 2.2 Ghz processors, each 5250 enablement provides about 4200 cpw (was 3000). The change was made to address a common customer concern of "being forced" to purchase more 5250 OLTP than they really wanted/needed (4 licenses minimum for 2/4-way and larger 1.65 Ghz models which remains the case for those features). It also makes it far less expensive when considering a system with mixed i5/os, AIX, and Linux licenses. Pricing for additional enablements has been reduced to $50,000 each (was $100,000 on i550 and $150,000 on i570/i590). For similar processing power, customers needing to purchase a second activation are priced comparably or better than with the earlier models. The 2.2 Ghz processor features require DDR-2 memory. The 570 memory features continue to ship "quads" of memory DIMMs. Pricing is similar to previous DDR-1 memory except for a more expensive 32 GB memory feature. Upgrades to a 2.2 Ghz 570 system will require replacement of all memory features. As with all models, it is NOT possible to have a system with mixed 1.65 Ghz and 2.2 Ghz processors. 8 Reduction from 4 to 1 included licenses occurred July 12, 2005 HW price was reduced by $135,000 at the same time net effect for customers still needing 4 licenses is zero change. Customers running AIX or Linux on some of the processors receive a price benefit. ($50,000) Number of processors with HW activation when shipped. Additional SW licenses will always be needed Enterprise Edition Changes: Changes have been made to the Enterprise Edition content. As a general rule, software content changes affect both the new processor features and the older features, but hardware changes only apply to the new processor features. The Enterprise edition on the Power5+ processor features no longer includes an additional processor activation (i550 and larger) or an IXS (i570 and larger). These features are still included (where applicable) on Enterprise editions using the original processor features. The number of 5250 OLTP enablements included with the i570 has been reduced to one at all processor points (on the original processors, 4-way and larger features still include 4 activations). iscsi and Blades: New iscsi features enable enhanced attachment of xseries servers (including xseries blade servers) via an iscsi interface. This approach is very cost effective compared to IXA connectivity that was previously available. As with the IXS/IXA, the System i5 will provide SAN functionality as well as other significant management capabilities to the attached xseries servers. See anno for more information. Note that the iscsi adapters require i5/os V5R4 and ONLY POWER5 or POWER5+ systems can use these adapters (because they use an IOP-less implementation, which is only supported on i5 systems). i5/os Pricing Changes: i5/os software licenses are now "tiered", with reduced prices for additional activations on the i520 ($24k including SWMA) and the i550 ($44k including SWMA) and higher prices on the i570 and i595 ($59k including SWMA). These price changes will apply to ALL i5 models both those previously available and those being announced. The previous price at all levels was $45 PLUS SWMA. The pricing change puts i5/os (with it's embedded database) more on a par with the approaches used by competitive operating system and database vendors. Smart IOA (IOPless) Capabilities: For a little over a year, IBM has been introducing selected I/O Adapters (IOAs) that do not require the use of an I/O Processor (IOP). This capability is only available on POWER5 systems or later. This trend continues with a number of new adapters being announced. Some of these adapters work in "dual mode" using an IOP if it exists, but not requiring one. Depending on how a given IOA is used, the same piece of hardware may have different feature numbers. This is done to help econfig ensure there are appropriate IOPs IBM

available and allow IBM Manufacturing to build the system. Additional IOPless adapters will be announced in the future; with a goal of eventually totally eliminating the need for IOPs. The ability to eliminate the IOP is based on increased speed and functionality in the IOAs. By eliminating IOPs, costs are eliminated, PCI slots can be better used, and LPAR configuration is greatly simplified. The main processor complex (CEC) of all Power5+ processor features no longer includes an IOP. The original processor features still include the IOP in the CEC. This increases the cost of the CEC on the new processor features by $2,100 IF an IOP is needed. Likewise, PCI-X towers (5094, 5095, 5294, 0595) no longer include an IOP feature and have therefore been reduced in price. If you no longer need the IOP, pricing is improved. If an IOP needs to be added back into the tower, the total price is slightly higher than the previous price for the tower. SoftWare Maintenance (SWMA) Information: The SWMA structure changed on July 12, 2005 for all i5 models with more than 1 processor. Previously a fixed SWMA fee based on the Software Group Tier was charged. Since that time, on new purchases, SWMA is charged on a per processor basis. For processor features announced January 31, 2006, SWMA support is provided at no additional charge for i5/os activation(s) included with the base system. In the past, SWMA was a required feature, but a separate line item appeared in the configuration with a separate price. Now, on the Power5+ processor features, the first year of SWMA is included with the system price. Additional features can be ordered to provide 7 x 24 coverage and/or to extend the coverage to 3 years. No SWMA changes are occurring on existing 1.5 and 1.65 Ghz processor features. As announced July 2005, if additional processor activations are being used for i5/os, there's an i5/os SWMA fee (for the first year) included with the activation. These prices are now adjusted to reflect new i5/os pricing. If used for AIX, there's an AIX SWMA fee, and if used for Linux, the support structure is based on the Linux vendor's offering. No longer is a customer paying for SWMA on the potential number of i5/os licenses on the machine when some of the processors may actually be used by Linux or AIX, or may initially be inactive. NOTE: SWMA is included on "new purchases". For customers upgrading to an i5 from a machine with an existing SWMA, the existing SWMA remains in effect until its expiration. Please see the October 4, 2005 version of the quick pricer if additional detail is needed. Changes to Upgrade and Prices: The prices of the 550, 570, and 595 models announced in January 2006 and upgrades into these models were decreased May 2, The new reduced prices are shown in blue, the previous prices are shown in black. The previous version of the quick pricer included both last year's and this year's upgrade prices into 1.5 and 1.65 Ghz processor 520/550/570/595 models. Upgrades into these models are being withdrawn effective June 1, The current quick pricer ONLY shows "this year's" prices. RoHS: RoHS is an acronym for Reduction of Hazardous Substances. It is an ecologically oriented directive that will be implemented in the European Union, selected other countries, and we believe a few states in the USA. Basically, it states that after July 1, 2006, companies cannot sell machines (in our case computers) or features or parts of these machines that contain even trace amounts of certain substances designated as being hazardous. The specific material could be "anywhere", from inside a chip on a circuit board, to adhesives or lubricants, or even in the paint. If the machine or feature contains such substances, it cannot be sold in those countries after July 1. IBM has been reviewing all the features of all machines we make. Unfortunately, various parts, PCI-cards, etc. have been found that do not meet the standards. Where practical, these features have beere being re-engineered and new "replacement" features have been/will be introduced. In some cases, it is not practical to re-engineer items that are obsolete and/or sell in very low volumes. Why is RoHS important? For the last year, IBM has been announcing the withdrawal of various features to meet RoHS requirements. The August 2005 withdrawal announcement with an effective date of June 1, 2006 included many such features. We expect to be withdrawing several other features before RoHS goes into effect. Some will have "equivalent replacement" features, others will not. IBM

The reason we mention this now is that the withdrawal of some features (due to RoHS) could be viewed as a "decommitment" from a type of hardware or technology. This will usually NOT be the case; but a RoHS-imposed restriction where re-engineering a replacement part could not be financially justified. Reasons for a lack of justification would typically be low anticipated volumes and/or features that have long-since been replaced with newer approaches (for example Token-Ring being superseded by newer, faster Ethernet adapters and switches). If one has never heard of RoHS, using it as the reason why a product is being withdrawn could sound like an "excuse" (even though it is a legitimate reason). By knowing that RoHS exists, it's easier to recognize the realities pertaining to products/features withdrawn for lack of RoHS compatibility. July 11 and August 8, 2006 Changes CBU Edition Changes: The July 11 and August 8 announcements changed several terms and conditions surrounding the CBU editions. Effective August 11, additional processors MAY be permanently activated on the CBU editions. Also, i5/os licenses and Enterprise enablements can transfer from a designated "primary" Enterprise edition onto the CBU edition. This movement requires that the processor hardware is already activated. The movement of licenses is very useful when performing "role swapping" between the Enterprise and the CBU machines. Because of these changes, future purchases of CBU editions will require registration before the product can be shipped. Customers with existing CBU systems now receive the additional functionality. In the process of making these changes, the number of i5/os licenses on the i570 2/16-way edition was reduced from 2 to 1. On August 8 additional CBU editions (both Standard and enterprise-enabled editions) were announced for the i550 (1/4-way), i570 (1/4 and 4/8-way), and i595 (2/16-way). These were alluded to an a product preview in the July 11 announcement. See announcement letters and CBU Web Site is: i595 Changes New DDR2 memory is available for the i595. It can only be used on the 1.9 Ghz processor features. All memory on the entire system must be either DDR1 or DDR2. Use of DDR2 memory can allow the machine to run slightly faster (no where near enough to justify replacing DDR1 memory). For most features, DDR2 memory is considerably less expensive than DDR1 memory. DDR2 memory is configured differently than DDR1 memory. DDR1 memory has 2-4 and 4-8 GB features. The DDR2 features are 0-4 and 0-8 GB; however, a minimum of 2 or 4 GB of Memory on Demand must be permanently activated when the respective card is installed. (i.e. the configuration requirements of the 0-4 GB feature require that 2 GB be activated). An engineering change is being made to the i595 models. Pricing, performance and functionality are not affected. The new feature codes ensure "older and newer" processor features are not "mixed" on the same machine (which does not work). Thin Console A "thin console" is announced. It is mutually exclusive with the HMC. It provides "green screen" console functions using the HMC port. This feature can be used instead of a "twinax console" which could result in a twinax adapter (and potentially an IOP) no longer being needed (thus saving PCI slots). i520 Announcements The 520 Express editions have been modified to allow the "thin console" to be used instead of a twinax console. Also, 520 Express editions will come with V5R4 as of August 11. If a customer requires an express edition with V5R3, order it prior to that time, or be prepared to need to load it manually. A new Solution edition is i520 announced for use with Oracle (formerly JDE) applications. placement capabilty formerly available on the 550 through 595 is now also available for the 520. This is especially important for LPAR environments. IBM
