3 Strava Desktop Website Signing Up In your web browser, navigate to You can sign-up to Strava through either your Facebook or Google accounts or by using your address. When you have entered all your details, click the sign up button. Note: If you are a returning user, you will need to select the Login button in the top right of the screen. To log in, enter your details or tick the Remember me box and then select the Log In button. 3

4 Customising Your Profile When logging in for the first time, you will be asked to customise your experience. If you do not wish to do this, you can continue without specifying. Note: The default website homepage is the Strava Dashboard which lists recent activities from athletes in the Strava community. This will change when you start following specific athletes. When on your Dashboard, navigate to the profile icon at the top of the page, second from the right, and select Settings from the drop-down list. 4

5 When accessing your profile for the first time, you will be asked whether you would like to find and invite friends to Strava via either or Facebook. Whilst this step can be skipped, it is a good way to start following athletes who you already know. Alternatively, if you already know people who are part of the Strava community, you can click on the magnifying glass icon next to the Strava logo at the top of the page and then enter the name of the athlete you are looking for. When you have found the athlete/person you were looking for, click on the name and you will be taken to their profile. Click on the Follow button beneath their name and their activities will now show up in your dashboard. If you wish to unfollow an account, simply click the button again. After finding and inviting your friends, complete your profile by adding a picture and checking that your basic statistics are updated. 5

6 The default measurement for Kick Off! is kilometres. Whilst the display preferences are unique to each user, you may wish to change yours for easy comparisons with other athletes. In the side panel, select Display Preferences and then choose Miles and Pounds or Kilometres and Kilograms from the drop-down menu in the Units & Measurements field. To change, select the Save button. Note: Your default sport is what the Strava mobile app will log your activity to should you not amend it. As Strava is primarily a running and cycling community, these are the only two options, but you can manually enter other activities via the website. See page 11. As Strava is an open community, your activities can be accessed by any user. To enhance your privacy settings, navigate to the Privacy tab in the side panel and select your desired level. Note: If you select to enhance your privacy settings, you must accept every follow request, for other athletes to view your activities. 6

7 If you choose not to accept the enhanced privacy mode, you can still increase your privacy settings by hiding your start and finish locations. Enter your address in to the dialogue box and it will be hidden whenever you pass within 500m. 7

8 Uploading an Activity To upload an activity from your wearable GPS device, navigate to the plus icon at the top of the page, first on the right, and select Upload activity from the drop-down menu. If uploading directly from a device, select the Get Started button for the relevant brand and follow the steps to connect and then upload. To upload directly from a file either select the File tab in the side panel or click on the upload files directly link in the device pop-up box. Note: Remember to log your activity as soon as possible to ensure it is included in the automatic leader board update. 8

9 Adding a Manual Entry If you have tracked an activity on a GPS app (Nike+, Google Fit, Runkeeper, Map My Run etc) or device (Misfit, Jawbone etc) that is not linked to Strava, or on gym equipment such as a treadmill or rowing machine, you can manually upload your data on the desktop website. To add a manual entry, navigate to the plus icon at the top of the page, first on the right, and select Add manual entry from the drop-down menu. Depending on the activity you re logging, enter the distance you travelled and the time it took, and/or the elevation. For an activity that didn t involve distance, simply enter the time you spent on the activity e.g. workout or yoga. 9

10 Select the sport from the drop-down menu. There are a large variety to choose from. Note: If you took part in a sport that isn t displayed on the drop-down list select the activity most similar to it (e.g for a gym class like HIIT, Zumba or Pilates you can select Workout ). Enter a title for your activity to distinguish it from the others on the dashboard feed. For running, cycling and swimming, the type, tags, and shoes are not mandatory fields. Note: As this year s campaign focus is pushing yourself to do more activities than you usually would, we are not asking you to log daily steps so a polite notice for no bulk uploads please. All manual uploads must be logged as an activity. For example: lunchtime walk, 5km, 45 minutes. If you can add evidence, even better. Simply take a photo using your mobile device of your completed activity, i.e. gym treadmill session, 10km, 60 mins and upload it to your Strava entry. Select the Create button to save, and this will now show in your activity feed. 10

11 Strava Mobile App - iphone Getting Started The Strava mobile app can be downloaded on to your ios device from the App Store. On iphone, select the blue App Store icon to enter the store and click the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the screen, first on the right. Type Strava into the search bar and select the top result. Touch the Install button and type in your Apple ID if prompted. When downloaded, touch the Open icon to enter the app. Note: Strava is a free app but does offer in-app purchases. You will not be charged anything for downloading the app. 11

12 Create an account or log in to the app using the details used on the desktop website. When using the app for the first time, you will be asked whether you would like to receive notifications from Strava. This will include alerts whenever someone comments or gives you kudos on an activity. It can be configured in Settings on your device. The activity feed shows the recent activities of all the people you are following and can be configured by selecting the Feed Following tab at the top and selecting the desired club. 12

13 Recording an Activity To record an activity, select the circular icon in the centre at the bottom of the screen. To track the activity, you will need to allow Strava to access your location and then accept the terms & conditions of use. Determine the type of activity you are about to do (run or cycle) by selecting the shoe/bicycle icon in the top left of the screen. Your location will now be configured by GPS. To start, select the circular icon at the bottom of the screen. Note: To add a manual activity, select the orange plus icon in the top left of the screen. 13

14 Your time, average pace, splits and distance are updated in real time as you progress. When you have completed your activity, press the orange circle icon at the bottom of the screen. To finish the activity, select the chequered flag icon. Note: You can resume your activity by selecting the circular icon to the left of the chequered flag. 14

15 Upon finishing the activity, you are now able to edit the details prior to logging on the Strava servers. To edit the name of the activity, simply click in the Name dialogue box. If you took a photo during your activity, this can be uploaded by selecting the dashed Add a photo icon. Select the activity category from the drop-down menu in the Sport tab. To delete the activity, select the dustbin icon at the bottom of the screen. Save the activity by selecting the orange Save button at the top of the screen. The activity will then show up in the dashboard feed and be viewable by your followers. Note: Remember to log your activity as soon as possible to ensure it is included in the automatic leaderboard update. 15

16 Adjusting Settings To adjust your privacy settings, connect devices and apps, and view the Strava FAQs, select the More icon at the bottom of the screen. To adjust the in-activity settings, select the horizontal abacus icon in the bottom left of the screen when on the Record page. Turning the Auto-Pause function on will pause your recording when stationary during the activity. For audio notifications during your activity select the Audio Cues icon and choose how often you want the reminders (off, half mile or mile) and whether you want live segment performances. 16

17 Strava Mobile App - Android Getting Started The Strava mobile app can be downloaded on to your Android device from Google Play. On your device, select the Play Store icon and type Strava into the Google Play search bar. Touch the Install button and press skip when asked for your credit card details. Select the green Accept button to start the installation and Open to start the app. Note: Strava is a free app but does offer in-app purchases. You will not be charged anything for downloading the app. 17

18 Create an account or log in to the app using the details used on the desktop website. The activity feed shows the recent activities of all the people you are following and can be configured by selecting either the Following, Me, or Clubs tabs. 18

19 Recording an Activity To record an activity, select the Feed icon in the top left of the screen and then choose the Record Activity option when prompted. Determine the type of activity you are about to do (run or cycle) by selecting the shoe/bicycle icon in the top left of the screen. Note: When creating your profile, you can choose your default sport, which in this case is running. Your location will now be configured by GPS. To start, select the circular icon at the bottom of the screen. Note: To add a manual activity, select the white plus icon in the top right of the screen. 19

20 Your time, split average pace, and distance are updated in real time as you progress. When you have completed your activity, press the orange circle icon at the bottom of the screen. To finish the activity, select the chequered flag icon. Note: You can resume your activity by selecting the circular icon to the left of the chequered flag. 20

If you took a photo during your activity, this can be uploaded by selecting the dashed Add a photo icon. Select the activity category from the drop-down menu in the Sport tab (shown here as Run ). To delete the activity, press the vertical dotted icon in the top right of the screen and select the discard option. Save the activity by selecting the orange Save button at the bottom of the screen. The activity will then show up in the dashboard feed and be viewable by your followers. Note: Remember to log your activity as soon as possible to ensure it is included in the automatic leader board update. 21

22 Adjusting Settings To adjust your settings, including privacy, press the vertical dotted icon in the top right of the screen and select the settings option.
