3 1. Sea Traffic Management System, STM 1.1 General A Sea Traffic Management system, STM, is designed to assist mariner to communicate with other mariners at sea and with service provider on-shore. For this purpose a STM module, Gate-1, is connected between ECDIS and satellite communication system. Figure 1. 4 1.2 Acronyms AIS CPA ECDIS ETA PTA RTA RCPA RTCPA STM Automatic identification System is an automatic tracking system used on ships and by vessel traffic services (VTS). Closest Point of Approach refers to the positions at which two dynamically moving objects reach their closest possible distance. This is an important calculation for collision avoidance. Electronic Chart Display and Information System. Estimated Time of Arrival. Planned Time of Arrival. Recommended Time of Arrival. predicted range of closest point of monitored route and route of STM AIS target. predicted time to RCPA. Sea Traffic Management connects and updates the maritime world in real time, with efficient information exchange. S-124 Area message format used in STM. TCPA VP VTS XTD Time of CPA. Voyage Plan, route plan together with all necessary information for sea voyage. Vessel Traffic Service. Cross Track Distance is distance measured from vessel location to center line of monitored route. 4

5 1.3 Color coding In ECDIS screen there are used green and yellow colors to indicate following: - Received message in STM - Doubtful speen and/or position if STM AIS target Received message in STM When STM is turned on text color on STM button is green. When text STM is turned to yellow, it is indicating that message has received to Inbox. Open STM PC to see new message. When message has read text STM turn back to green Doubtful speed and/or position of STM AIS target A STM AIS target with monitored route can be seen on ECDIS. Presentation of route of STM AIS target is based on information received in AIS message from the target. If received route with speed planned for leg is not within set limits STM AIS route is displayed in yellow color. Additionally in AIS target info window RCPA and RTCPA fields are shown in yellow color. See figures below. 5

FUNCTIONS 2.1 Introduction There are several functions which can be done by Sea Traffic Management system. - Route share ship to ship using AIS messages. o Other vessels monitored route can be displayed on ECDIS. o Calculation of route CPA and TCPA based on route exchange information. o Route trial maneuver to predict where vessels are in certain time period. - Sharing of monitored route (Voyage Plan) to port authorizes and service providers. o It can be selected by user with whom monitored route is shared. - Sharing of other route to shore. o You can export any route from ECDIS. - Communication ship<-> shore in Port Call Message Format. o Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) o Recommend Time of Arrival (RTA) - Communication in free text message o To shore o To other vessels 6

7 3. SETTINGS 3.1 How to change settings of STM Click STM button and then select SETTING. A STM dialog in General tab you can define Shipping Company and RTZ version (1.1 STM). Check Pop-up ETA if you want to get RTA shown on display whenever received from the port. 7

8 3.2 How to activate STM function User can activate STM function in ECDIS. Use NAVI or PLAN mode, then STM button appears to left side of display where you can select FUNCTION and then select ON. Color of STM button turns green after switching STM function ON. 8

9 4 STM PC 4.1 General You can operate STM PC on ECDIS display. Click STM button and then select STM PC. There are several tabs available in STM PC. In Inbox tab it is available messages which can be as text message, S124 area message or rtz route message. Port tab is to send ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) to destination port and receive RTA (Recommended Time of Arrival) from the Port. In VTS tab a list of VTS available is displayed. You can select to which VTS monitored route and/or exported route is sent. In Services tab it is listed all available services in STM for the vessel. In Vessels tab it is listed all available vessels in STM In Log tab all events of the vessel is listed (stored in Furuno cloud service). In Local Log events on STM PC is listed. 9

10 4.1.1 Inbox Messages In Inbox tab you can find messages received by STM PC. If you are interested to see what is content of message you can click Send to ECDIS button. Area Message (S124) Area message is shown in list of AREA MSG: Click AREA MSG button Double click message you want see. Area will be displayed in middle of ECDIS display. Additional information is available by Cursor Pick. 10

11 Text message (txt) Text message is shown in list of TEXT MSG: Click TEXT MSG button If there is listed geographical area in message it is displayed middle of ECDIS display. Otherwise it is displayed in Chat. 11

12 Route message (rtz) If you want to use received route in ECDIS, click send to ECDIS button. In ECDIS following dialogue appears: You can view received route and do the following things: Check route Save for Later use. Then it is available on ECDIS as normal route. Reject if it is not needed. Switch to monitor mode if it is checked first. 12

13 4.1.2 Ports You can send Planned Time of Arrival (PTA) to destination port of Voyage Plan VTS You can select if Monitored route or Exported route is sent to one or more VTS. 13

14 4.1.4 Services You can select if Monitored route or Exported route is sent to one or more Service providers. 14

16 4.1.6 Log and Local Log In Log tab you can view what has happen in Furuno cloud server. In Local log tab you can view what has happen in STM PC. 16

17 4.1.7 Statistics In Statistics tab you can view various tables of connections between ship and shore. 17

ROUTE SHARING BY AIS 5.1 Settings of AIS Route Sharing You can set: Route sharing ON/OFF Color of shared route Display Active Target Set Deviation parameters for indication of shared AIS route How to activate route sharing by AIS You can select STM->SETTING Open AIS Route Sharing tab. Check Route Sharing by AIS If you want route to be displayed automatically, you can select Active target. Then route of AIS target is displayed when AIS target is active. 18

19 5.1.2 How to Set Deviation indication You can set deviation indication for shared AIS route. You can set XTD limit [NM] and Speed difference limit [kn]. Displaying of deviation indication is based on information received by AIS. If XTD or Speed difference limit is exceeded then shared AIS route is displayed in yellow color. In left side screenshot AIS target speed and position are within limits, but in right side screenshot they are outside. 19

20 5.2 AIS symbol of vessel using STM function If AIS message contains route information it is shown [STM] before vessel name. Additionally planned speed is shown together with triangle as shown above. 5.3 How to get AIS target s route displayed You can select STM->SETTING In Option Auto Display you can select AIS target s route to be displayed: - for Active AIS targets - by setting value of Route CPA and Route TCPA. 20

21 5.4 Route Trial Maneuver Route Trial maneuver can be used to show on ECDIS where own ship and AIS target are after certain time. This information is calculated based on: Planned speed of AIS target (received with route information). Planned speed or set manual speed for own ship. You can select STM->TRIAL When you choose option Planned then calculation of RCPA (= predicted range of closest point of monitored route and route of STM AIS target) and RTCPA RCPA (= predicted time to RCPA) is done using planned speed set in monitor route both own ship and AIS target. When you choose option Manual then calculation of RCPA and RTCPA is done using manual speed for own ship and planned speed set in monitor route for AIS target. RCPA is marked with x on both routes. When Route Trial Manouver is active mark T is on ECDIS display. To stop Route Trial manouver click close button in this dialog. 21

22 6. Route Planning 6.1 Voyage ID, Departure Port and Arrival Port Route Planning is done in normal way, see Operator s Manual of Furuno ECDIS FMD-3200 for more information about route planning. In STM version a new tab STM is for defining a few things for route used by STM system. Voyage ID is unique identification for voyage plan which is used to identify route used by the vessel. This voyage id is used with route plan in this name. If necessary you can create new Voyage ID by clicking Generate New ID. Route Status can be changed in Route Status field. 23 7. Route monitoring 7.1 Introduction You can select to whom monitored route is sent in service tab. In this page you have a list services available. Whenever you select route in monitor mode, route is automatically sent to service providers you have checked in this tab. 23

24 7.2 How to send Planned Time of Arrival (PTA) to Port Authority of destination You can send Planned Time of Arrival to Port Authority. Open Ports tab, you can see monitored route in this tab. Check that destination is correct in Port column. Select desired WPT and click Send button. You will receive from destination port Recommended Time of Arrival, which you can enter to your voyage plan. 24

25 8. ROUTE FROM SERVICE PROVIDER 8.1 How to receive route from service provider Routes are received as rtz type in INBOX tab. If you want to move a route to ECDIS, you click Send to ECDIS button. You can see route on ECDIS display. You can Check Route, Reject it or Save for Later Use. If you select or Save for Later Use route is available for planning and monitoring. 25

26 8.2 How to connect routes together It is possible that you want to connect two routes in one route. That can happen when you connect open sea voyage to pilot route to port. 1. Select route in Plan mode 2. Click Route Bank button 26

27 3. Select WPTs Insert from field Select place where to insert WPTs in Import to field. 4. Click OK button to complete WPTs import. 27
