3 Introduction Welcome to Qatar University Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC). LARC is a state of the art newly-designed building with a finely-controlled environment to ensure the humane care and well-being of the animals. LARC is the first of its kind at Qatar that offers a great opportunity for scientists, faculty and research students to utilize laboratory animals as a valuable asset to research and demonstrate scientific data in the biomedical and medical fields, such as studying biological processes, investigating the causes of diseases and testing new treatments and therapies. Humans and animals such as rats and mice have similar body organs and organ systems which perform the same functions in a very similar way. Therefore, laboratory animal models such as rats and mice are the most used animal models in biomedical research for the benefit of human well-being. The primary function of the LARC is the breeding and husbandry of specific pathogen-free small laboratory animals for research and teaching. The Center also provides veterinary care and training programs on animal handling, animal care and husbandry, laboratory animal disease diagnosis, anaesthesia, animal surgery, and euthanasia. All operation and procedures at LARC are governed by policies and procedures which in compliance with Qatar University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and the Association for Accreditation and Assessment of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC). 4 Vision / Mission Our Vision To pioneer in laboratory animal care, driving research innovations from bench to bedside. Our Mission The Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC) of Qatar University is committed to provide quality animal husbandry and veterinary care to support the leading role of the University in education, and research as well as the local research community when it is possible. LARC is devoted to advise, educate and train researchers, staff and students on animal experimentation matters and to promote and ensure humane care and use of animals through compliance with International and University policies for the humane care and use of animals. 03 LARC Brand Guidelines If you have any questions regarding the use of the guidelines contact the External Relations Department

5 The Logo Single colour logos are also supplied for use where colour cannot be used. These may also be supplied for use where special treatments such as embossing are needed. When reproducing the LARC logo on special materials, it is important to use the correct master artwork files. For special material finishes, use the single colour logo only; never reproduce the logo at its minimum size on special materials or finishes. 7 Recommend Size 30 mm A3 25 mm 20 mm 25 mm A4 17 mm Logotype minimum width To specify the size of the primary logo, always measure across the width of it as shown. The primary logo master artworks can be enlarged or reduced in size. All vector files do not have a maximum size, but do adhere to a minimum size. JPEG and PNG RGB files have a maximum size to avoid pixilation when scaled beyond a certain point. Always ensure that the primary logo is scaled in proportion and is not distortedin any way. 8 Improper Logo Usage For consistency, our logos should always be taken from the master artworks supplied and should not be altered or modified in any way. The examples below reinforce our understanding of the correct application of our logos. Don t Distort Use caution not to change the proportion of the logo when resizing it. Don t Enclose in a Shape Don t enclose the logo in a box or any other shape. Don t Use Drop Shadows Don t use drop shadows or any other type of graphic embellishment on the logo. Don t Rotate Don t rotate the logo to create a diagonal position. Don t lose contrast Do not place the logo on a dark background.
