2 Management Console Licensed Machine Code Version 7 (#0962). The Hardware Management Console Licensed Machine Code Version 7 may also be ordered via MES for 7310 HMCs for environments that may include POWER5, POWER5+, and POWER6 processor-based servers. Version 7 is not available for the 7315 HMCs. The new user interface is designed with ease-of-use enhancements, including task navigation with more consistent task placement and categorization as well as the display of additional information in the main resource views. In addition, the HMC user interface provides powerful table functionality with filtering, sorting, and customization of views on a per-user basis. An HMC is required to manage System p servers implementing temporary Capacity on Demand (CoD), including Trial CoD, On/Off CoD, and Reserve CoD. An HMC is recommended for use with all CoD offerings. The System p5 575, 590, and 595, and System i5 595 servers must be managed by an HMC. For System p5 servers except the System p5 570, 575, 590, and 595, customers may either use the Integrated Virtualization Manager (IVM), part of the optional Advanced POWER Virtualization (APV), or an HMC to manage partitioning. The System p 570 and System p5 570 servers require an HMC to manage partitioning. An HMC is required to manage a System i 595 server. An HMC is required for a System i 515, 525, 550, 570, or 595 server to implement more than one i5/os partition, an AIX 5L operating system partition, or a Linux operating system partition directly controlling its I/O. An HMC is also required for systems using CoD for processor or memory activation. System i models do not support IVM with i5/os V5R4. The HMC offers serviceability tools for the systems it controls. The HMC is connected to a dedicated port on the service processor of the system via an Ethernet connection. The Ethernet connections from HMC to System p5 575 and 590, and System i5 595 must be via private LAN with the HMC configured as a DHCP server, whereas other System p or System i5 systems can be either on a private or public LAN. LAN tools, such as call-home and error log notification, are available through a modem or the Internet (SSL supported for call-home via HTTPS) for determining problems and providing service support. Multiple POWER5, POWER5+, or POWER6 processor-based servers can be managed by one HMC, either physically attached to the server or logically attached over a LAN. 8 CAN C22.2 No NOM-019 (11) Hardware requirements The 7042 HMCs are designed to support environments including POWER5, POWER5+, and POWER6 processor-based servers. POWER5 and POWER5+ servers must have firmware SF240, or later, installed before being managed by a 7042 HMC or 7310 HMC with feature number 0962 installed. The 7042-CR4 mounts in a 19-inch system rack. The IBM 7014-T00, -T42, and -S25 racks are recommended for System p servers. For System i5 server configurations (MT 9405/9406), feature numbers 0551, 0553, and 0555 represent the same racks as the 7014-T00, -T42, and -S25, respectively. To help ensure proper air flow for cooling, the 7042-CR4 requires a rack with a perforated door, such as the IBM 7014-T00, -T42, or -S25 (System i5 #0551, #0553, or #0555 ). The front door must be removed if the 7042-CR4 is mounted in a rack where the door panel is of solid construction. Each HMC must have access to a graphics display, a keyboard, and a mouse. In addition to the displays offered as features of the HMC, the IBM 7316-TF3 rack-mounted display and associated KVM switch is supported for the 7042-CR4. The 7316 display is recommended for situations where space is constrained and should be used with a travel keyboard and mouse. USB keyboards and mouse that are feature numbers of the HMC are too large to fit in the drawer with the 7316-TF3. A logical connection between the HMC and each active partition on the POWER5 server via a network is recommended. It is required for servers operating in dynamic LPAR mode. The 7042-C06 Deskside HMC has one physical Ethernet port. The 7042-CR4 Rack-mounted HMC has two physical Ethernet ports. The IBM 2-Port 10/100/1000 Base-TX Ethernet PCI-X Adapter (#5706) should be ordered to provide additional physical Ethernet connections. Each server partition will have a physical connection to the network, and the HMC will be logically connected to each partition via its connection to the network. This connection is used to: Provide additional systems management, such as remote sharing support for i5/os system console sessions Collect and pass hardware service events to the HMC for automatic notification of error conditions to IBM Collect the total system inventory Using the System Plan task, inventory and partition profile attributes can also be collected and viewed via the System Plan Viewer, providing a full system report. One Ethernet connection is required for each server controlled by the console. Either a serial port for modem attachment or an Ethernet connection is required if the Service Agent call-home function is implemented. Information regarding HMC control of clustered servers under the control of CSM for AIX 5L and CSM for Linux on POWER software can be found in the IBM System Cluster 1600 Facts and Features Report available at sters/hardware/factsfeatures.html Information regarding supported Linux distributions on System p and System i servers is available at If redundant HMC function is desired, the servers can be attached to two separate HMCs to address availability requirements. Environments may include 7310-C03, -C04, -C05, -C06 -CR2, -CR3, and -CR4, as well as 7042-C06 and -CR4 HMCs. All HMCs must have the same level of Hardware Management Console Licensed Machine Code Version 7 (#0962) to manage POWER6 processor-based servers or an environment with a mixture of POWER5, POWER5+, and POWER6 processor-based servers. Higher availability configurations may require the use of an Ethernet hub. An Ethernet hub will provide a physical connection from the HMC to each server rather than a logical Ethernet IBM United States Announcement IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 8

9 connection over a LAN. Software requirements: The following Web browsers have been tested for connection support with the HMC LMC V7: Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0, or later Firefox , or later Limitations The HMC is a dedicated-function device used only for the control and service functions of the POWER5, POWER5+, and POWER6 processor-based servers it manages. It is not available for use as a general purpose computing resource. Each console must be configured with a graphics display, a keyboard, and a mouse. Various native language keyboards are planned to be available for the console. The IBM Network Manager Code is not available on the Hardware Management Console Licensed Machine Code, Version 7 (#0962), and it is not supported on the POWER6 processor-based servers for Infiniband Switches. Previous levels of the Hardware Management Console Licensed Machine Code Version 4, Version 5, and Version 6 (#0961) continue support of the IBM Network Manager Code for POWER5 processor-based servers for Infiniband Switches. Version 7 (#0962) users must use third-party switch management code to support their Infiniband Switches. The documents that IBM makes available to support installation and operation of the HMC are available in the supported languages at the time of announce. The HMC menus and display information will be available only in English at the time of announce. Until the translated HMC machine code is available for download or orderable on CD in the language ordered, IBM will make the following services available at no additional charge to clients who order an HMC with a Language Specify code other than English. This limited time offer is intended to support clients that lack the administrative skills to use the English language screens to set up their systems without the translated machine code for the HMC menus and display information and will not extend past the date those translations for download or on CD are made available by IBM. Contact the IBM Hardware Support Center (using the method you would normally use to obtain support for your hardware), and ask for Hardware Support. Be sure to have your HMC machine type and serial number available. Indicate that you have problems with installing the HMC using the English screens. An IBM SSR may be dispatched to your site and perform the following tasks (estimated total duration: 3 hours) a. Install the HMC. b. Configure the HMC. c. Ensure the HMC is operational. The HMC and attached servers will not be accessible to you while the SSR is working. After installation, you can contact your IBM Software Support Center for remote assistance with any English-language messages displayed on the HMC. If an onsite visit is required to further interpret the English language text on the HMC screen, IBM may dispatch an IBM SSR to assist on site. IBM plans to offer translated menus and control information in the following HMC Specify Languages beginning third quarter 2007: Brazilian Portuguese Catalan Czech Republic Dutch English French IBM United States Announcement IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 9

Any reliance on these statements of general direction is at the relying party's sole risk and will not create liability or obligation for IBM. HMC Machine Code is available for download at webapp/set2/sas/f/hmc/home.html Planning information Cable orders: One Ethernet cable is required to attach the HMC to the system CPC. This cable can be customer-supplied or purchased from IBM. Security, auditability, and control This product uses the security and auditability features of the server operating system. Use of these facilities is optional. For servers with the i5/os operating system, the security measures supplied by i5/os are designed to reduce the risk of users changing or destroying data resources, but do not prevent it. The i5/os security features include the use of passwords, a security option to limit a user to only the functions provided by customer-designed menus, and a security option to limit read/write access for files, libraries, and folders during normal operations. To achieve increased security, the i5/os controls should be combined with physical security, division of duties, and other appropriate measures. This product uses the security and auditability features of the AIX 5L for POWER V5.2 or V5.3 operating system on an AIX partition that the HMC controls. The HMC network connection to the partitions is based on a component of IBM's Reliable, Scalable Cluster Technology (RSCT) called Resource Monitoring and Control (RMC). The only operations permitted through this connection are hardware error event collection and hardware inventory data collection, dynamic LPAR resource movement coordination for AIX and Linux partitions, and partition shutdown and reboot for AIX and Linux partitions. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities. IBM Electronic Services Electronic Service Agent and the IBM Electronic Services Web portal comprise the IBM Electronic Services solution dedicated to providing fast, exceptional support to IBM eserver customers. IBM Electronic Service Agent is a no-charge tool that proactively monitors and reports hardware events, such as system errors, performance issues and inventory. Electronic Service Agent can help you stay focused on your company's strategic business initiatives, save time, and spend less effort managing day-to-day IT maintenance issues. 11 to you! Now integrated with the HMC and AIX 5.3 TL6, Electronic Service Agent is designed to automatically and electronically report system failures and utilization issues to IBM, which can result in faster problem resolution and increased availability. System configuration and inventory information collected by Electronic Service Agent also can be viewed on the secure Electronic Services web portal, and used to improve problem determination and resolution by you and the IBM support team. As part of an increased focus to provide even better service to IBM customers, Electronic Service Agent tool configuration and activation comes standard with your System p 9117-MMA. Your IBM Systems Support representative will configure Service Agent at system installation time. In support of this effort, a new security whitepaper has been published, which describes data that is exchanged between the HMC and the IBM Service Delivery Center (SDC) and the methods and protocols for this exchange. To read the whitepaper and prepare for Electronic Service Agent installation, go to the "Reference Guide" section of The Electronic Services web portal is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. This Web portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The newly improved My Systems and Premium Search functions make it even easier for Electronic Service Agent-enabled customers to track system inventory and find pertinent fixes. Benefits Increased uptime: Electronic Service Agent is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the symptoms, diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. 24x7 monitoring and reporting means no more dependence on human intervention or off-hours customer personnel when errors are encountered in the middle of the night. Security Electronic Service Agent is secure monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM. Electronic Service Agent securely transmits either via the Internet (HTTPS) or modem, and can be configured to communicate securely through gateways to provide customers a single point of exit from their site. Communication is one way IBM cannot call into a customer system. System inventory information is stored in a secure database which is protected behind IBM firewalls. It is treated as confidential information, viewable only by the customer and IBM. Customers' business applications or business data is never transmitted to IBM. More accurate reporting Since system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support center in conjunction with the service request, customers aren't required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM, problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record. Customized support Using the IBM ID entered during activation, customers can view system and support information in the My Systems and "Premium Search" sections of the Electronic Services Web site at My Systems provides formatted reports of hardware and software that is installed using information collected from the systems by IBM Electronic Service Agent. Reports are available for any system associated with the customer's IBM ID. Premium Search combines the function of search and the value of Electronic Service Agent information to provide advanced searching of the technical support knowledgebase. Using Premium Search and the Service Agent information that has been collected from your system, customers are able to see search results that apply specifically to their systems.
