2 Prepare Your Workstations for MLabs Connect MLabs Connect (MLC) requires certain minimum versions of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and specific configuration settings for Internet Explorer. This document identifies the system requirements for MLabs Connect. These requirements must be met by the workstation from which MLC is accessed. It is important to ensure that your workstations meet the requirements prior to beginning to use MLC. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR MLABS CONNECT MLC requires the following software versions and configuration settings: Microsoft Windows. Microsoft Windows workstations must be running Windows 7 or later. Microsoft Internet Explorer. Microsoft Windows workstations must be running Internet Explorer Version 9 or later. Trusted Site. The MLabs Connect website must be included in the Trusted sites zone in Internet Explorer. Pop-up Blocker. The Pop-up blocker in Internet Explorer must be disabled. Print Control. The MeadCo ScriptX Print Control is required for printing from MLC. MLABS CONNECT REQUIRES MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 OR LATER Support for Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Vista has been discontinued for the current version of MLC. If your workstation is currently running one of these operating systems, you must upgrade to a newer version of Microsoft Windows. Windows 7 and later are compatible with MLC. MLABS CONNECT REQUIRES MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER 9 OR LATER Support for Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 8 and older has been discontinued for the current version of MLC. If your workstation is currently running one of these versions of the browser, you must upgrade to a newer version of Microsoft Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer 9 and later are compatible with MLC. Microsoft Edge is a new browser introduced by Microsoft in Windows 10. Microsoft Edge is not considered a version of Internet Explorer and is not supported for MLC MLAB-IT-PROC-0001 Page 1

3 THE MLABS CONNECT WEBSITE MUST BE IN THE TRUSTED SITES ZONE Microsoft Internet Explorer has security configuration settings that enable certain features of the browser for "trusted" websites. This is a protection against potential malicious software that may be present on websites that could be browsed casually. Some websites rely upon features that require them to be identified as trusted sites. IMPORTANT! MLabs Connect must be a trusted site in Internet Explorer. Add the MLabs Connect Website to the Trusted Sites Zone Modifying the trusted sites may require administrative access to the workstation. If you are unable to make this change, contact your local IT support representative From the Tools menu, select Internet Options If you do not see the menu bar at the top of the Internet Explorer window, press and release the <Alt> key to display it On the Internet Options screen, select the Security tab On the Security tab, select the Trusted sites zone Select the Sites button to open the Trusted sites screen On the Trusted sites screen, enter into the Add this website to the zone field Select Add Select Close MLAB-IT-PROC-0001 Page 2

4 THE POP-UP BLOCKER IN INTERNET EXPLORER MUST BE DISABLED IMPORTANT! MLabs Connect requires that the pop-up blocker be disabled in Internet Explorer. The Pop-up Blocker can either be disabled for all sites or selectively disabled for the MLC web site. Both procedures are provided here. Modifying the pop-up blocker setting may require administrative access to the workstation. If you are unable to make this change, contact your local IT support representative. Disable the Pop-up Blocker for All Sites From the Tools menu, select Pop-up Blocker, then Turn off Pop-up Blocker If you do not see the menu bar at the top of the Internet Explorer window, press and release the <Alt> key to display it. If the menu item says Turn on Pop-up Blocker, the Pop-up Blocker is already disabled. MLAB-IT-PROC-0001 Page 3

6 MLABS CONNECT REQUIRES THE MEADCO SCRIPTX PRINT CONTROL IMPORTANT! In order for reports to print properly, MLabs Connect requires the MeadCo ScriptX Print Control to be installed on the workstation. There are two ways to install the MeadCo ScriptX Print Control: 1. Manual installation from downloaded installation media 2. Automatic installation during the MLabs Connect login process Install the MeadCo ScriptX Print Control Manually An administrator can install the print control manually. The print control can be downloaded from the vendor's website. Resource MeadCo ScriptX Print Control installation files can be downloaded using this link. MLAB-IT-PROC-0001 Page 5

7 Install the MeadCo ScriptX Print Control Automatically When the print control is not already installed, a prompt to install it will occur automatically during the login to MLC. Installing the print control requires administrative access to the workstation. If you are unable to make this change, contact your local IT support representative. Open the MLabs Connect login page, Enter your User Name and Password Select Login You will be prompted to Click OK after the MeadCo ScriptX Print Control ActiveX installation has completed. You may also be prompted to allow MeadCo s ScriptX Client to make changes to the computer. If prompted, select Yes to allow the changes to be made MLAB-IT-PROC-0001 Page 6
